It appears the Winnipeg Goldeyes enjoy hitting in Texas.
Mallory Pugh Soccer Jersey . The Goldeyes
scored in the first four innings of the game and continued their hot start on
Monday night with an 11-5 victory over the Amarillo Sox. Winnipegs offence
knocked out 20 hits in the contest, the most by the team since July 21 of last
year against Sioux Falls and improved their record on the season to 4-0. The
Goldeyes jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two innings and expanded the lead in the
third. Winnipegs first six batters of the inning reached base with Ryan Scoma,
Luis Alen, and Nate Samson hammering out consecutive RBI base hits to put the
Goldeyes up 6-0. “When you get ahead and play ahead, it makes it a lot easier on
your pitching and defense,” said Goldeyes pitching coach Jamie Vermilyea on the
TSN 1290 post-game show. Amarillo cut into the lead in their half of the third
when David Peralta took a Pete Gehle offering over the wall in right field for a
two-run homer. The Goldeyes answered right back in the fourth on a two-out RBI
from Scoma that chased Sox starter Ryan Mitchell from the ball game. The Sox
kept chipping away, scoring again in the fourth and twice in the fifth on an
error and a RBI groundout from Jason Martin to make it 7-5. But it would be as
close as the Goldeyes would allow them to get. After adding one more in the
sixth, Winnipeg batted around in the ninth and sent three across the plate,
leading to the eventual 11-5 final. Gehle picked up the win in his first start
of the season. He went five and a third innings, giving up three earned runs
while striking out three. Four Goldeyes relievers shut the door on Amarillo,
allowing only one hit after Gehle left the game. Nick Liles went four-for-six at
plate with a pair of RBIs and two stolen bases, while Alen went three-for-five
with two RBIs. They were two of the eight Goldeyes hitters to record multi-hit
games. Mitchell picked up the loss for Amarillo. He lasted three and two-thirds
innings, getting tagged for 11 hits and five earned runs. He walked three and
struck out three. Former Goldeye outfielder and Sox manager Bobby Brown was
ejected in the ninth for arguing a third strike call. Amarillo committed four
errors. The Goldeyes and Sox meet again Tuesday night for a 7:05 p.m. start. The
action starts with the pre-game show at 6:30 p.m. with Paul Edmonds on TSN 1290.
