SAN JOSE, Calif.
Danny Mwanga Jersey . -- Jacksonville Jaguars
running back Maurice Jones-Drews left foot is still hurting. His humour appears
to be just fine. Jones-Drew was held out of practice as a precaution on
Wednesday after his foot swelled up in the morning, three days after he suffered
a strained tendon while being tackled by Oakland Raiders safety Charles Woodson
in the first half of Jacksonvilles 19-9 loss. The veteran running back talked
excitedly about visiting family and friends as the Jaguars stay in Northern
California in preparation for Sundays game in Seattle. He grew up in Oakland and
his mother still lives in the area. But Jones-Drew also had some choice words
for Tracy McGrady after the former NBA star went on Twitter and said the winless
Jaguars should offer him a tryout at quarterback or wide receiver. "Jacksonville
(at)jaguars need to bring me on in for a tryout at QB or receiver!" McGrady
tweeted on Monday. Speaking with reporters at San Jose States Spartan Stadium
where the Jaguars are practicing, Jones-Drew said McGrady should follow through
and try out for the team. "Youre more than welcome to come and sign a waiver and
come to a live practice and see how it works out for you if its that easy,"
Jones-Drew said. Asked how many practices McGrady could make it through,
Jones-Drew smiled. "You never know," Jones-Drew said. "He might be tougher than
what most people think." Jones-Drews own health is in question this week. He had
taken a pitch and cut up the field when Woodson made a flying tackle after
diving over Jacksonville left tackle Eugene Monroe midway through the second
quarter last Sunday. Woodson appeared to grab Jones-Drew around his neck to make
the tackle but no penalty was called. "Not a dirty play," said Jones-Drew, who
limped off the field after the play and didnt return. "It was a great play. For
a guy at his age to kind of sell out to do that .... I thought it was a
horse-collar but he made a phenomenal play." Jones-Drew said his foot got stuck
in the turf. The Jaguars had been hopeful of getting Jones-Drew on the field but
pushed back plans to have him practice Wednesday after he woke up and noticed
swelling in his injured foot. Neither he nor coach Gus Bradley believe its a
significant setback, however. "The swellings come back down," Jones-Drew said.
"Its still a little there but I should be back ready to go by (Thursday)."
Bradley agreed. "They felt like it was doing pretty good and then he had some
swelling that occurred," Bradley said. "I know he feels better about it today
than he did yesterday, so well just see how it goes." Injured quarterback Blaine
Gabbert is also making slow progress. Gabbert did some light throwing before
practice but remains a longshot to play in Seattle. Chad Henne, who started in
place of Gabbert against Oakland last week, expects the crowd noise to be a
factor in Seattle. To help, Bradley had music piped into Wednesdays practice.
"At times (the music) can be just as loud but you can never know what youre
getting into unless its third down or its a key play in the game," Henne said.
"We just have to adjust to it and do the best we can." Notes: Tight end Marcedes
Lewis (calf), cornerback Alan Ball (groin) and wide receiver Mike Brown (back)
were held out of practice. ... Offensive linemen Uche Nwaneri (knee) and Will
Rackley (knee), wide receivers Ace Sanders (ribs) and Stephen Burton (hip),
linebacker J.T. Thomas (hamstring), defensive tackle Roy Miller (knee) were
limited. ... Defensive end Jason Babin and centre Brad Meester were given the
day off.

Vista, Florida, Boras called the former home of the Expos a "tremendous
environment" for baseball.NEW YORK -- The result of the New York Islanders
preseason game at the Barclays Center on Saturday night was secondary to the
initial impression the arena left on the team and its fans. "It was great," New
York coach Jack Capuano said after the Islanders lost 3-0 to the New Jersey
Devils in the first NHL game played in the Barclays Center. Cory Schneider made
26 saves, Jacob Josefson scored the first NHL goal in Barclays Center history at
10:14 of the first period, and Patrik Elias and Steve Bernier added goals for
New Jersey. Evgeni Nabokov made 22 saves for New York. The first NHL game played
in Brooklyn drew a crowd of 14,689. Barclays Center holds 15,813 for hockey,
although Barclays Center CEO Brett Yormark envisions adding "100-300" seats as
part of a "West End Club." Barclays seats 17,732 for college basketball and the
NBAs Brooklyn Nets, and holds 19,000 for concerts. "When you sell over 13,000
for a preseason game, were thrilled," Yormark said. "We know we can sell hockey
in Brooklyn. Twenty-six per cent of (the) ticket buyers are from Brooklyn." The
Islanders will officially move into $1 billion arena before the 2015-16 season.
Saturday nights exhibition game was a trial run to introduce the year-old
building to fans, and Yormark said the response he received was overwhelmingly
positive. "I walked every area of the building," he said. "I was stopped (by
fans who said), Brett, we love the building. Brett, we love the building."
Yormarks words were echoed by Islanders fans used to the 41-year-oldd Nassau
Coliseum.
Danny Mwanga Orlando City SC Jersey. "Great,
beautiful building," said Frank Smarra, a self-proclaimed lifelong Islanders fan
from Astoria, Queens. "(It is) clean, roomy. (It) generates a lot of excitement.
"(Its) a whole new slate for the organization. I think things are finally
falling into place." Smarra said the "45-minute" subway ride from Queens to
Brooklyn was easy compared to driving and paying for parking at Nassau Coliseum.
One of the Barclays selling points is its convenience, as 11 New York City bus
and subway lines stop there, as does the Long Island Rail Road. When he spoke
with reporters following the Islanders practice session at Barclays on Sept. 12,
team owner Charles Wang reiterated that his team has a lease at the Nassau
Coliseum for the next two seasons, but did not reject the notion of his team
playing regular-season games in Brooklyn next year. While acknowledging he had
to have discussions with team and building officials, Yormark did not dismiss
the idea of Barclays playing host to regular-season games next season. "I have
to sit with Charles (and) Bruce Ratner after (the game) tonight," Yormark said.
"(But the) building is ready to be a host NHL venue." New York defenceman Travis
Hamonic agreed. "But this obviously is going to be our home for a long time. So
in my opinion the more games we play here (will be) awesome," Hamonic said.
"Were looking forward to it. Its a great building, an unreal atmosphere and a
great spot. So were going to be here for years to come."
