LOUISVILLE, Ky. Bobby Clarke Jersey . -- This was one dominant performance, and Teddy Bridgewater and No. 7 Louisville think they can perform even better. Its definitely a nice problem to have heading into conference action. Bridgewater threw four touchdown passes and Louisvilles defence allowed a school-record 30 yards during a 72-0 wipeout of Florida International on Saturday. It was the highest scoring game for the Cardinals (4-0) since a 73-10 victory over Murray State in 2007. They matched the schools fifth-largest margin of victory while recording their first shutout since a 26-0 win over Connecticut in 2010. Asked afterward if the Cardinals victory was the most complete effort he has seen, Bridgewater said: "As a team, yes. But we feel we have a little way to go and continue to get better each and every day. "Well take this win and build off that." The margin might have been even worse if not for a clock issue in the second half. Gerald Austin, the co-ordinator of officials for Conference USA, acknowledged in a statement that the clock was allowed to run at times when it should have been stopped. FIU coach Ron Turner "made a comment to one of the officials that, given the amount of injuries and the limited numbers of players he had available, he wanted to run the ball in the second half," Austin said in a release. "One official misinterpreted that comment. "After reviewing the tape there were five times that the clock should have been stopped and it did not. Four times were on first down and one play where the runner went out of bounds, based on a quick review of the video." Austin and Turner both said the coach never requested a running clock. "I did notice it was going quicker," Turner said. "First of all, I dont have the authority to request it. I wish I had the authority. Im not saying I wouldnt have, you know, but I did not request it." Bridgewater hit DeVante Parker for two TD passes and Gerald Christian and Eli Rogers for one apiece before Will Gardner came on and passed to Michaelee Harris for another score in the fourth quarter. Dominique Brown, Senorise Perry, Michael Dyer and Brandon Radcliff rushed for TDs. Charles Gaines returned the second-half kickoff 93 yards for a touchdown, and recovered a muffed punt to set up Bridgewaters second TD pass in the second quarter. Meanwhile, Louisvilles defence didnt allow a first down until early in the second quarter and just two overall, also a program record. FIU converted just 1 of 13 third-down chances. Louisville coach Charlie Strong believes that kind of effort will eventually result in perfection. "We try to reach that level and were going to get there," Strong said. "The way you practice, you feel like that (being perfect). ... I tell players all the time just try to give your best, thats all were looking for each and every down." Bridgewater had 212 yards on 17-of-22 passing, part of Louisvilles 464-yard effort against winless FIU (0-4). It was another efficient performance for the junior quarterback. A week after tossing just one touchdown pass against in-state rival Kentucky, Bridgewater threw for three scores by halftime and added another in the third quarter. That got the Cardinals rolling toward the offensive performance they wanted in their final game before travelling to Temple for their American Athletic Conference opener on Oct. 5. "It was just a great overall performance in all three phases of the game," Bridgewater said. "We just went out today and competed and played a complete game." It was a much different outcome than the previous two games in the series. The schools had split two prior meetings, with each earning seven-point road wins. Louisville won 28-21 in Miami last year. The Cardinals were 42-point favourites for this one, with overwhelming advantages in every statistical category. And it went as expected. Four of Louisvilles eight first-half possessions began at midfield or in Panthers territory. The Cardinals converted three of those chances into a 17-0 lead. Bridgewater hit Parker for a 3-yard touchdown pass that was initially ruled incomplete. The call was reversed after a video review showed the receiver got his right foot down in the end zone while making his second acrobatic TD catch in as many weeks. John Wallace added a 26-yard field goal and Perry had a 26-yard run off left tackle to keep the roll going. It was just more of the same as the game wore on. Browns 77-yard run set up his 1-yard TD dive in the second quarter and Bridgewater completed four passes for 68 yards on another scoring drive, connecting with Parker for 6 yards for his third TD. Another nightmarish game for FIU continued into the third quarter, with Gaines returned the second-half kickoff for another touchdown. Louisville has 23 players from South Florida, including Bridgewater, so the Panthers were more than familiar with the Cardinals personnel. But they lacked the talent to keep up with Louisville, which led 38-0 at the break. "Nothing will surprise me with this team," Turner said of Louisville. "Theyre a great football team all the way around. There are no weak areas. Theyre very well coached, they play hard and they have exceptional athletes." Brian Propp Flyers Jersey . Self was acquired from the Buffalo Bandits in a trade for Alex Hill midway through last season, and made his debut in Rochester on March 16, 2013.With the NBA season just getting underway, we asked TSN hoops experts Jack Armstrong, Josh Lewenberg and Duane Watson a few burning questions about the year ahead. Today we asked: with so many new Canadian players entering the NBA and Andrew Wiggins on the way, where is Canada as a basketball nation and what are the next steps for the National team? Jacks take: It is really cool to watch the emergence of the sport of Basketball across Canada. Ive seen it happen on two different levels over the past 25+ years, first as an NCAA Division 1 Coach at Niagara for 10 Years and then for the past 15+ as a broadcaster in Canada. The Best is yet to come. The exposure to the sport is top-shelf and kids are getting better instruction and coaching than theyve ever had. The key will be the loyalty of the Canadian players to play for their country and succeed at the international level. There are lots of expectations now and with that comes the pressure. A strong fundamental base and demands on playing the game as a team will be paramount. There are Lots of talented young players emerging on the scene at the same time which is great yet a concern as well. These guys need to know how to sacrifice for the greater good and not allow the narrow-minded selfishness of youth to overtake whats good for the team. Who will be the winning veteran examples for them? Talent only gets you so far. Team play, toughness, role definition, maturity, selflessness and smarts will be the factors that have to become more and more evident each day. The potential is there -- now there must be a willingness to lay it all on the line and represent your nation with no strings attached and do it the right way for the right reasons. Im fascinated to see how it will all work out. Watsons take: The talent has already established itself, now its a matter of nurturing and developing it. Canada is a top five basketball country in terms of talent, however the mens global ranking at 25th in the world, by FIBA isnt far off. They havent been able to compete and win as a country, failing to qualify for the World Cup at the FIBA Americas this summer. Not to say they wont, but this "golden era" exists more on the NBA court than the international one. Excluding tthe US, Canada boasts the second most players in the league after France. Mark Streit Flyers Jersey. . With the season tipping off on Tuesday night, Cory Joseph (Spurs), Kelly Olynyk (Celtics), Joel Anthony (Heat), Tristan Thompson (Cavaliers), Steve Nash (Lakers), Robert Sacre (Lakers), Andrew Nicholson (Magic), and No. 1 draft pick Anthony Bennett (Cavaliers) were all on NBA rosters. Thats an unprecedented number of Canadians in the league. The Canadian team needs to develop chemistry, the bulk of the players are not only new to the program, but most are new to international basketball. Furthermore, they havent really played together, and while it may not happen in Rio at the Olympics, the players are committed and the program is definitely headed in the right direction. On the NBA court, the Canadian invasion will continue and its quite likely a Canadian will be playing in the All-Star Game in Toronto in 2016. Lewenbergs take: "This really is the golden age of Canadian basketball," Steve Nash famously proclaimed just as the Senior Mens National Team got set to embark on its first test in Venezuela this summer. Despite feelings of renewed optimism and legitimate signs of positive growth in the tournament, the FIBA Americas ended in familiar disappointment for Canada. However, as Nash and company have reminded us, this is just the beginning. It goes without saying now, because it has been said so many times in recent months, Canada is further along as a basketball nation than it has ever been. Entering his third year in the NBA, Tristan Thompson has exceeded all expectations with the Cavs, Cory Joseph cracked the playoff rotation in San Antonio last spring and Andrew Nicholson is poised for a breakout sophomore season with the Magic. Then there are Anthony Bennett, Kelly Olynyk and Andrew Wiggins who have played in zero NBA games and have yet to suit up for the Canadian senior team. And thats not to mention the rest of the countrys collegiate talent and young players turning heads north of the border every day. Nash was wrong, or exaggerating for effect. This isnt the golden age of Canadian basketball, not yet. But its coming and its not far off.
