BEREA, Ohio -- Brandon Weeden showered and dressed alone in one corner of
Clevelands locker room.
Nike Air Jordan Pas Cher . A day after his
brutal performance in Green Bay, he was still a starting quarterback. Barely.
And a shaky one at that. Weedens job has never been more instable after Browns
coach Rob Chudzinski said Monday that hes considering a change at quarterback
and could start backup Jason Campbell this week against the unbeaten Kansas City
Chiefs. Chudzinski planned to discuss a possible switch with his staff, and
didnt seem to be leaning in either direction. "Well basically put the guys at
all positions wholl give us the best opportunity to win," Chudzinski said.
Weedens second straight poor outing has Cleveland fans clamouring for a change,
but Chudzinski noted there are other problems -- penalties, defensive breakdowns
and dropped passes among them -- to fix or the Browns (3-4) will be in danger of
letting a once promising season slip away. Making his fourth start this season,
Weeden completed just 17 of 42 passes for 149 yards with a touchdown and
interception against the Packers. He made some common mistakes: locking on to
receivers, forcing passes into tight coverage and trying another ill-advised
underhanded flip in the fourth quarter. It wasnt pretty, but unlike last week,
when Chudzinski effusively supported Weeden following a loss at home to Detroit,
the coach was more noncommittal. "Its not all Brandon and thats the first thing
you have to look at as you look at the tape and see," Chudzinski said. "Theres
some execution errors and issues with other guys. Brandon needs to play better,
but we all need to play better around him. Well go through that process, talking
about that, and come up with the plan that gives us the best chance to win."
Weeden only returned to the starting lineup two weeks ago after Brian Hoyer, who
led the Browns to wins over Minnesota and Cincinnati, suffered a season-ending
knee injury on Oct. 3 against Buffalo. Weeden came off the bench and rallied the
Browns to a victory over the Bills, and the 30-year-old seemed to finally have
some momentum in his second NFL season. But hes lost it all in the past two
games, and linebacker DQwell Jackson believes Weeden has been shaken by the
pressure. "Id be lying if I said he wasnt," Jackson said. "Im pretty sure he is.
You try to block out the noise and cant avoid it. It comes with the territory.
It comes with being in this league. Its a big-boy league. Youve got to take the
good with the bad. People are going to love him when he plays well and people
are going to try to run him out of Cleveland if he doesnt. "And that goes for
all of us. It comes with the territory, especially playing in Cleveland." An
hour after Chudzinskis news conference, a national report said the Browns will
stick with Weeden. However, a team spokesman said "the truth" was that
Chudzinski had not yet decided on his quarterback situation. Despite Weedens
ragged play, Chudzinski still feels the second-year QB has the backing of his
teammates, who understand that they all need to play better. "I think that our
guys are looking at themselves, and we have plenty of places and plenty of
opportunity to get better," he said. "By no means is it one guy, and it
certainly wasnt a perfect game by anybody. Those guys know and I can guarantee
that were going to put the best guys out there and the guys that give us the
best chance to win. Thats what well always do." Weeden does have the support of
several teammates. Tight end Jordan Cameron said hell abide by whatever decision
is made, but that he trusts Weeden. "I have confidence in Brandon, 100 per cent
confidence," he said. "Hes a tough guy. Hell hang in there, and whoever they
pick will be ready to play. I just have confidence in whoever they choose and Im
backing whatever their decision is."

Alex Ovechkins absence added to the Washington Capitals offensive woes and the
Ottawa Senators were only too glad to take advantage. Kyle Turris and
Jason Spezza scored, Craig Anderson made 34 saves and the Senators beat the
Capitals 2-0 Tuesday night to hand Washington its sixth straight loss. With NHL
scoring leader Ovechkin out with an unspecified lower-body injury, Washington
failed to convert on five power plays. During their six-game skid, the Capitals
have scored just seven goals, three of them by Ovechkin. "Yeah, hes absolutely a
dangerous goal scorer, leading our team and leading the league in goals,"
Washingtons Troy Brouwer said. "Wed love to have him out there, but we dont have
him right now. Even when he was in the lineup the last few games we still havent
been scoring goals." In Ovechkins absence, some of Washingtons other offensive
threats were silent. Nicklas Backstrom and Mikhail Grabovski had one shot each.
Defenceman John Carlson whiffed on a promising slap shot, fired high on another
and was stymied by Anderson on a breakaway. "Their goalie played well, but we
had a lot of guys with some really good looks, good chances," Washington coach
Adam Oates said. "We have to score some goals. I would say the chances were good
chances tonight, and we had a lot of them. It is a matter of finishing." It was
the 12th loss in the last 15 games for the Capitals, while Ottawa improved to
7-1-2 in its last 10 games to vault Washington in the Eastern Conference
standings. Turris scored his 15th of the year with just over 7 minutes left in
the second period when he converted on a rush down the right side. Spezza scored
his 13th goal on a power play midway through the third period, rifling a wrist
shot from the left wing that went just inside the near post and past Caapitals
goalie Braden Holtby, who finished with 24 saves in first start since Jan.

tried to rally, the Capitals didnt get their customary boost from their fans.
The Verizon Center, which regularly sells out, was less than half full because
of a snowstorm that closed schools and shut down the government Tuesday. "Its a
building where they are notorious for coming back and getting momentum," Spezza
said. "So to get the two-goal lead lets us play a little different style and
with a little more confidence. I thought we played better with the lead tonight
in general." It was the 32-year-old Andersons third shutout this year and 25th
in his career. He was at his best in the third period when he sprawled for a
save to help the Senators kill a penalty and later kicked away a drive by
Marcus Johansson. "We played really well for 60 minutes," Anderson said. "From
the start of the game to the end of the game we did things we were supposed to
do." Washingtons frustration appeared to spill over late in the game when
Grabovski received a 10-minute misconduct penalty during a tussle with
Zack Smith. "I want the guys to compete and be frustrated," Oates said. "But you
cant live in the penalty box. Were not doing a good enough job killing
penalties. So that doesnt make sense, either. But I want them to fight for
everything we can." NOTES: The Capitals recalled Nate Schmidt to fortify the
defence after Steve Oleksy was sent to Hershey and John Erskine sustained an
upper-body injury. Schmidt, 22, opened the year in Washington, totalling six
points in 28 games. ... The move came a day after Washington sent goalie
Philipp Grubauer back to Hershey. The rookie had been pulled from his previous
two starts. ... The Capitals play their next five games on the road.
