NAPLES, Fla. -- Defending champion Bernhard Langer shot an 8-under 64 on Friday to take a one-stroke lead after the first round of the ACE Group Classic. After making a slight adjustment in his putting stance, Langer birdied three of his first holes in his bogey-free round on TwinEagles Talon Course. "Basically, Im standing farther away," Langer said. "Thats really all that is. It just changes my stroke a little bit. Ive messed around with that in the past, standing closer, standing farther away, just get a better release." The 56-year-old German star won the 2011 tournament and finished second behind Kenny Perry in 2012. Langer won the season-opening event in Hawaii last month for his 19th Champions Tour title. "Were constantly trying to improve. Every golfer, you dont want to stand still because to stand still is like getting worse," Langer said. "Youre constantly trying for that little edge on somebody else or, you know, we also know if we play perfect golf we would hit 18 fairways, 18 greens and hit 18 putts. Nobodys ever done that and nobody will ever do it, but we want to get there as close as possible." Bob Tway was second. He birdied his last three holes, making a 60-foot putt on No. 8. "I didnt hit a very good tee shot so I was a long way back," Tway said. "Just playing into the wind, hit a long iron in there and made that long putt." Tway opened with a 65 last year, then shot 79 in the second round. "You know, its funny how if you play well it suits your game and if you dont play well it doesnt suit your game," Tway said. "I dont know else to put that." Olin Browne opened with a 66, and Duffy Waldorf and Kirk Triplett shot 67. Waldorf is coming off a playoff loss to Michael Allen on Sunday in Boca Raton in the Allianz Championship. Allen had a 68. Langer has finished in the top 10 in 37 of his last 46 events going back to 2012. What makes it more remarkable is that he missed most of 2011 with a left thumb injury. "I had many, many years in my career where I was really consistent," Langer said. "Theres a lot of competition out here. I dont even play every tournament. Theres guys that play more than I do so they have more opportunities to make more money." Cheap Jerseys China . Tomas Berdych and Radek Stepanek defeated Nenad Zimonjic and Ilija Bozoljac 6-2, 6-4, 7-6 (4) on the indoor hard-court at Belgrade Arena. The victory improved the Czech pairs impressive cup doubles record to 14-1. Berdych plays Novak Djokovic, on a 23-match winning run, in the first reverse singles on Sunday, and the final could be decided when Stepanek likely meets cup rookie Dusan Lajovic in the final rubber. "I am in the best possible position after Saturday," said Berdych, who has beaten Djokovic only twice in 16 encounters, and never on a hard court. "I have nothing to lose. I am going to go there and fight for each point." Serbia captain Bogdan Obradovic said Zimonjic and Bozoljac gave their best, but lost against a better pair. "But we were in similar situations before," Obradovic said. Serbia came from 2-1 down in the 2010 cup final against France, and in this years semifinals against Canada. But both heroes of those ties arent playing. Viktor Troicki, who clinched Serbias only cup title in 2010, is serviing a doping ban, and Janko Tipsarevic, who secured the win over Canada, is sidelined by a heel injury.dddddddddddd Obradovic said he was not sure if Lajovic, who lost against Berdych in straight sets on Friday, would play if theres a fifth rubber. On Saturday, the Czechs broke Zimonjic at the start of the first two sets. Zimonjic netted an easy volley in the second set to give the Czechs a commanding two-set lead. Stepanek played almost faultlessly. He saved the only break point for the Serbs at 2-3 in the third set with a neat drop shot. In the third-set tiebraker, Stepanek first lost his serve, but then Zimonjic and Bozoljac both suffered mini-breaks. Stepanek won the match with an ace. "Today, it worked out really well. We fit perfectly. Honestly," Stepanek said. "It was one of the best matches we played. But, we have to stay humble, focused and concentrated. "If it comes down to the fifth match, I will be ready to fight to the last point." Zimonjic said "they were better in every aspect of the game." "We had a little chance in the third set, but that was the only one. They were controlling the match from the beginning to the end." TORONTO – It was as though hed run into a wall.  Nazem Kadri bounced off the 255-pound frame of Zdeno Chara with an incredible thud, making little more than a scratch on the Bruins captain. "Hes a pretty solid dude," Kadri laughed a day later. "Hes not easy to knock off the puck." With a good deal of sizzle and swagger, the 22-year-old emerged as a star for the Leafs in the first three months of the regular season, but entering the new terrain of postseason hockey he is still, as one might expect, trying to find his footing. Kadri has registered just a single point in three games against Boston, the finders fee on Phil Kessels game-winning goal in an electric game 2 victory at TD Garden. Whats been most apparent early in these playoffs as it pertains to the second-year pivot is the balancing act he is trying to wade; that is to decipher the right time and place to strike with his array of skills versus the lingering danger of costing his team a goal or even a game with a turnover. "Its just time and a place," he said. "Time and a place. Its what its all about. When youve got some space youve got to be able to do what players like me do and try and generate some scoring chances. At the same time if the safe play is there and a high-risk play is there its most likely youre going to be taking the safe one in the playoffs." Not that the dangerous forays havent happened. There was the "curl-and-drag" he attempted 10 feet inside the opposition blue-line with the Leafs up 3-1 in that aforementioned victory. "That doesnt sit very well with a coach and he gets to know that," Leafs coach Randy Carlyle noted a day later. "That situation, thats uncalled for. And its not scolding him, its the reality of it, we just tell him: You continue to do that youre not going to play." While perhaps constricting for a player of his talents, Kadri is learning, as he did in the American League under the tutelage of Marlies coach Dallas Eakins, to carefully select a time and place to flash his skills, consequently scoping out "danger" and the need to make a "safe play". "Just to wait for your opportunities," he relayed of what hed learned from the postseason so far. "You just cant really force plays … youve just to got to stay with it and be ready to capitalize on that one or two or three chances you get." Of the playoffs generally he expounded upon the strategic adjustments hes had to undertake. "Its been difficult," said Kadri, who has played with Kessel at various points in the past two games. "Teams really do tighten up in the playoffs and really try and give you nothing. Thats why I was saying earlier its important to stay patient and [make] sure that youre not trying to force play to get yourself into the game, youve got to find other ways to do so." Agitation, as in the Chara attempt, is one such avenue. "I understand I probably wont knock him down, but sometimes those hits that seem harmless are the ones that end up doing the most damage," he noted. An offensive dynamo in the first three months of the regular season, Kadri totaled 17 goals and 39 points, along with a 20 per cent shooting percentage in 39 games. But in the month of April his production stalled to the tune of just one goal, five points and a shooting percentage of 4.5 per cent. His quiet start to the postseason has in some ways been a carryover. Like many of his teammates, Kadri too has struggled in the faceoff dot, 9-22 (41 per cent) for the series, including a 3-12 outing in game 3. Generating offence against the Bruins has been predictably challenging for the Leafs with a massive game 4 looming at the Air Canada Centre on Wednesday night, just three even-strength goals in the series, a potent showing from a sometimes uncoordinated power-play (four goals) helping the cause immensely. Under Carlyles microscope following practice Tuesday was the need to minimize turnovers, overload the crease of Tuukka Rask with havoc and achieve better execution with the aforementioned man advantage. Kadri will look to be part of the solution. "Every single game it gets harder and harder," he concluded. "Its not like its going to get easier from here on out."  Paul Martin Jersey . Catch all the action on TSN2 at 11pm et/8pm pt. You can see all the action on TSN2 beginning with Raptors Game Day at 6:30pm et/3:30pm pt. Fans can also listen to the action on TSN Radio 1050 Toronto. The Raptors were sent to a loss Friday night when they fell in Indianapolis to the undefeated Pacers, 91-84. It was the third loss in a row for the Raps, who have yet to score 100 points in a game. Toronto hung tough with the leagues best team, but the second and third quarters were a disaster. During that 24-minute stretch, the Pacers outscored the Raptors, 50-27. Toronto finished strong to make it a game, but none the less, it was a third consecutive defeat. "We have to be able to put together a full game," said forward Rudy Gay. "There are spurts when we play as good as any team in the league. But we let up just a little bit and they were able to come back and take advantage of that." Gay scored a game-high 30 points, while Amir Johnson had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Kyle Lowry also netted 12 for the Raptors, as DeMar DeRozan only managed six points oon a woeful 2-for-15 shooting night.dddddddddddd The Raptors only shot 39.5 percent from the field against Indiana, which is one of the NBAs best defensive units. The Utah Jazz will try to get their elusive first victory as they wrap up a four-game road trip. The Jazz fell to 0-6 on Friday night in Chicago as the Bulls thumped them, 97-73. The Jazz were expected to struggle this season as they decided to go with a youth movement. Although, the franchise hasnt started 0-6 since an 0-11 beginning to its inaugural campaign in New Orleans. The Jazz moved to Salt Lake City in 1979-80. "We cant feel sorry for ourselves, we just got to keep fighting," Jazz head coach Tyrone Corbin said. Utah fell behind by 12 after the first quarter and never really made it close Friday. The Jazz were 22 down after three and failed to score 20 points in three of four quarters. Gordon Hayward paced Utah with 15 points. Derrick Favors and Alec Burks scored 10 points apiece. Rookie big man Rudy Gobert pulled down 12 rebounds in 15:38 of action. The Jazz won both of last seasons matchups, including a triple-overtime thriller in Toronto. Utah is 14-1 in its last 15 against the Raptors and 9-2 in Toronto. MELBOURNE, Australia -- On current form and on a very familiar golf course, the two top-ranked players at the World Cup -- Adam Scott and Matt Kuchar -- are heavy favourites for individual honours when play begins Thursday at Royal Melbourne. No. 2-ranked Scott has won two tournaments in a row -- the Australian PGA and the Australian Masters, which was held last week at Royal Melbourne. Seventh-ranked Kuchar led by two strokes late in the final round of the Masters before a double-bogey on 18 enabled Scott to successfully defend his title. Kuchar finished second. "He has been in such good form," Kuchar said of Scott on Wednesday. "To at least give him a run it was awfully good. I stood five back going into Sunday. Unfortunately I got a bad break on 18 and thats part of golf." The Australians, with Scotts teammate Jason Day at No. 18, are the highest-ranked team this week and will have the benefit of local crowds. "Its an interesting week," Scott said Wednesday. "Were playing together as a team but we still want to beat each other." Added Day: "I dont know whether to love him or not if he beats me." Kuchar and his teammate, Kevin Streelman, will attempt to successfully defend for the Americans the title that Kuchar and Gary Woodland won in 2011. The differences between the tournament, format-wise, that Kuchar and Woodland won in 2011 is about as far as the distance between Royal Melbourne and Haiku, China, where the Americans won. Then, it was a team event in keeping with the near 60-year history of the tournament. Two days of four-ball competition, two days of foursomes. This time, to prepare for golfs return to the Olympics and the format that will be used in Rio, its basically an individual stroke-play event. The financial emphasis is on the individual portion of the tournament -- $7 million in prize money to be divided among the 60-man field, including $1.2 to the winner. And just $1 million allocated for the teams event, with money only going to the top three teams. Kuchar said the change doesnt bother him. "I know the format is different but the golf is the same," Kuchar said. "Its much more of an individual event ... but there is a team component and I think we have got as good a shot as anybody." Earlier, U.S. PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem defended the move away from the team-only concept at a media conference Wednesday at Royal Melbourne. "I think it is way too soon to conclude that the team portion of the Cup is lost," Finchem said. "We havent played yet so lets see how that plays out and then we will see. We feel like the tournament is more marketable. We think that it has a better chance of fulfilling its mission which is to create more interest in the game in unique ways." "But we will see. If we go down this road and it doesnt work, we will adjust, but we are going to give this every chance to work." The system being used to determine the entries at the Word Cup -- rankings and number of players eligible from each country based on those rankings, will be used at Rio in 2016. The other differences are that there will be no team competition at the Olympics, and there, golfers from England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland who are playing as separate countries at the World Cup, will play as Britain. Also, at the World Cup, Ireland and Northern Ireland play as one team. So this week, Northern Irelands Graeme McDowell and Irelands Shane Lowry will play together. McDowell says Scott is unquestionably the favourite this week. "From Scottys point of view, he is just one of those guys you play with and you think to yourself Why does this guy not win every week?" McDowell said Wednesday. "Hes that impressive." There are 26 teams taking part and eight individual golfers, including Fijis Vijay Singh, who finished third at the Australian Masters. Infantes grounder deflected off the glove of reliever Jacob Petricka (1-1) with one out, and the Tigers spilled onto the field with Comerica Park in a frenzy. Detroit plays its final scheduled home game of the year Sunday and can clinch a third straight AL Central title with a win and a Cleveland loss. Trailing 6-0 in the ninth, the Tigers scored five runs before the first out. Pinch-hitter Andy Dirks hit a three-run homer to pull Detroit within one. Al Alburquerque (4-3) got the win. The Tigers won after trailing by six in the ninth for the first time since Aug. 22, 1947, according to STATS. They beat the Washington Senators 7-6 that day. Chicagos Chris Sale was working on a shutout when he was pulled in the eighth after 97 pitches. Nate Jones got out of that inning and after the White Sox added three runs in the top of the ninth, he came back to the mound with a 6-0 lead. Detroit wasted no time turning a previously subdued night at the ballpark into a memorable one. Torii Hunter led off with a triple and scored on Miguel Cabreras single. After a single by Prince Fielder, Victor Martinez added an RBI double. The key hit came from Dirks, who followed Martinez with a homer that made it 6-5. Chicago closer Addison Reed, who didnt appear to have had much time to warm up,, came on and immediately walked Infante, who moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Ramon Santiago.dddddddddddd Pinch-hitter Alex Avila and Austin Jackson both drew walks to load the bases for Hunter, whose sacrifice fly tied it. Cabrera walked to load the bases again, but Donnie Veal came on and got Prince Fielder to ground out to keep the game tied. Alburquerque threw two scoreless innings, and Detroit scored the winning run without hitting the ball out of the infield. Don Kelly walked and went to second on Fielders groundout. After an intentional walk to Martinez, Dirks walked to load the bases. Infantes grounder might have been a double play ball, but Petricka tried to field it, and when it bounced off his glove, the White Sox had no play. Sale allowed four hits and a walk. He struck out seven. Detroit starter Rick Porcello allowed two runs and six hits in 6 2-3 innings. He struck out nine. The White Sox scored two runs in the seventh and one in the eighth before a three-run ninth appeared to have put the game out of reach. Bryan Anderson hit a two-run double in the ninth. NOTES: Chicago acquired LHP Frank De Los Santos from Tampa Bay for a player to be named or cash. He will not be added to the major league roster. ... Detroit LF Matt Tuiasosopo made an outstanding diving catch for the third out in the seventh, preventing the White Sox from scoring more that inning. ... After dropping their final six games of December, the Wild opened the new calendar year with four consecutive wins. Following a loss to Colorado on Saturday, Minnesota rebounded the following night to blank Nashville 4-0, but then had the tables turned on them Tuesday. Beginning their three-game stay at home, the Wild were shut out 3-0 by the Ottawa Senators behind Robin Lehners 27 saves. Darcy Kuemper made 23 saves versus the Predators to record his first NHL shutout in his sixth career start, but yielded all three goals on 32 shots faced against the Senators. "Execution just wasnt really there all night long," Minnesota head coach Mike Yeo admitted. "We werent really moving our feet, werent attacking, werent crisp with our passing." Minnesota was blanked for just the third time this season and for the first time at home. If past history is a factor, Yeo may go with Niklas Backstrom in net tonight. The 35-year-old Finn is an outstanding 25-4-1 with a 1.91 goals against average and four shutouts in 32 career starts versus the Oilers. The Wild have won 13 of their last 16 versus the Oilers, though Edmonton did notch a 6-1 victory in Minnesota to conclude last seasons series on April 26. It was just the Oilers second victory in their past 21 in Minnesota. Edmonton pulled off a pair of trades on Wednesday, both involving goaltenders. The Oilers first sent netminder Devan Dubnyk to the Nashville Predators in exchange for forward Matt Hendricks, then shipped a 2014 third-round pick to the Los Angeles Kings for goalie Ben Scrivens. Dubnyk struggled to an .894 save percentage and 3.36 GAA in 32 games for the Oilers this season, incluuding 29 starts.dddddddddddd He also began to lose playing time when Ilya Bryzgalov was signed in November. "Its been an unfortunate season and the team wanted to go in a different direction," Dubnyk said. Scrivens posted a .931 save percentage and 1.97 GAA in 19 games for the Kings this season, while the veteran Hendricks had two goals and four points in 44 games with the Predators. "It gives us an opportunity to bring in another goaltender, Ben Scrivens, whos had statistically a very good season so far," Oilers general manager Craig MacTavish told his teams website. "It gives us an opportunity to have a pretty good look at him going forward to see where he could possibly fit in on a longer-term goaltending plan." Scrivens does get to be reunited with Edmonton coach Dallas Eakins, who coached the goaltender in the minors with the Toronto Marlies. Scrivens gets the call between the pipes this evening. The Oilers will try to avoid a third consecutive loss tonight having been bested 5-2 by the Dallas Stars on Tuesday. The Stars scored 14 seconds into the game and led 3-1 after the first period. "Its the same old story; we cant put a full 60 minutes together for some reason," Edmonton defenseman Justin Schultz said. "We played well at the end, we were skating and using our speed and we had a lot of chances, but weve got to find a way to do that for all 60 (minutes)." Schultz and Sam Gagner had the goals, both assisted by Taylor Hall, and Bryzgalov made 25 saves in Edmontons seventh loss in nine games overall and fifth in a row on the road. It is unknown if the Oilers Ales Hemsky will be able to play tonight after sitting out the third period on Tuesday with an ankle injury. Bryzgalov is 7-8-0 with a 2.64 GAA in 16 career meetings with the Wild, all but one of those starts. WINNIPEG -- For more than 56 minutes it looked like Winnipeg Jets goaltender Ondrej Pavelec was going to make his pre-season debut with a shutout over the Edmonton Oilers. But then a 3-0 lead turned into a 3-2 nail biter in less than half a minute and became a teaching moment. "Its about the details," said Pavelec after Winnipeg held on for the win Tuesday. "Weve got a few young guys. Its good for them. Its a good experience for them that we have to be ready every shift. Weve got to be focused all 60 minutes. You can see it today, it can cost you the game." It was a little sloppy but the Jets (1-1-1) brought a bit more of their A-team than the Oilers (1-1-1) and it showed, particularly in the second period. Michael Frolik, on the power play, and Carl Klingberg scored for the Jets with Eric Tangradi assisting on both. It looked like the game was all but over when tough guy Anthony Peluso added another for Winnipeg at 15:35 in the third. The Jets were still patting themselves on the back when Mitchell Moroz put the Oilers on the board less than a minute later with an assist from Philip Larson. Then Larson banged in his own less than half a minute later but despite some serious pressure the Oilers couldnt even it up. Frolik, one of two NHL veterans the Jets added in the off-season to bring some depth to their offence, said its always nice to get that first goal. "Every goal feels nice and youve got . . . that monkey off your back," he said. But, like Pavelec, he said the game was a good reminder of what not to do when the team let its focus fade in the third. "We have to learn from it." The Oilers played former Dallas Stars netminder Richard Bachman and he was one of the positives Edmonton coach Dallas Eakins took out of the game. "He had an excellent game," he said of Bachman, signed as a free agent this summer. "We know hes a good goalie but that was a surprising performance for me. We thought he held us in there, especially in the second period when I think they outchanced us two to one." The Jets were minus their top scoring line of Blake Wheeler, Bryan Little and Andrew Ladd but Dustin Byfuglien and Evander Kane both played. Kane missed the final minutes with stomach cramps but coach Claude Noel said he seems OK. Except for the end of the third, the more experienced Jets brought a lot more traffic to the Edmonton net than the Oilers managed to bring to the other end of the ice. "Thats kind of the danger but kind of the good as well of the exhibition games," said Eakins. "There can be a mismatch in the lineup and your team can hang in there with them and you want to see how hard your guys will push against those players." Winnipegs next game is Thursday against new division rival Minnesota. The Jets have yet to make deep cuts from their camp roster, trimming only 10 players last week. Eakins was applauded by Winnipeg fans who remember his time with the AHLs Manitoba Moose, where he finished his playing career before turning to coaching. He even played a couple of games with the old Winnipeg Jets just before they relocated to Phoenix. "Its nice," he said. "This is a city where Ive spent a lot of time . . . and Ive always got a soft spot in my heart for Winnipeg." With the second half of the season well underway and a two-and-a-half week Olympic break coming up, the NHLs Mar. 5 Trade Deadline isnt that far off and teams will be making decisions on whether to buy, sell and decide which players can make the biggest difference and hold the greatest value. Check out todays trade rumours and speculation from around the NHL beat. And follow TSN.ca through Deadline Day for all the updates. While the Windows Open After being extended by the Ottawa Senators through 2016, general manager Bryan Murray said he was ready to make moves to add the missing pieces for a Stanley Cup run. Speaking with TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LebBrun of ESPN.com, Murray said "I think we do have a good number of young people I would think other organizations would be interested in." Murray made it clear, however, that Curis Lazar - the teams 2013 first round draft pick - would not be traded by the team. The target for the Senators was narrowed down by Murray, "probably the one area that like a lot of teams we still need is another forward that has some impact, either in the scoring part of it or the physical part. Either/or, and I think that would address a need on our hockey team." Gateway to the Cup? Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal believes that the St. Louis Blues will try to upgrade their goaltending by the trade deadline and could target Buffalo Sabres goaltender Ryan Miller. The Blues could offer goalie Jaroslav Halak and a prospect or young forward in exchange for Miller but will not trade winger Dmitrij Jaskin. Wheeling and Dealing Matheson also reports the Pittsburgh Penguins would like to acquire Winnipeg Jets winger Blake Wheeler to play with Sidney Crosby and Chris Kunitz on the teams first line. The main obstacle, according to Matheson, is that the Jets are not interested in accepting draft picks in exchange for core players. The Penguins are reportedly willing to trade defenceman Simon Despres, their 2009 first round pick. Blue Line, Blue Chip Addition? According to Matheson, the Anaheim Ducks are looking to upgrade their defence and would like to add Dan Girardi of the New York Rangers. The Ducks are willing to move Luca Sbisa, Sheldon Souray and their two first round picks in 2014 (their own and the pick they acquired from Ottawa in the Bobby Ryan trade). Girardi is slated to become anunrestricted free-agent at the end of the season. Not Good Enough Wes Gilbertson of the Calgary Sun reports Flames forwards Mike Cammalleri, Matt Stajan and Lee Stepniak are negatively impacting their trade value with their recent poor play. All three forwards have been linked to trade talk and will be unrestricted free-agents at the end of this season. The latest name added to the growing list is Brandon Prust, who is out four weeks with a right shoulder injury. The positive thing that comes when dealing with injuries is that it now opens the door to new players to prove themselves and that is exactly what Patrick Holland is hoping to do. Holland, along with Michael Blunden, were recalled from Hamilton and joined the group at practice today. Tomorrow night, Holland will make his regular season NHL debut against the Edmonton Oilers.   "Growing up I wanted to be Jerry Seinfeld, but becoming a professional hockey player is a pretty awesome alternative" Holland said with a big smile on his face. The 21-year-old forward from Lethbridge, Alberta has a great sense of humour, and made quite a few media members crack up with his one-liners today. He was drafted 193 overall in the 2010 by the Calgary Flames.  Holland joined the Canadiens as part of that unusual Mike Cammalleri trade which was made mid-game against the Boston Bruins in 2012. At that time, Holland, playing in the WHL for the Tri-City Americans, was in Vancouver as Tri-City was preparing to play the Vancouver Giants the following night. Oddly enough he just so happened to be watching the Habs-Bruins&nbssp;game in his hotel room.dddddddddddd When he was on his way to the team dinner it was announced that Cammalleri was traded to the Calgary Flames, but did not say for who. "When I got to the restaurant my teammates and I were all talking about the trade and I joked that I was part of it. Maybe five or 10 minutes after I made that joke, my phone rang and I saw it was the Calgary Flames calling" he said. It was Jay Feaster, the general manager of the Flames, calling to tell him he had been traded to Montreal. Holland, who turned pro last season, has been enjoying his time with the Canadiens organization. "I feel very comfortable here, I know a lot of these guys from playing in Hamilton and from training camp a few weeks ago" Holland said on the eve of his NHL debut. Brendan Gallagher is one of those players he knows well. He lived with him, along with prospect Morgan Ellis, in Hamilton for the first half of the season last year.  Growing up, Holland was a fan of the Edmonton Oilers and his favorite player was Ales Hemsky. "It will be a very cool experience getting to play against him tomorrow" Holland said. Unfortunately, his parents will not be able to make it to Montreal for tomorrows game, but he will have his cousin, who attends Queens University in Kingston come to town to see him play. Barcelonas entertaining victory ensured the defending Spanish champions retained their share of the league lead with Atletico Madrid two rounds ahead of their meeting in the capital. They were controlling the match from the beginning to the end." MELBOURNE, Australia -- On current form and on a very familiar golf course, the two top-ranked players at the World Cup -- Adam Scott and Matt Kuchar -- are heavy favourites for individual honours when play begins Thursday at Royal Melbourne. He will not be added to the major league roster. ... Detroit LF Matt Tuiasosopo made an outstanding diving catch for the third out in the seventh, preventing the White Sox from scoring more that inning. ... The Tigers send RHP Anibal Sanchez (14-7) to the mound Sunday to face Chicago RHP Erik Johnson (1-2). TORONTO – It was as though hed run into a wall. (Sports Network) - The Boston Red Sox would have to feel pretty good about themselves if they can claim a series victory over the streaking Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday night. More important, it would assure the Red Sox keep at least a share of first place in the AL East. You can see all the action on TSN2 beginning at 8pm et/5pm pt. Boston dropped into a tie for the top spot with the Tampa Bay Rays after losing Fridays opener 2-0, but both clubs picked up wins Saturday to keep their virtual deadlock in place. The Red Sox did their part by jumping on Dodgers starter Hyun-Jin Ryu early for a 4-2 victory. After getting shut out in the opener, Boston plated all four of its runs in the opening frame. Mike Napoli hit an RBI single and Jonny Gomes followed with a three-run homer. Jon Lester held the early lead, pitching seven scoreless innings before getting charged with one run in the eighth. He recorded one out in the frame before exiting and yielded three hits and four walks while striking out six in total. "I commanded the ball pretty well. I moved my fastball around and got more consistent with my cutter," Lester said. "Any time you get such an early lead, you just try to attack the zone." Craig Breslow gave up Los Angeles only run-scoring hit, a two-out double by former Red Sox Adrian Gonzalez with two outs in the eighth. He then walked Hanley Ramirez, leading to Boston manager John Farrell bringing in closer Koji Uehara to record the final out of the frame, which he got by striking out A.J. Ellis. Uehara then retired the Dodgers in order in the ninth to record his 13th save and put the Red Sox in position to win two straight for the first time since Aug. 6-7. Boston has alternated wins and losses over its last eight games. Ryu was pulled after five innings by manager Don Mattingly, having surrendered five hits and the four runs with seven strikeouts. "We were in it at the end but we just couldnt find a way to break through," said Mattingly. "But our bullpen was tremendous. They kept us in the game and gave us a chance to come back." The Dodgers had a four-game winning streak snapped and lost for just the sixth time in 35 games since the All-Star break. Los Angeles also lost at Dodger Stadium for the first time versus Boston, which was swept in a three-game set there from June 21-23, 2002. Still owners of a 9 1/2-game lead over Arizona for first place in the NL West, the Dodgers turn to fifth starter Chris Capuano tonight. Capuano, a native of Massachusetts, will face the Red Sox for the first time in his career. The 35-year-old lefty has not lost since July 4, going 4-6 with a 4.70 earned run average in 19 games this season with 17 starts. However, he does have a 6.23 ERA in nine starts at home. Capuano logged his third straight no-decision on Tuesday. He gave up three runs on six hits and a walk over five innings at the Miami Marlins, a game the Dodgers won 6-4. L.A. has won each of Capuanos last seven outings. Getting the call for the Red Sox will be Jake Peavy, who has not won since his Boston debut on Aug. 3 after getting dealt by the Chicago White Sox. In three starts since his win, Peavy is 0-1 with a 4.86 ERA, but has allowed only three runs and 10 hits over his last two starts. He did not factor into a 3-2 loss on Tuesday at the San Francisco Giants, giving up a run over 5 2/3 innings. The 32-year-old righty is 9-5 with a 4.25 ERA in 17 total starts this year and has plenty of experience versus the Dodgers given his tenure with the San Diego Padres. In 24 previous meetings, Peavy is 13-2 with a 2.27 ERA. Cheap NFL Jerseys From China . After a scandal-filled week spent investigating teams and undoing attempts to manipulate its championship field, NASCAR came forward with a series of rules that will change the way teams have called races for years. NASCAR Chairman Brian France told teams he expects them "to give 100 per cent" at all times, meeting with them for nearly 20 minutes at Chicagoland Speedway on the eve of the opening race of the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship. "I think we wanted to be very clear and we wanted to reinforce the cornerstone of NASCAR, which is giving your all," France said. "We addressed team rules, a variety of other things, all designed to do what our fans expect, and that means that their driver and their team give 100 per cent to finish as high up in a given race as possible. We were very clear about that. Thats our expectations." The warning came after an unprecedented week for NASCAR, which has been rocked by allegations of race-fixing since Clint Bowyer spun his car with seven laps remaining last Saturday night at Richmond, the race that completed the 12-driver field for the Chase. NASCAR was forced to investigate when it became clear that Bowyer spun in an attempt to stop leader Ryan Newman from winning and give teammate Martin Truex Jr. one last chance to earn a Chase berth. The investigation uncovered at least three instances of race manipulations and led to severe sanctions against Michael Waltrip Racing and the removal of unwitting participant Truex from the Chase in favour of Newman. The central piece of evidence was radio communications, and the penalties against MWR set off a chain of events NASCAR never anticipated. Next came allegations of a scheme to sell track position and it triggered a new investigation involving deep-pocketed Penske Racing and tiny Front Row Motorsports. It culminated Friday with Frances stunning decision to expand the Chase field to 13 drivers to accommodate Jeff Gordon, who had been bumped out of the Chase by the shenanigans of three drivers. Gordon was pleased with the ruling, but uncomfortable with the way the week developed. "The integrity of the sport has been put at question," Gordon admitted. "I think we have one of the greatest sports that exists. To see our integrity questioned is very upsetting to me, and I think we, along with NASCAR, have to solve this. I wish it had not happened under these circumstances." NASCAR ultimately decided it couldnt prove Bowyer spun on purpose, but did find that MWR manipulated the race to help Truex by having Bowyer and Brian Vickers pit late in the race. The idea was that Joey Logano would bump Gordon out of a Chase spot, and Truex would get in through a wild card. But in singling out the MWR cars for pitting to help Truex, NASCAR threw into question the long-accepted practice of deal-making between teams. That brought to light a late race conversation between Front Row team members, who were willing to have David Gilliland move aside for Logano in exchange for something it had previously asked for from Penske Racing. When told to relay that information to Loganos spotter, the crew chief is told the request for track position is coming from the "whole committee." "Weve got the big dog and all of his cronies," the spotter said in an apparent reference to team owner Roger Penske and other team employees. NASCAR has tightened many of the areas that allowed the manipulations to occur in a series of new rules that were outlined for the teams and will begin Sunday.dddddddddddd Among them: --No more deals, no offering a position in exchange for a favour or material benefit, no altering the finish, no intentionally causing a caution, no intentionally pitting to gain advantage for another competitor or intentionally wrecking another competitor. The list of things not allowed is a work in progress, NASCAR President Mike Helton said. Penalties can include suspension. --Only one spotter per team will be allowed on the spotter stand. It means Roger Penske can no longer watch the race from his preferred perch on the roof, and NASCAR will install a camera atop every roof to monitor things. --Digital radios are now banned on the spotter stand, meaning spotters can no longer communicate on a private channel with a team. Spotters will also be limited to two analog radios, scanners and a handheld fan device. All communications from the spotter stand to the team can be monitored by the public. --NASCAR said it will address new restart rules Sunday. Some drivers have complained about inconsistency on how restarts have been policed all season, and fans complained winner Carl Edwards jumped early last week past leader Paul Menard. Its been overshadowed in the Chase controversy, and will apparently be addressed before Sundays race. Gordon had hoped the meeting would lead to positive changes for the sport. "This has probably been coming for a couple years now and needed to change sooner," Gordon said. "I like the fact that some things are going to change because all we all want to do is race our guts out every single lap. None of us want to go out there and give up a spot or race somebody different because our teammate is running for a championship. We want to go out there racing for every position, every lap, as hard as we can." France said he didnt speak to any drivers after the meeting, but sensed a redefining of the rules was overdue. "This is what they want. They want to have clarity and they dont like team rules, and they dont like some of the things that have gone on in the past," France said. "Theyre never pleased when we call them to a meeting. But I also believe that they understand what we want to get back to -- its to not worry about anything but winning races and doing your best." Paul Wolfe, crew chief for defending series champion Brad Keselowski, said NASCAR was clear in its meeting. "I think it got everyones attention," Wolfe said. "I think everyone should have a pretty clear understanding ... if you go out there and run 100 per cent to your ability and run a normal race, then everything will be fine." Seven-time champion and Hall of Famer Richard Petty believes none of the events at Richmond differed from what occurred a week earlier at Atlanta. But because of the stakes -- 10 drivers vying for five Chase berths -- he said the actions of a few were magnified and NASCAR had to act. "If it had happened at Atlanta, nobody would have paid any attention to it," Petty said. "But, it was a perfect storm (at Richmond). Thats what makes such a big deal out of it." For NASCAR, the next step is getting back on track on Sunday and putting on a good, clean race. "Circumstances happen that are unhelpful in the credibility category, theres no doubt about that," France said. "You go back to what youre about, and what were about is the best racing in the world with the best drivers giving 100 per cent of their ability."
