SAN JOSE, Calif. Larry Csonka Dolphins Jersey . -- San Jose Sharks general manager Doug Wilson said Friday that the organization strongly disagrees with the NHLs decision to suspend forward Raffi Torres for a hit that knocked out Los Angeles forward Jarret Stoll. Wilson says Torres will not appeal the suspension because he does not want to be a distraction to the team. San Jose trails the series 2-0 heading into Game 3 at home on Saturday night. "It is abundantly clear that this was a clean hockey hit," Wilson said in a statement. "As noted by the NHL, Raffis initial point of contact was a shoulder-to-shoulder hit on an opponent who was playing the puck. He did not leave his feet or elevate, he kept his shoulder tucked and elbow down at his side, and he was gliding -- not skating or charging." The NHLs Department of Player Safety sharply disagreed while suspending Torres on Thursday for the rest of the second-round series. It is the fourth career suspension for Torres, who is considered a repeat offender in dangerous hits under the leagues collective bargaining agreement. Stoll was bent forward while trying to play a bouncing puck when Torres approached him from the side for a violent hit in Game 1 on Tuesday night. Stolls head snapped back violently before he fell forward onto the ice. In an explanatory video released by Brendan Shanahan, the NHLs senior vice-president of player safety, he said Stolls head was "the principal point of contact" in the hit, creating grounds for suspension. Although Torres initially made contact with Stolls right shoulder, Shanahan ruled that the shoulder hit was only a glancing blow, as evidenced by the direction both players travelled after the contact. Wilson said the head must be targeted to violate Rule 48.1 and there is no evidence that Torres targeted Stolls head. Wilson also said Stoll put himself in a vulnerable position just before the hit to play a bouncing puck. "It appears that the NHL has not only made an inappropriate application of this rule but is trying to make an example out of a player who is being judged on past events, one who has changed his game dramatically this season and taken only six minor penalties in 39 games," Wilson said. While playing for Phoenix last season, Torres received a 21-game suspension -- initially 25 games -- for a high hit on Chicago star Marian Hossa in the first round of the playoffs. Torres was suspended for two games in January 2012 for charging Minnesota defenceman Nate Prosser, and he sat out four games in April 2011 for a hit to the head of Edmontons Jordan Eberle while playing for Vancouver. Stoll missed Game 2 of the series and there is no timetable for his return. "Its a clean hit," Sharks forward Logan Couture said. "Unfortunately, the guy got injured. If they suspended guys for every time someone else got hurt, even if its a clean hit, there would be a lot of suspensions in this league. And its just not fair." Torres teammates said they are using Torres absence as inspiration. "Its the playoffs you always find something to rally," forward Scott Gomez said. "Hes a great teammate and a great guy and we want him to play. Hes tremendous in the room with the young guys. Its our job to get it to the next round so he can play." Jordan Cameron Jersey . And theres plenty of intrigue surrounding the game as all eyes are focused on what the Sabres may or may not do with goaltender Ryan Miller going into the trade deadline. Miller, who kept his habit of not talking to reporters after the game day skate, is in the final year of his contract and could opt to leave Buffalo via free agency over the summer. The 33-year-old served as backup to Jonathan Quick for Team USA in February and he could make the difference for a playoff hopeful team down the stretch. The rebuilding club is mulling over whether or not to deal the star netminder - or perhaps even re-sign him - before March 5. Like Miller, Sabres forward Steve Ott is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent over the summer, and, unless Buffalo is able to sign Ott to an extension, his days in Buffalo could be numbered as well. "Obviously I told them I want to be here," Ott recently told his clubs official web site. "Well see where it all goes. Im professional enough to know the business side of things as well and what the situation is here as well. Well see how it all plays out in the next two weeks or so." Buffalo ended its pre-Olympic schedule on a four-game losing streak and it will try to halt that 0-4-0 stretch tonight. With its win last month in Buffalo, the Hurricanes have won two straight and four of their past five games in western New York. Carolina has claimed four in a row and five of six in the series overall. Buffalo is beginning a three-game homestand tonight, but that is hardly a consolation for a club that has lost eight straight as the host. All told, the Sabres are 9-17-5 as the home team this season. Jelani Jenkins Jersey. The Sabres also will be in action on Wednesday night when they host the Boston Bruins. This contest was originally scheduled for Jan. 7 before wintry weather forced that meeting to be postponed until tonight. The clubs met once after that postponement when the Hurricanes notched a 5-3 win in Buffalo on Jan. 23. Alexander Semin had two goals in Carolinas triumph, while Anton Khudobin -- the NHLs First Star for January -- turned aside 26-of-29 shots. Khudobin could hold the key to getting Carolina back to the postseason for the first time since the spring of 2009. The 27-year-old Russian is turning heads in his first season in Raleigh and has clearly outplayed longtime No. 1 backstop Cam Ward in 2013-14. Khudobin entered the Olympic break with a 19-13-6 record, 2.14 goals against average and a .927 save percentage. Ward, meanwhile, is 6-7-5 with a 3.15 GAA and .895 save percentage. Carolina enters tonight three points out of a playoff berth in the Eastern Conference, and Khudobin could make a positive difference for the club down the stretch. Although Khudobin helped the Canes win six of their last nine games before the break, the club did find itself on the losing end in three of its final five tests prior to the Olympics. "Its a restart button for everybody," said Hurricanes head coach Kirk Muller of the time off. "Its a great opportunity for everyone to take a deep breath and use this break mentally and physically. Our goal is to make the playoffs, and were going to need everybody." Carolina was 2-2-0 on a four-game homestand that completed the teams pre- Olympics schedule and the club will emerge from the hiatus to begin a five- game road trip. The Hurricanes are just 11-10-4 as the visiting team this season. Wholesale Jerseys China ' ' '

PAUL, Minn. -- A mid-game adjustment was key to the Minnesota Wild earning two points Tuesday night. Moved to the top line, Justin Fontaine scored late in the second period, Josh Harding stopped 16 shots for his first shutout of the season and the Wild beat the Nashville Predators 2-0. Jason Pominville added an empty-netter for the Wild, who have scored just seven goals in the past five games while posting a 2-2-1 record. "Its all about wins right now, and we havent been winning, so tonight was a step in the right direction," said Harding, who lowered his goals-against average to a league-best 0.96. Pekka Rinne made 27 saves for Nashville, which failed to get a point for the first time in six games. The Predators have allowed just five goals in regulation in last four games, going 2-1-1 in that stretch. Fontaine broke the scoreless tie at 18:53 of the second period when he charged down the slot and was able to put a rebound into the Predators net for his second goal of the season. "Thats one of those situations you have to manage," Rinne said. "You have to find a way to go to intermission 0-0." Fontaine didnt start the game paired with Zach Parise and Mikko Koivu, but with the Minnesota offence again failing to capitalize on its many chances, coach Mike Yeo replaced Nino Niederreiter as the top lines right wing. "It started in practice yesterday. Im kind of a big fan of left shot-right shot, and wed been talking about this and talked to Mikko about it yesterday, so it was something in the back of our minds," Yeo said. "For them to be able to attack through the neutral zone with some speed, it certainly helps if youve got a guy on the strong side." Beginning a stretch where it plays six of seven games at home, Minnesota dominated for much of the game, but continued to struggle in the offensive end. The Wild, who entered the game averaging 30.7 shots per game, sent 13 at Rinne in the first 13 minutes, but couldnt get anything past him. Rinne made two key stops on a penalty kill to thwart Marco Scandella and Dany Heatley and later stopped Koivu in front. &quoot;Weve been struggling to score goals, but if we keep throwing pucks to the net, theyre going to go in," Fontaine said. Jeremy Lane Jersey. Rinne had to come up big because Nashville struggled to get shots at Harding. The Predators had just three first-period shots, six in the second and seven in the third. "Our best player was our goaltender. We had too many guys that didnt bring their A game," Nashville coach Barry Trotz said. "I thought wed be a little more even. I didnt think we were much of a participant much of the game until the third period." Hardings best save came late in the second when he stopped Eric Nystrom, who had slipped behind two Wild defencemen during a rare Nashville rush. "I cant take credit for this one," Harding said. "If you watch the replays or watch the whole game over again, you cant say enough about what the D-men did and what the forwards did. That was as sound a game as far as breaking the puck out in front of the net, blocking shots, good sticks. This isnt me. This is for sure a team shutout." Minnesota played with just five defencemen much of the game after losing Jonas Brodin less than 5 minutes into the game when a dump-in by Gabriel Bourque hit Brodin in the face. Leaving blood on the ice, Brodin went straight to the Wild locker room. Yeo said Brodin was taken to the hospital for X-rays. The Wild nearly lost another blue-liner when Scandella was hit in the leg by a slap shot from Shea Weber late in the period. Scandella struggled to the Wild bench before being helped to the locker room. However, he returned for the second period. NOTES: Entering the game, Nashville had the leagues best faceoff win percentage at 55.8 per cent; Minnesota was second at 55.7. The Predators had a 55-45 advantage in the game. ... Wild D Ryan Suter played his 600th game, the first 542 with Nashville before signing a 13-year, $98 million deal with Minnesota on July 4, 2012. ... Starting from pole, the 26-year-old Vettel turned in a trademark clinical performance to win the Indian Grand Prix on Sunday and join F1 greats Juan Manuel Fangio and Michael Schumacher as just the third driver to win four consecutive championships. The only other driver to win four titles was Alain Prost. Vettel is also the youngest four-time world champion by eight years. "Im way too young to understand what it means," he said of his achievement. "I might be 60 one day, maybe then I will understand, but nobody cares anymore. I care. Its difficult to realize something that nobody can take away from you basically." As in the past two years in India, Vettel won from pole position, finishing almost 30 seconds ahead of Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg in second, with Romain Grosjean taking his second straight third for Lotus after starting from 17th on the grid. "Youve won it in style," an elated Red Bull team principal Christian Horner told Vettel over the car radio immediately after the race. "Brilliant stuff. Youve joined the greats." After taking the checkered flag, Vettel performed several donuts on the track before climbing from his car, acknowledging the crowd and kneeling with his head bowed to the track. He then climbed the pit lane fence to embrace members of his team. Vettel was later reprimanded and Red Bull fined 25,000 euros ($34, 500) by race stewards for the display of exuberance and failing to "proceed directly from the circuit to the post-race parc ferme (secure area) without delay." The penalties are unlikely to dampen the celebrations. "Im overwhelmed, dont know what to say," Vettel said immediately after the race. "It is one of the best days of my life. With Vettels win, Red Bull also claimed its fourth straight constructors title, despite losing Mark Webber to mechanical problems while in second place. Ferraris Felipe Massa was fourth with teammate Fernando Alonso finishing a disappointing 11th. "Today is the day to congratulate (Vettel) and for him to enjoy the championship," Alonso said, who is 115 points behind the Red Bull driver in second place in the standings with three rraces remaining. Gary Zimmerman Broncos Jersey. Vettel has now won 10 races this season, including the last six. A clearly emotional Vettel, taking occasional swigs from his celebratory magnum of champagne, thanked his team and his family in a post-race media conference. He spoke of his respect for the Indian people and rivals including Alonso, Lewis Hamilton and Webber. "To win four titles, I dont know, its just a big number you know?" Vettel said. "Fangio put the number of five titles and everybody appreciated him as the best driver in the world. Michael (Schumacher) came along ... its incredible that one guy managed to score more championships (seven) than (Fangio) did." Starting on the quick but fragile soft tires, Vettel lasted just one lap before switching to the medium compounds, emerging from the pit lane in 17th place. Vettel wove his way back toward the front, gradually narrowing the gap and passing McLaren driver Sergio Perez on the 22nd lap to move into second behind Webber. Webber eventually entered the pits for his first tire change to soft tires on the 29th lap and Vettel made his second and last stop three laps later to new medium tires, returning to the track just over eight seconds behind Webber. When Webber switched back to medium tires two laps later, he effectively handed the race to Vettel. Red Bull then ordered a stunned Webber to stop while in second place on the 42nd lap due to a problem with his cars alternator. "Disappointing, but theres not much I can do," Webber said. "There was something wrong with the car, so we had to stop straight away." With the Australian out, the race became a tussle for the lesser podium places, with pacesetting Rosberg passing Lotus driver Kimi Raikkonen for second on the closing laps before Grosjean capped a dogged race by defying the odds and reaching the podium after being eliminated in the first qualifying session Saturday. "I would not have bet a penny on me being on the podium today," Grosjean said. "But the car came back. " Vettel meanwhile was struggling to come to terms with the enormity of his achievement. "It was a difficult emotion to cross the line and feel happy all of a sudden because youre in a rhythm, you know what youre doing, you have a routine," he said. "I think it takes time to understand what happened." Wholesale Jerseys China ' ' '

SEATTLE -- Not long ago, the Seattle Sounders found themselves needing to pick up as many points possible just to get back into playoff positioning. Sealver Siliga Jersey . Very quickly, the Sounders made up the ground and find themselves as the points leaders in Major League Soccer. "Weve kept climbing, kept climbing and now were in first place. Now weve got to make sure we stay there and enjoy the view a little bit," Seattle coach Sigi Schmid said. Obafemi Martins scored just three minutes into the match to give Seattle an early lead, Lamar Neagle added a second goal in the 38th minute, and the Sounders took over the MLS points lead with a 2-0 win over Real Salt Lake on Friday night. The Sounders (15-8-4) vaulted past Salt Lake in the Western Conference standings and now sit atop the entire league with 49 points after their fifth straight victory. The Sounders are one-point ahead of RSL (14-9-6) and four ahead of the Eastern Conference trio of Montreal, New York and Sporting Kansas City with about six weeks remaining in the regular season. Seattle has also played two fewer games than Salt Lake. Its a stark turn from Seattles slumping start back in the spring when it took just two points from its first five matches. But Seattle has won eight of nine and still have games in hand on most of the league. "Its tremendous, especially with what weve had to go through to get here," Seattle defender Zach Scott said. Neagle scored in his third straight match and Seattle dominated the first half with U.S. national team stars Eddie Johnson and Clint Dempsey sitting on the bench as reserves. Seattle improved to 38-0-8 in its last 46 matches when getting the first goal and are 8-0-2 all-time playing in front of crowds bigger than 40,000 at home. Fridays game was played before 55,107, the second-largest home crowd this season. And it very easily could have been a bigger victory with the Sounders failing to finish a number of chances or Salt Lake goalkeeper Nick Rimando making big saves. Both teams were at nearly full strength following World Cup qualifying. Midfielder Kyle Beckerman and Rimando started for Salt Lake, even with Beckerman playing 90 minutes against Mexico on Tuesday. Seattle chose to bring Dempsey and Johnson off the bench after the pair played extensive minutes against both Costa Rica and Mexico. Dempsey came on in the 61st minute replacing Marc Burch. It was just the second appearance at home for Dempsey since his signing in early August. Within 90 seconds of being on the field, Dempsey was chopped down by Ned Grabavoy, drawing a yellow card for the reckless tackle. Johnson came on in the 75th minute. "The team has really been playing well and credit goes to them," Dempsey said. "Thats a game thats easy to go into when its 2-0." By the time they got on the field, the Sounders were well on their way to victory. "Its obviously a very scary situation. Were down two goals, and he brings on Eddie Johnson and Clint Dempsey," Salt Lake coach Jason Kreis said. Martins goal was his eighth of the season and was a quick strike due to the hustle of midfielder Andy Rose. Martins pass was close to going over the end line, but Rose was able to chase it down and place a perfect centring pass to Martins open in front of the net. Neagles eighth goal was created by the lengthy run from defender DeAndre Yedlin, who found open space along the right side. Yedlin carried into the penalty box and had the time to pick out Neagle making a move away from the goal and into the middle of the box where he was unmarked for the easy goal. Seattle appeared to get a lucky break in the 80th minute when Javier Morales free kick from distance cleared traffic in the penalty box and bounced into the stomach of Seattle goalkeeper Michael Gspurning, whose feet were in the goal. Officials ruled Gspurning kept the ball from fully crossing the goal line. "If youre not sharp against a team like Seattle, they can really break, theyre dangerous on the counter," Beckerman said. "That was the key tonight. We just werent at our best. We lost to a team thats really good in their place, so credit to them." Germain Ifedi Jersey . The St. Louis Cardinals are confident there is more to come, too. Carpenter broke Stan Musials team record for doubles by a left-handed batter in a season as the Cardinals beat the Milwaukee Brewers 7-2 Saturday night to maintain a two-game lead in the NL Central. Carpenters fifth-inning double was his 54th one more than Musials total in 1953. Carpenter went into the game aware he was tied with Stan the Man. "To know that you have done something, took a record from (Musial) or broke a record that he held, you cant put it into words," Carpenter said. "It is pretty amazing. It is something I am extremely proud of and definitely a cool thing." Carpenter grounded out to start of the game and flied out in the second. But with two outs in the fifth, he hit a shot into the right-field corner to set the mark. "Someone had mentioned to me that I tied him last night, so when I hit it today, I knew," Carpenter said. "I got the ball and I got the base, so pretty cool." Despite his personal success, Carpenter and the Cardinals know they have more to do. "The only thing on my mind is the division championship," he said. "If I can do my job to help us win, then all those individual things will take care of themselves. The Cardinals lead Pittsburgh by two games and are ahead of Cincinnati by three games. St. Louis won for the 12th time in 17 games and improved to 14-4 against the Brewers this year, including 8-1 in Milwaukee. He had a rough first inning, but after that nothing bothered him. "He was struggling a little bit," Matheny said. "Once he found that groove, and you could tell found that four-seamer, it was a completely different game." Yovani Gallardo (11-10) gave up two runs and four hits in seven innings and dropped to 1-11 with a 6.46 ERA in 17 career starts against St. Louis. Matt Adams hit a two-run homer for the second straight night, putting the Cardinals ahead in the first. What's particular about Total Macro Photography Class?

London, England (Sports Network) - Felipe Massa revealed on Tuesday that he will leave Ferrari at the end of the 2013 Formula One season. Massa, who is in his eighth season with Ferrari, posted the announcement on his official Twitter page and Instagram. "From 2014 I will no longer be driving for Ferrari," the 32-year-old Brazilian wrote. "I would like to thank the team for all the victories and incredible moments experienced together. Thank you also to my wife and all of my family, to my fans and all my sponsors. From each one of you I have always received a great support! "Right now I want to push as hard as possible with Ferrari for the remaining 7 races. For next year, I want to find a team that can give me a competitive car to win many more races and challenge for the championship which remains my greatest objective!" Prior to joining Ferrari in 2006, Massa drove for Sauber in his first three F1 seasons. He has scored 11 victories and made 36 podium appearances in 184 career grand prix starts. Massa finished only one point behind Lewis Hamilton for the F1 title in 2008. Hamilton drove for McLaren at the time. Massas 2009 season was curtailed when he sustained multiple head injuries during a high-speed qualifying crash in the Hungarian Grand Prix. He scored six victories during the 08 season but has not won a grand prix since then. There is much speculation now that Kimi Raikkonen will rejoin Ferrari for the 2014 season after driving for the Italian team from 2007-09. Raikkonen won the F1 world championship in 07. After leaving the team at the end of the 09 season, he competed in the World Rally Championship for two years before his return to F1 in 2012 to drive for Lotus. Saubers Nico Hulkenberg is also being considered as Massas replacement for next year. Last Sunday, Massa finished fourth in the Italian Grand Prix, which is the home race for Ferrari. SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Logan Couture scored on a power play 3:28 into overtime to give the San Jose Sharks a 3-2 win over the Phoenix Coyotes on Saturday night. Coutures winner gave the Sharks their second victory of the preseason just 32 seconds after the Coyotes were called for having too many men on the ice. Oliver Ekman-Larsson gave the Coyotes a 1-0 lead with 9:52 left in the first when he got a wrist shot past Harri Sateri. Just 52 seconds into the second, the Sharks capitalized on a four-minute double-minor penalty to Chris Brown and tied it up when Freddie Hamilton quickly scored on a power play. Jason Demers gave San Jose a 2-1 lead when he scored on a power play with 8:23 remaining in the second as he was able to skip the puck past Mike Smith. Phoenix evened the score with 31 seconds left in the second when Andy Miele converted a power play. Sateri is trying to win a spot on San Joses roster as the backup to regular goalie Antti Niemi. Team general manager Ed Hervey says staff will monitor Reillys progress and then make a determination when -- or if -- he comes back this season. "Theyre going through the (concussion) protocol for the rest of the week and well (then) make that determination," Hervey told a news conference Monday at Commonwealth Stadium. Reilly, 28, went down with a minute to go in the first quarter of Saturdays 34-22 loss to the Toronto Argonauts at Commonwealth. It came from a hellacious, and illegal, hit by Argo defensive end Cleyon Laing as the Esks were driving for a touchdown. Reilly took the shotgun snap and was immediately flushed from the pocket. He ran left, then cut right and headed up the middle, but was caught by Argo linebacker Robert McCune and defensive end Ivan Brown. They had Reilly in a vise and were pulling him to the ground when Laing charged in from the backside and drilled his helmet into the back of Reillys helmet, causing Reillys head to snap violently forward. Reilly lay motionless on the turf for almost 10 seconds while receiver Nate Coehoorn looked down at him and frantically signalled the medical staff to come on. Reilly said he was never unconscious while on the ground and on Monday said he didnt know what Coehoorn was so concerned about. "Youd have to ask Nate. I dont know," he said. By the time staff arrived Reilly had staggered to his feet, looking dazed and a bit disoriented, waving away one of the trainers and taking a deep breath. Reilly told reporters Monday he felt fine after the hit. "I felt great," said Reilly. "I was more concerned about the rest of my body than my head. "I didnt feel like there was any head issues. I felt very clear. I was able to talk to the medical staff about anything that was going on. I had no headaches, no dizziness, no confusion. While I was on the field I felt 100 per cent mentally like I was able to play." Reilly was assessed for about a minute and given the green light. He said he felt clearheaded enough to take in the next play via the headset in his helmet, read the defence, adjust the throw for a press defence, and toss a 17-yard fade route to Shamawd Chambers in the end zone for seven points. "I felt great about my ability to assess the play and executive it properly," he said. During that play it Laing got free again, looping up the middle to drill Reilly in the shoulder as he threw. Reilly said it was a hard hit but did not contribute to the concussion. He said he began feeling the effects of the concussion when he went to the sideline while the special teams kicked the extra point. "When the first symptomm popped up, at that point they (the medical staff) shut it down and said, Theres no chance youre even getting close to the field," said Reilly.dddddddddddd He said he has felt good since the hit, has not had nausea or headaches. Reilly, head coach Kavis Reed and Hervey all stressed that training staff relied mainly -- and properly -- on Reillys responses to questions to keep him in the game. "Our training staff has followed every protocol in regards to this matter," added Hervey. "The player showed no signs (of concussion) at that time, and we stick by that. "We would never put a player in jeopardy here in Edmonton." The CFL has taken an active approach in the last two years to reduce concussions in the league. League-issued guidelines stress that players who take severe shots in the head and neck be assessed for 12 symptoms, including dizziness, disorientation, or confusion. Staff are urged in those situations to always err on the side of caution and pull a player. The medical community is stressing the dangers of allowing players with concussions to continue playing because of second impact syndrome. "Sometimes experiencing a second concussion before signs and symptoms of a first concussion have resolved may result in rapid and typically fatal brain swelling," reports the website from the internationally recognized Mayo Clinic in the United States. "It is important for athletes never to return to sports while theyre still experiencing signs and symptoms of a concussion." Michael Copeland, the CFLs president and chief operating officer, said the league believes the Eskimos followed proper protocol in diagnosing Reilly. "The trainers were right out on the field immediately after the hit, he said. "The trainers assessed the player, they asked him questions about head and neck pain, they asked him questions about headaches and he responded that wasnt experiencing any of those. "It was only until after the subsequent play, which got a lot of attention because he threw a touchdown pass, when he was on the sidelines that he first raised the issue of perhaps having some concussion-related symptoms. At that point they did the right thing in removing him from the game, which is what our protocol requires the medical staff to do. They did follow all the right protocol." Copeland added the CFL brings its medical personnel together at the leagues annual congress each winter to discuss injury protocol as well as health-and-safety issues. "I can tell your our medical staffs are incredibly engaged," he said. "These people are motivated and driven by their own professional responsibilities and requirements. "They look at these things very very closely and I think in this case they followed their normal procedures which you would expect them to do." Paris, France (Sports Network) - World No. 1 Novak Djokovic was an easy second-round winner Thursday at a rainy 2013 French Open. The Serbian star dismantled promising Argentine left-hander Guido Pella 6-2, 6-0, 6-2 in 1 hour, 26 minutes at Stade Roland Garros, where rain interrupted play several times on Day 5 and forced the suspension or postponement of several matches. The reigning Australian Open champion Djokovic was last years French and U.S. Open runner-up. He lost to Rafael Nadal in a marquee Paris finale. Djokovic needs a French Open title to complete a career Grand Slam. Up next for the Serbian slugger will be 26th-seeded rising Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, who topped 19-year-old French wild card Lucas Pouille 6-1, 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 on a wet, chilly day. The 22-year-old Dimitrov beat Djokovic on red clay at the Madrid Masters three weeks ago. The third-seeded former No. 1 Nadal had his second-rounder against Slovak Martin Klizan postponed until Friday. The seven-time champ is seeking a fourth straight title at Roland Garros. Thirteenth-seeded Japanese Kei Nishikori held off Slovenian Grega Zemlja 6-1, 5-7, 6-1, 6-4, while 16th-seeded German Philipp Kohlschreiber advanced via walkover when Taiwans Yen-Hsun Lu pulled out of the draw due to an ankle injury. Also on Day 5, rising 24th-seeded French favorite Benoit Paire played in between raindrops to beat Pole Lukasz Kubot 7-6 (7-2), 6-2, 6-4, 27th-seeded Italian Fabio Fognini foiled Czech Lukas Rosol 6-2, 7-6 (7-3), 2-6, 6-1, and Romanian veteran Victor Hanescu was leading Dmitry Tursunov 6-4, 6-6 when the oft-injured Russian retired due to a left thigh problem. Paire will tangle with Nishikori in the round of 32. Ninth-seeded Swiss Stan Wawrinka was leading Argentine Horacio Zeballos 6-2, 7-6 (7-2), 3-3, 29th-seeded Russian Mikhail Youzhny was ahead of Argentine Federico Delbonis 6-3, 1-1, and former world No. 3 Nikolay Davydenko of Russia was leading Uzbekistans Denis Istomin 3-2 in the first set when play was called for the day. The third round will commence Friday, including matches for second-seeded former No. 1 great Roger Federer, fourth-seeded Spaniard David Ferrer and sixth-seeded Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. Federer will take on 30th-seeded Frenchman Julien Benneteau, who upset the Swiss icon in Rotterdam earlier this year, while Ferrer will face left-handed fellow Spaniard Feliciano Lopez and the former Aussie Open runner-up Tsonga will battle 25th-seeded compatriot Jeremy Chardy. Just as Montreal was settling into the first full working week of a new year, the Impact announced the appointment of their new head coach. JERSEY CITY, N.J. -- Gary Woodland and Matt Kuchar exchanged birdies and bad breaks and wound up tied for the lead at The Barclays. Kuchar, who completed five holes of his second round Saturday morning for a 6-under 65 and a two-shot lead, was tied with Woodland on the reachable par-4 16th when his putt ran into a sprinkler and stopped, costing him a reasonable chance at birdie. He wound up with a 70 in the third round. Woodland had a one-shot lead until his tee shot on the 17th plugged in the far end of the fairway bunker, effectively costing him a full shot. He blasted out sideways, made bogey and had to settle for a 68. They were at 12-under 201, one shot ahead of Kevin Chappell, who broke the tournament course record with a bogey-free 62. Chappells round was so strong that it was 10 shots better than the average score at Liberty National, where the wind was blowing about 10 mph. "In the wind, if you would have told me someone was going to shoot 62 today, I would probably have laughed at you," Chappell said. Tiger Woods spent another round grabbing his lower back and bending over gingerly to put his ball on the tee and retrieve it from the cup. He was on the fringe of contention for much of the blustery afternoon until two solid shots on the par-5 13th for a birdie, driving the 16th green for a two-putt birdie and closing with a 10-foot birdie putt on the 18th for a 69 that left him very much in the picture at 8-under 205. "It starts off great every day, and then it progressively deteriorates as the day goes on," Woods said of his lower back, which he hurt from what he said was a soft bed in his hotel room. "Hopefully, tomorrow it will be one of those days again. Fight through it and see if I can win a tournament." David Lynn of England, who earned his PGA Tour card a year ago from his runner-up finish in the PGA Championship, also had a 69 and was tied with Woods, four behind. The large group at 7-under 206 included 20-year-old Jordan Spieth, Bubba Watson, Jim Furyk, Justin Rose and Rickie Fowler. With a dozen players separated by five shots, pure greens at Liberty National and limited rough, the first event of the FedEx Cup playoffs is still very much up for grabs. Chappells round was evidence that even in windy conditions, low scores are available. For the former UCLA Bruin, it was really waas simple as making putts, most of them in that 10-foot to 15-foot range.ddddddddddddThere were a few par saves on the back nine, and six birdies on the front. "I just really holed all the putts that you kind of expect to hold but you dont always hole," he said. Kuchar and Woodland will be in the final group for the second straight day, and they certainly arent strangers. Their caddies knew each other from the LPGA Tour, and they became friendly enough that Kuchar picked Woodland to be his partner in the World Cup two years ago. The Americans won for the first time in over a decade. Earlier this week, they were at the Braves-Mets game and went into an indoor batting cage. Kuchar pitched and was impressed with how well Woodland swung the bat, which is not to say he was surprised. Woodland is regarded as one of the best athletes on tour -- a promising baseball player in high school who first went to a Division II school to play basketball and then transferred to Kansas to play golf. But he has disappeared since winning at Innisbrook two years ago, mainly from injuries to both wrists. He began working with Claude Harmon in the spring, and he hired mental coach Julie Elion right before his season turned around by winning the Reno-Tahoe Open. "Ive really let my game take over," Woodland said. He surged into the lead during a four-hole stretch to close out the back nine -- a 5-iron into the par-5 sixth, a sand wedge to 10 feet for birdie on No. 7, a 4-wood for his second shot on the par-5 eighth for birdie, and a 6-iron for a fourth straight birdie on the ninth. Kuchar caught up by playing bogey-free on the back nine. DIVOTS: Rory McIlroy had an even-par 71 and was six shots out of the lead. ... Aaron Baddeley shot 66, and at No. 119 in the FedEx Cup standings, stands a good chance of being among the top 100 players to advance to the second playoff event next week outside Boston. ...Greg Chalmers made a hole-in-one on the 135-yard 14th, with the Statue of Liberty in view to the right. England need to be smarter with the bat as they continue to grow as a limited-overs side, says Nasser Hussain. Eoin Morgans side posted just 134-8 at in the first T20I against South Africa at Newlands, despite being positioned handsomely on 52-1 in the seventh over of their innings. The Proteas only secured victory off the final ball of the match when Reece Topley fumbled a run-out opportunity, but Hussain insists the seamers error was not the reason for Englands defeat, which followed a 3-2 loss in the preceding ODI series. Watch as Reece Topley had an easy stumping to win the first T20 for England Topley will be absolutely distraught - but it wasnt his fault England lost that game, Hussain told Sky Sports, after the tourists shipped five wickets for 29 runs in the middle overs. The damage was done a lot earlier.England are little gung-ho with the bat at the moment - in the last three or four games of white-ball cricket they have not worked out what a good score is.I think you have to give them a little bit of leeway, tell them to continue with this free spirit for a while, and hope they realise they have to be a bit smarter.[Captain] Eoin Morgan and [coach] Trevor Bayliss are very rarely critical of Englands batting as they dont want any doubts about whether what they are doing is the right thing and dont want the players to worry about the stats heading into the World T20. We hear from Eoin Morgan, Faf du Plessis and Imran Tahir after South Africas win Hussain, though, saluted Englands bowlers for the way they set about trying to defend 134, including Ben Stokes, who took 1-19 in the middle overs and Chris Jordan, who returned career-best figures of 3-23.The bowling was brilliant, added the former England skipper. Topley bowled well at the start, Stokes was magnificent when the game was going away from them and Jordan, who was lifted by Stokes, proved why he is in the side with his yorkers. Ben Stokes dismissed Hashim Amla during an excellent bowling performance The spinners, Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid, were excellent and the attitude in the field was outstanding, so they deserved Topley to get that stumping chance at the end.England were in a game they should never have been in - South Africa captain Faf du Plessis says his team dodged a bullet - but they messed it up in the last nine or 10 deliveries. Will England level the series in Johannesburg on Sunday?
