HOUSTON -- Giles Barnes and Boniek Garcia scored two goals apiece to lead the Houston Dynamo to a 5-1 victory over Chivas USA on Saturday night. Martin Havlat Jersey. Barnes recorded his second two-goal game of the season, and Garcia scored his first goals this year to give Houston (12-10-7) back-to-back wins for the first time since July 6 and 13. Will Bruin also scored for Houston. Eric Avila scored for Chivas (6-16-8), which is winless in 13 straight road games (0-11-2). The Dynamo recorded their season high in goals to solidify their hold on fourth place in the East two points behind third-place Montreal. Chivas USA was officially eliminated last weekend. Houston dominated the first half, and Barnes teamed up with Brad Davis on the Dynamos fifth corner kick of the half. Davis bent a perfect kick to the top of the penalty area, and Barnes jumped above the Chivas defence. Barnes flicked Davis feed down and into the net past Chivas goalie Dan Kennedy. Avila levelled the score in the 50th minute when he headed a rebound past Hall. Carlos Alvarez took the first shot, but it bounced off the near post and went right to Avila, who scored easily. The Dynamo responded four minutes later with Barnes second of the match. Ricardo Clark fed Barnes, who ran toward the net and drew Kennedy away from the post. Barnes slipped his shot into the net for his eighth goal of the season. Bruin made it 3-1 in the 63rd minute and Garcia scored in the 80th and 90th minutes -- with the second coming on a penalty kick. The Dynamo has never lost to Chivas USA at home, improving to 8-0-2 and outscoring them 21-3 overall. Houston improved to 11-0-3 when scoring first; Chivas fell to 1-12-2 when allowing the first goal of the game. Frans Nielsen Jersey . -- Eastern Kentucky thrives off creating havoc for others. Dylan Larkin Jersey . Now, correct me if Im wrong but I saw one official distinctly pointing at the net indicating a good goal but after an inconclusive review they overturned the goal.  Shouldnt the ruling on the ice (good goal) stand after an inconclusive review?  Why was this overturned?  James Veaudry Pembroke, ON --  Hey Kerry, Youll get a lot of these, but why was the Montreal goal against Nashville Saturday night overturned? Eller puts the puck on net and the on ice ruling from the ref behind the net is a Montreal goal. http:///...hris-Chelios-Jersey/ . The Montreal Canadiens announced on Friday that the veteran forward will return to the teams line-up on Saturday night when the Habs visit the Nashville Predators. The Montreal Canadiens landed a veteran scoring forward with playoff experience, who had been bought out of his previous contract. Numbers Game looks at the Canadiens acquisition of Danny Briere. The Canadiens Get: RW Danny Briere. Briere, 35, has been a very productive player, scoring at least 24 goals in eight of his 13-plus NHL seasons, but hes coming off a season in which he had 16 points and was minus-13, with subpar possession numbers, in 34 games, prompting the Flyers to buy out the final two years of his contract. Wrist and concussion injuries cost Briere 14 games last season and he missed a dozen the year before for a variety of reasons, including another concussion, so there are naturally health concerns for a smaller forward who is in his mid-30s. He also played 16:04 per game last season, his lowest time on ice per game since 2001-2002 so, coupled with his career-low scoring rate (0.47 ppg), there is ample evidence that Briere is on the decline. What the Canadiens can hope for is that Briere can have his minutes focused on the offensive end and remain a productive power play contributtor -- he scored 102 of his 283 over six seasons in Philadelphia with the man advantage -- so that he is a viable source of secondary scoring. Brent Seabrook Jersey. Briere has also been a sensational playoff performer, tallying 109 points in 108 career playoff games, ranking sixth among active skaters in playoff points per game (and the top five arent available). Signed to a two-year deal for $8-million, Briere will play in a scoring role for the Canadiens, but expectations have to be kept in check. Once a player starts to decline in his mid-30s, its rare that they recapture previous form, so either the Canadiens will have to hope Briere is an exception, perhaps able to bounce back with a full NHL training camp and season (as opposed to the lockhout-shortened variety) or they are prepared for him to effectively be a specialist, providing secondary offence and just waiting for the playoffs to make a real difference over the next two years.
