EDMONTON -- It appears the Edmonton Oilers have another weapon to add to their already potent arsenal. Jose Cruz Jersey . David Perron scored a goal and added an assist on Saturday as the Edmonton Oilers came away with a 5-2 exhibition victory over the Vancouver Canucks. The 25-year-old from Sherbrooke, Que., upped his pre-season totals to three goals and four points in his first three games with the Oilers since coming in an off-season trade with St. Louis for fellow forward Magnus Paajarvi. Perron was pleased when he first learned of the trade because he would be leaving a strict defensive system with the Blues and joining the likes of Taylor Hall, Jordan Eberle and Nail Yakupov in a more free-wheeling system with the Oilers. That feeling hasnt changed since he officially arrived in Edmonton. "Im even more excited now," said Perron. "Im trying to do my best to be a factor on both sides of the puck and produce every night. Hopefully I can keep improving. This is just the start. "Its nice to be coming to a team that is a little more offensive oriented. It is not like St. Louis wasnt trying to score, but it was pretty evident that they are a defence-first hockey team." Oilers head coach Dallas Eakins believes his club could have a gem in Perron. "I think we have a lot there," said Eakins.. "He can score, he competes hard and hes not afraid to get his nose dirty. Weve let him loose on the penalty kill a little bit. I think we have a very well-rounded player and another guy who is excited to play hockey. He really likes to play the game and thats important." Sam Gagner, Ryan Smyth, Yakupov and Will Acton also scored for the Oilers (3-1-1). Mike Santorelli and Jannik Hansen replied for the Canucks (0-3-0). The Canucks got on the board with the games first shot 1:20 into the first as Santorelli snuck the puck through the pads of Oilers starting goalie Jason LaBarbera. Edmonton had a full two minute five-on-three power play seven minutes into the opening period after a head shot on Hall, but were unable to get a puck past Vancouver goalie Eddie Lack. The Oilers tied the game on the power play with seven minutes left in the first as Perron sent a pass through the crease, giving Gagner an easy tap-in to an open net. Edmonton went up 2-1 four minutes into the second period with a short-handed goal from Perron, who picked up a rebound and sent a backhander in for his third of the pre-season. The Canucks lost centre Jordan Schroeder midway through the second as he had to be helped off the ice favouring his left leg after blocking a shot. Gagner also left the game late in the second after taking a Zack Kassian stick in the face and losing several teeth and did not return. The game stayed 2-1 until 15:58 of the third period when a puck deflected to Smyth at the doorstep and he shovelled it past Lack for a two-goal lead. Less than a minute later the Canucks responded as Hansen picked the corner on Oilers backup Tyler Rimmer to make it 3-2. Edmonton put the game away shortly afterwards, however, as Yakupov beat Lack with a quick wrist shot and Acton scored into an empty net. Notes: It was the second consecutive pre-season game between the two teams. Edmonton won the first contest 4-1 in Vancouver on Wednesday. The Oilers and Canucks will next meet in regular season play on Oct. 5 in Vancouver. Winger David Booth was expected to make his first appearance in a Canucks game since March 16th, but left the morning skate after just five minutes with what was described as groin stiffness. Chris Higgins, Alex Edler and Schroeder made their pre-season debuts for Vancouver... Neither Daniel or Henrik Sedin made the trip to Edmonton. Defenceman Anton Belov made his Oilers debut after arriving at training camp a few days late due to visa problems. The Raiders are hoping the element of surprise will be enough to overcome those hurdles. Coach Dennis Allen is refusing to name his starting quarterback for "competitive" reasons even though all signs point to Terrelle Pryor getting that call over Matt Flynn on Sunday in Indianapolis. "Im preparing like I always do, like I will be the starter," Pryor said Wednesday. The San Francisco Chronicle and NFL.com reported Monday that Pryor would start. He has opened practice with the first-team offence this week and has been getting plenty of work with the starters in a clear sign that he will be the No. 1 quarterback Sunday. But Allen wants to wait until Sunday to make an official announcement in hopes of making the Colts prepare for two possible quarterbacks. "Whether it gives us an advantage or not, well see," Allen said. "Were preparing to play the Indianapolis Colts. Well have a plan in place and our guys are ready to go." Indianapolis is set at quarterback with Andrew Luck ready to begin his second season under centre. Colts coach Chuck Pagano said he has had to prepare to face two quarterbacks before and acknowledges it is easier when a defence is able to spend the week focusing on just one. "You deal with it and you get the plays in that you feel like youre going to see," he said on a conference call. "We know that both guys are capable and we know both guys can beat you. Well do our due diligence throughout the week in preparation for the game and prepare to face whoever lines up under centre." Flynn was brought in during the off-season to be the starter after Oakland dealt a 2014 fifth-round pick and a conditional 2015 pick to Seattle. The Raiders also reworked Flynns contract, giving him $6.5 million guaranteed. The Seahawks had targeted Flynn to be their starter the previous season when they gave him a $26 million contract based mostly on two strong starts in Green Bay, but he was beaten out for the job by rookie Russell Wilson and was deemed expendable. Flynn opened training camp getting almost all thhe work with the first-team offence but he struggled in the preseason games. Jason Castro Astros Jersey. In 13 drives, Flynn committed three turnovers and led the Raiders to just two scores. He was also sacked seven times and struggled to get the ball downfield with more than two-thirds of his passes travelling less than 10 yards. Flynn sat out the last week of the exhibition season with a sore right elbow but has been back at practice this week and Allen said the elbow is not a factor. Pryor has been much more effective this preseason, albeit playing more of his time against second-team defenders than Flynn did as the starter the first three games. The Raiders scored 32 points on Pryors 14 drives as his scrambling ability and athleticism in the read-option gave the Raiders struggling offence a needed added dimension. "Its hard to stop a guy that has a mind of getting better every day," Pryor said. "People keep hearing me say that and I dont know if they take me serious. Im serious." Pryor has just one career start and has thrown only 30 passes in his first two seasons in the NFL. But he accounted for three touchdowns in the season finale against San Diego and is a much more polished passer than he was when he came out of Ohio State two years ago. "I see a little more confidence in him throwing it," said Raiders cornerback Chimdi Chekwa, a teammate of Pryors on the Buckeyes. "When he was in college, sometimes hed make great throws and sometimes youd be like, Why did the ball go like that? The difference is hes confident on every play. He makes a read and lets the ball go. Thats the biggest difference." Whoever ends up starting on Sunday will be the eighth different starter in the last 10 season openers for Oakland. Only Jason Campbell and JaMarcus Russell have started two openers since 2004, with the only win coming when Campbell helped beat Denver in 2011. NOTES: LT Menelik Watson tweaked his knee during practice and was limited. If he is unable to play, Khalif Barnes would move over to the right side and newly signed Tony Pashos would start. ... TE David Ausberry did not practice with a shoulder injury. ... K Sebastian Janikowski sat out with an injured right calf but is expected to play Sunday. Wholesale Jerseys China ' ' '
