MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. Antonio Valencia Jersey . -- Ohio States Urban Meyer has never had any issue acclimating to the biggest stages in college football. Clemsons Dabo Swinney is sounding like someone whos getting comfortable under the brightest lights as well. Meyer has coached in four previous BCS games. Hes never lost. Swinney has taken his team to the BCS one other time, and lost by 37 points. Of course, come Friday night, none of that will matter. The seventh-ranked Buckeyes (12-1) and the 12th-ranked Tigers (10-2) will be squaring off in the Orange Bowl, where Meyer will aim to keep his BCS record perfect and Swinney will try to have his team, as he put it, "continue to climb the mountain." "When you have an opportunity to come to a BCS ball game and lose it, you want to get back and have another opportunity," Swinney said Thursday. "Theres only six teams, I think, in the country that have been in two BCS bowls the last three years, and were one of them. So its a great opportunity for us to have a chance to win one." Meyer would say the same thing. His team had visions of playing in Pasadena, Calif. for the BCS national championship next week, but the loss in the Big Ten title game -- the first under Meyer in 25 games since he took over in Columbus -- knocked the Buckeyes out of the title picture. So instead, Ohio State headed to South Florida, where Meyer will look to add the Orange Bowl to his BCS collection that already includes two title-game wins and a Sugar Bowl victory while at Florida, and a Fiesta Bowl triumph from when he coached Utah. "Its a chance to go compete," Meyer said. "Whether its checkers or ping pong, were going to try to win the game. Our job every time we keep score is to win. Its the mentality we try to create within our program. Whether its the Orange Bowl, whether its the eighth game of the season, were trying to win the game." Clemson lost the Orange Bowl two years ago to West Virginia, 70-33 -- the game turning when the Tigers fumbled the ball away in the second quarter, on a play where they would have taken the lead. Instead, the floodgates opened. The Tigers are 21-4 since. "This team has more than responded," Swinney said. ------ Heres five things to watch in the Orange Bowl: THE QB BATTLE: Tickets to the Orange Bowl arent inexpensive, but the shows that Clemson quarterback Tajh Boyd and Ohio State quarterback Braxton Miller can put on may make the admission price seem like a bargain. Boyd has accounted for 38 touchdowns this season; Miller has scored 32 with either his arm or his feet. Its Boyds finale; it may be Millers as well if he elects to go pro, as some expect he may. BUCKEYE D: If theres a weakness on a team thats 24-1 in the past two seasons, it may be Ohio States pass defence. Each of the Buckeyes last four opponents have completed at least 60 per cent of their passes, throwing for 1,363 yards in that stretch. And with that side of the ball dealing with some injury concerns for the Orange Bowl, its clearly to Clemsons advantage. RUN (AND) HYDE: Ohio State RB Carlos Hyde has 1,408 yards in 10 games this season, and says hed like to cap his college career by setting the Orange Bowl record for yards in a game. Hyde has averaged 7.7 yards per carry; Clemsons defence has yielded 3.7 per attempt. Hyde is the first running back to top 1,000 yards under Meyer, and is 116 yards away from fifth all-time on Ohio States list. WELCOME HOME: The Buckeyes and Tigers both recruit the Sunshine State heavily. Together, the teams have 13 players from the state, including six starters. Among the notables: Clemson WR Sammy Watkins (who may be playing his college finale), Clemson DB Jayron Kearse; Ohio State top tackler Ryan Shazier; Hyde, the Ohio State running back; and Ohio State DL Joey Bosa, who hails from Fort Lauderdale, Fla. and the powerhouse St. Thomas Aquinas program. KICKERS: If the game comes down to a kick, odds are that either Clemsons Chandler Catanzaro or Ohio States Drew Basil will deliver. Catanzaro has made all 56 of his extra-point tries and is 13 of 14 on field-goal attempts. Basil is 74 for 75 on extra-points and 9 for 10 on field goals. Custom Manchester Jersey . The 18th player to shoot 60 on the tour, Jamieson settled for par on the final hole when his 15-foot birdie chip grazed the edge of the hole and stayed out. After opening with rounds of 66 and 73 to make the cut by a stroke, he had 11 birdies in the bogey-free round. David Beckham Jersey . The 19-year-old Olsen played 34 games with the Kelowna Rockets of the WHL this season. In that time, hes recorded 17 goals and 17 assists with 36 penalty minutes. http:///...nited-fc-jersey.aspx . LOUIS -- Valtteri Filppula assisted on three of Tampa Bays four goals, and the Lightning beat the St.Got a question on rule clarification, comments on rule enforcements or some memorable NHL stories? Kerry wants to answer your emails at cmonref@tsn.ca. Hi Kerry, In Wednesdays game between the Colorado Avalanche and the Ottawa Senators, Jan Hejda sent the puck into the crowd and was assessed a two-minute minor penalty. Already down a man, Colorado faced a considerably long two-man disadvantage which eventually led to two Ottawa goals. When looking back at the tape, the puck seemed to touch a teammates gloves on the way to the crowd. Would this still be considered as a delay of game although there had been a deflection? Thanks a lot,Patrick Scott --- Hello, Mr. Fraser and Happy New Year, I was wondering if you could explain the thinking on the delay of game call against Jan Hejda in the second period of the Sens at Avs game. Was it a missed call with the puck going off Max Talbots stick and into the stands or is that part of the rule? Obviously the replay does not come into play (since it was not reviewed), correct? Thanks for any info and for all you have done for the game. Scott Graves Patrick and Scott: Rule 63.2 is very clear that a minor penalty for delay of game is only imposed when any player, with both of his skates inside his defending zone, shoot or bats (using his hand or his stick) the puck directly (non-deflected) out of the playing surface, except where there is no glass. Once the end zone clearing shot by Avs defenceman Jan Hejda deflected off the glove/stick of teammate Max Talbot and over the glass no penalty should have been assessed! To be clear on the application of this rule, the same non-call should result even if the puck ticked or deflected off the top of the glass and then into the stands. This missed call from the game last night in Colorado provided Ottawa with a significant two-man advantage and resulted in two power play goals being scored by the Sens. I must tell you this can be a very tough call for even four officials on the ice to catch, unless the puck significantly changes direction to indicate a deflection has taken place. If a ref becomes a puck watcher (zeroing in on the constant movements of the puck) he tends to miss infractions elsewhere. Thats not a good thing! More importantly, the ref needs to have his head on a swivel and make constant adjustments in visual focus to determine potentiial fouls in hot-spot locations. Luke Shaw Jersey. In a game of constant motion thats determined by recognizing the proximity opponents have to one another at all times when play is in progress and sometimes when its not. For example, if an attacker was in close proximity to Jan Hejda and finished a check or made an attempted stick-check on the Avalanche player, the ref might miss a foul if he immediately watched the path of the puck once it was released off Hejdas stick. It can also be difficult to follow the flight of the puck once it elevates above the white boards and is lost in the dark clothing worn by fans. A black puck on black equipment (glove) can also be difficult to detect in real-time unless an obvious redirect takes place. While Im not making excuses for missed calls, I want you understand the degree of difficulty in getting this call right 100 per cent of the time. We keep a tally board throughout the playoffs at TSN on various infractions and "puck over glass" usually tops the list. Often those infractions are committed at the worst time; either when a team is already a man short or in the late stages of a game or overtime. Circumstances such as these only magnify the demand for the Officials to get the call right is. Its also easy for the hockey world to microscope the eventual call through video replay which the officials have no advantage of. Beyond just maintaining the status quo I see a couple of possible options for your consideration. Some suggest throwing the rule out completely and only penalize a player when the referee deems the puck was "deliberately" shot over the glass. I am totally against this option because of the huge inconsistency in the standard of enforcement that would be created. Score and time remaining in the game would ultimately be factored into the refs decision. We dont need more of that old-school philosophy, but less of it! I believe the better option is to allow some sort of review or better yet a coachs challenge when the puck is shot over the glass that ultimately results in an error being made by the officiating crew. I would also like to see interference on the goalkeeper become a reviewable offense; particularly when a goal has resulted. Both of these calls have proven to be very difficult for the Officials to make in real-time and can be game-breakers.
