Corey Peters hated watching from the sideline as the Cardinals embarked on their thrilling 2015 season, and he felt some dreaded déjà vu on <a href="http://www.hl-sapporo.com/brenton-bersin-jersey-c-1_4.html">http://www.hl-sapporo.com/brenton-bersin-jersey-c-1_4.html</a> a walk to the training room Tuesday.

The Cardinals’ nose tackle missed all of last season with a torn Achilles suffered in training camp, and everyone held their breath again as he limped off the practice field after injuring the same foot during a pass-rushing drill. But it was good news for Peters on Thursday, when it was learned he has plantar fasciitis and not another serious injury.

“I freaked out for a second, that being the same leg as the Achilles, but it really has nothing to do with that,” said Peters, who expects to miss between two days and two weeks. “It’s just something minor. We’ll work through it and hopefully get back pretty soon.”

Peters is in the second season of a three-year, $9.15 million contract and hopes to be an important piece on the defensive line. The Cardinals like his ability to both stop the run and attack the quarterback.

Peters felt good about his performance thus far in camp and is anxious to get back on the field.

“Physically, (I was) back to 100 percent, just a little bit of rust still,” Peters said. “I’d like to get back out there in the meat of camp <a href="http://www.hssmstore.com/brenton-bersin-jersey-c-1_5.html">http://www.hssmstore.com/brenton-bersin-jersey-c-1_5.html</a> and really get some of those good run-stopping reps, that type of thing.  I think we’ll have time to do that.”

TIME FOR BARKLEY, COKER TO SHINE

Carson Palmer and Drew Stanton have each had a veteran’s day off recently, which has given Matt Barkley and Jake Coker more work. They are competing for the third quarterback spot – if the Cardinals keep three – and the extra practice is critical.

“That’s their day,” coach Bruce Arians said. “Those are important reps, whenever Drew and Carson have their off day, for them to get twice the number of reps. And what do you do with them? I thought both kids, I was very pleased with both of them. Especially Matt. I thought he had some really good reads. Showed me that he has made some progress in that area. Still missed a couple of hot (reads on blitzes) but he threw the ball well.”

COACH OF THE YEAR AGAIN?

Arians has been pegged as one of the favorites to win NFL Coach of the Year in 2016. He captured the honor in 2012 by compiling a 9-3 record and leading the Colts to the playoffs as interim coach while Chuck Pagano battled leukemia.

Arians won it again with the Cardinals in 2014 when they went 11-5 despite using backup quarterbacks for all but six games. Arians was asked what a third Coach of the Year honor would mean to him.

“Not half as much as a Super Bowl,” Arians said. “It’s an honor, obviously, especially when it comes from people you respect. But it’s not something you go out looking for. It’s because your team had success. Like we always say, when the <a href="http://www.ky-oo32.com/kurt-coleman-jersey-c-1_10.html">Kurt Coleman Youth Jersey</a> team has success, there’s enough accolades for everybody.”

GOOD NEWS FOR ALANI FUA

Like Peters, inside linebacker Alani Fua (knee) breathed a sigh of relief when his injury results came back. The training staff feared a torn meniscus, but Fua said there is only loose cartilage in his knee that will sideline him four or five days.

Fua made the team as an undrafted free agent out of BYU a year ago and has a good chance of doing so again. He’s relieved because a serious ailment could have jeopardized his shot.

“Any time you get injured, being undrafted, it’s kind of scary,” Fua said.

Guard Evan Mathis (leg) and tight end Jermaine Gresham (hamstring) returned to practice Thursday. Wide receiver John Brown (head) remains out as he continues through the concussion protocol, while cornerback Mike Jenkins (hand) and wideout J.J. Nelson (groin) also sat. Wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald had a veteran’s day off.

Arians said safety Tyrann Mathieu (knee) and defensive tackle Frostee Rucker (ankle) are about two weeks away from practicing, while defensive tackle Robert Nkemdiche (ankle), cornerback Elie Bouka (hamstring) and cornerback Justin Bethel (foot) could be back sooner than that. As usual, the recovery time is fluid.

“That’s the thing with trainers,” Arians said. “We got here eight days ago and it was three weeks. It’s still three weeks to them. One of them went by. I’m saying two now.”

CARDINALS SIGN VETERAN CORNERBACK

Cornerback Alan Ball worked out for the team Thursday afternoon and was signed to a contract. He is a nine-year veteran who has <a href="http://www.ochomesnloans.com/jonathan-stewart-jersey-c-1_16.html">Jonathan Stewart Jersey</a> played for the Cowboys, Texans, Jaguars and Bears. The Cardinals released safety Tyrequek Zimmerman in a corresponding move.

CHENNAI, India -- Stanislas Wawrinka and Edouard Roger-Vasselin registered hard-fought wins to set up the final of the Chennai Open on Saturday. John Gibson Ducks Jersey . Top-seeded Wawrinka saw a resurgent Vasek Pospisil of Canada concede their semifinal at 6-4, 5-5 due to a back strain while Frenchman Roger-Vasselin sweated it out against Spanish player Marcel Granollers for a 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 victory. The eighth-ranked Wawrinka was surprised when Pospisil, the fifth seed from Vancouver, withdrew just after he had struck rhythm following some unforced errors at crucial junctures. Wawrinka, the only top-10 player in the fray, won the first set as he went a break up in the fifth game when Pospisil made two errors and double-faulted two times. The script seemed to be following similar lines in the second set as the Swiss managed a break in the seventh game with Pospisil double-faulting twice. But Pospisil broke back for 4-4 but lasted only a few more points. "It was a really tough match and I felt sorry for him because he was playing very well," Wawrinka said. "My focus is to be aggressive. Im playing my best tennis since last year and I think itll be a good final against Edouard, who is a good friend." Wawrinka and Roger-Vasselin are 1-1 from previous matchups. Wawrinka will be playing for his fifth ATP title, and second in Chennai after victory in 2012. Seventh-seeded Roger-Vasselin seeks his maiden ATP title. In his semi, Roger-Vasselin made the only break of the first set in the sixth game and faced stiff resistance thereafter. Granollers went a break up in the third game of the second set and held on, and the decider was also tight. Granollers broke in the first game but failed to hold his serve in the fourth after warding off four break points. Roger-Vasselin seized the initiative with some surprise forays to the net, breaking serve in the sixth game to go 4-2 up in what was to be a decisive lead. Roger-Vasselin expressed relief after the two-hour encounter against his sixth-seeded opponent. "Its great to make the final," he said. "It was a long, tough match both mentally and physically. Hertl scored his first two NHL goals and the San Jose Sharks beat the Phoenix Coyotes 4-1 on Saturday night. "I dont know, its crazy and to win, Im very happy," said the 19-year-old Hertl said. Patrick Marleau and Logan Couture also scored for the Sharks, who were able to convert two power plays after not scoring on the man advantage against the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday. "I think its great, you can see how hes having fun with it and hes smiling so much," Marleau said of Hertl. "He brings a lot of energy to us and its fun to see." Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored for the Coyotes, who won their opener at home on Thursday. "We stopped making plays and we couldnt get out of our own zone," Coyotes captain Shane Doan said. "Their forwards were too quick and we stopped playing hockey. We have to be better than that. We let them have the extra opportunities a lot." Antti Niemi stopped 22 shots for the victory. Mike Smith made 47 saves for Phoenix. "The score would have been a lot worse if he didnt play like that," Phoenix coach Dave Tippett said. Smith allowed all three goals in the first 13 minutes before blanking the Sharks the rest of the way. "When you give up 50 shots youre going to be hard pressed to win a game on any given night," Smith said. "I kept telling myself to make as many saves as I could because I felt we were coming back." Hertl scored his first goal 46 seconds into the game, backhanding the puck through Smiths legs after being set up in front of the net by Marc-Edouard p;Vlasic. Jonathan Bernier Ducks Jersey. "When you put up 50 shots you get rewarded," Vlasic said. "Its good to beat that team, theyre tough." Hertl, who had an assist in the season opener, chest-bumped the glass to celebrate before he was joined by his teammates. The Sharks made it 2-0 at 7:23 of the first period with their first power-play goal. Hertl redirected Matt Irwins shot past Smith. Tyler Kennedy set up the score when he won the faceoff and Brent Burns kept it alive. "He had his number," Sharks captain Joe Thornton said. "The first one was beautiful and the second one he was in the right position. Another good game for Tomas. You know hes a world-class goaltender and you have to make your shots count." Marleau scored his second goal of the season, also on the power play, at 12:30 of the first. Joe Pavelskis shot bounced off Smiths pad and Vlasic was in position to give Marleau an open net. Phoenix scored at 16:47 of the second period. Ekman-Larsson picked up the puck from Zbynek Michalek in his own zone and carried it all the way, taking a quick shot from the right that glanced into the net off Niemis right glove. Couture added an empty-net goal in the final 25 seconds. The Sharks have beaten Phoenix in 10 of the past 12 meetings in San Jose. In the past two years, the University Police Department has hired five new officers Michael Aleman, Jason Dean, Madison <a href="http://www.ochomesnloans.com/daryl-worley-jersey-c-1_25.html">http://www.ochomesnloans.com/daryl-worley-jersey-c-1_25.html</a> Morse, Earl Thomas III and Douglas Windham.

Some of the officers are new to law enforcement, such as Aleman who has been in law enforcement for three months.

“I chose to go into law enforcement because I have always had a drive to serve other people,” said Aleman. “I believe that law enforcement is the best way to help my community. I chose to join UPD because I am already familiar with the campus and enjoyed the environment surrounding it. Honestly, it feels great. I am excited for the opportunity to protect and serve.”

Other newly hired officers have more experience such as Dean, who has been in law enforcement for almost 11 years. He wants to be a positive example in the community and show people that officers can be approachable.

“I was told that it was a great place to work with great people,” said Dean about UPD. “I hope to make the people on campus feel <a href="http://www.yadeos.com/derek-anderson-jersey-c-1_26.html">http://www.yadeos.com/derek-anderson-jersey-c-1_26.html</a> they can walk up and have a normal conversation with a police officer. Many people think the only time a police officer wants to talk there is something wrong and that could be so far from the truth. We are people too.”

Morse chose this path after being raised around law enforcement.

“Law enforcement is in my blood, most of my family has been involved in LE in some way,” said Morse. “I personally sought after this path to actively be a part of my community. I am very excited to be a part of the UPD. The department works hard to keep the campus safe. To be a part of the work they do, is an honor.”

Thomas, however, decided to join after being helped by police officers.

“I decided to become a police officer after experiencing a major life incident where the police were able to comfort me,” said Thomas. “That day I decided I would like to become an officer so I may one day comfort someone else. One of my primary goals as an officer is to improve the relationship between the SLU community and the University Police Department. I want students, guests and staff members to know that not all police officers are mean. We like to laugh and joke around like everyone else. I also want everyone to know that officers are approachable and just because we’re around doesn’t mean <a href="http://www.00fenrir.com/wholesale-nfl-san-francisco-49ers-cheap-jerry-rice-jerseys.html">Jerry Rice Youth Jersey</a> someone is in trouble.”

Windham, who has been in law enforcement for five years, decided to join law enforcement after serving in the military.

“My children are what inspire me as an officer,” said Windham. “To provide for them a better world to live in than what I had growing up. To instill in them not only to follow the law, but to be a part of the community around them. More importantly, to trust in God, who will guide them. I chose UPD because I have a son that goes to school here at Southeastern. Also, my wife and I have fallen in love with Hammond and the people here.”

These officers wish for people to know that they are approachable, but they also work to keep the campus community safe.

“The best part about being a police officer is knowing I can help make a difference in somebody’s life,” said Thomas. “As a University Police Officer, I’m able to help educate and protect the community I serve. One <a href="http://www.dusenadup.com/vernon-butler-jersey-c-1_17.html">Vernon Butler Youth Jersey</a> of my most memorable moments working for the University Police is being the officer that recovered a missing 9-year-old SLU Lab School student.”

oday at about 10am the artist Nic Fiddian?Green will complete the installation of his latest monumental sculpture at Ascot. Fire – the name of the sculpture, not actual flames, though we’ll come on to those – will stand 25ft tall and sit opposite the Royal Box for the duration of the racecourse’s Royal Meeting which starts next Tuesday and, confusingly, lasts for five days. Nic Fiddian-Green grooms his giant horse sculpture for Goodwood View gallery The success of Fiddian-Green’s enormous horse heads, the most famous of which dives nose-down at Marble Arch in London but which have also been spotted at Goodwood, Glyndebourne and across the horsey world, demonstrate the enduring popularity for taking popular sporting figures – and, clearly, creatures – significantly increasing their size and casting them in bronze. Over the past year at Newmarket AP McCoy unveiled a statue of himself and the Queen one of herself (and a horse), Fulham erected a statue of George Cohen, Newcastle http://www.rangersteamonline.com/Chris_Kreider_Jersey ne of Alan Shearer and Wigan one of Dave Whelan. Meanwhile Leigh unveiled one of John Woods, Peterborough have one in the works of Chris Turner, Barcelona have announced plans for a Johan Cruyff, Watford are working on a Graham Taylor, Everton are proposing a Howard Kendall, Colin Harvey and Alan Ball trifecta, while in foreign news Alexis Sánchez unveiled a colourful statue of himself in his hometown, Tocopilla, and a bust of a strange smirking caricature of Cristiano Ronaldo was installed in his native Madeira. It is true that Britain continues to create statues of non-sporting inspirations – the past year, for example, has seen major public works commissioned or completed of Henry VII, Victoria Wood and an otter – and also that this is not exactly a new trend. Many Ancient Greeks, after all, could hardly walk past a chunk of marble without sculpting it into a scantily clad discus-thrower. But it was more understandable then, when making a representation of an athlete out of mosaic or masonry was the closest thing they had to an instant replay. Omri Amrany’s statue of Walter Johnson Facebook Twitter Pinterest The family of Washington Senators pitcher Walter Johnson boycotted the unveiling of Omri Amrany’s statue, which features a motion-blurred right arm. Johnson’s grandson called it ‘hideous’ and ‘ridiculous’. Photograph: Diamond Images/Getty Images For all that both bronze and marble are materials already associated with sport, through Jake Muzzin Womens Jersey the Olympics’ least-important medal and the game played using spherical glass objects respectively, they are two media which in their solidity and permanence seem entirely antithetical to activity. In football, and indeed most sports, being considered statuesque is an insult, yet being rendered statuesque is an honour. It is far better for an individual to be labelled quicksilver or mercurial, or for a team to be in full flow; the phrase “liquid football” might have been coined by Alan Partridge, but it is a perfectly serious aspiration. This whole sporting statue business simply hasn’t been thought through. Geoffrey Green of the Times once asked Matt Busby how he went about building a football team. Busby smiled and said: “A sculptor was once asked how he managed to turn a square slab of stone into, say, an elephant. He said: ‘Easy. I just knock off the bits that don’t look like an elephant.’” So it is that the only similarity between team sports and sculpting seems entirely philosophical. Sport is the most ephemeral of activities. Its finest moments are conjured, savoured and lost in the same instant. They live on only in the memory of those who witnessed them, where they generate a spirit of their own, foggily recalled whirlpools of emotion and incredulity. This is why, while it may be an acceptable way to honour a particularly generous chairman or successful manager, sculpture is the clumsiest and most jarring possible method of remembering a sportsman. What is beautiful when fluent and ephemeral is clumsy when made immobile and http://www.officialhurricanesproshop.com/Jaccob_Slavin_Jerseyhard-edged. Some sculptors, to their credit, have realised this and – often less creditably – tried to do something about it. Omri Amrany, a “mostly self?taught” US-based artist who has specialised in commemorative sporting statues, says he likes to “work with new approaches, like fractal geometry and my own techniques of sculptural montage”, by which he means trying to capture motion in metal. Who are the footballers celebrated in these statues? – quiz Read more Representations of Gordie Howe and Alex Delvecchio made for the Detroit Red Wings both have multiple excess limbs and hockey sticks and appear to be being agonisingly sucked into a space vortex; for a statue of the Arizona Cardinals’ Pat Tillman he gamely attempted to create in bronze the impression of flowing hair on a sprinting athlete and succeeded in making the player look like he was fleeing a burning building with his head on fire. Most famously, the family of the Washington Senators pitcher Walter Johnson boycotted the unveiling of his statue in horror at his motion-blurred mutant right arm. Johnson’s grandson called it “hideous” and “ridiculous”. He said: “It just doesn’t work. Those big pieces of matter coming out of Walter’s shoulder look like driftwood. I really object to it. Something is really wrong.” (“This is not just about sports; it’s about art,” countered Amrany.) Amrany’s version of Josh Gibson is a little more successful, but there are still better ways for artists to recall the spirit of sportsmen. Another creative type, Daniel Sonenberg, clearly thought so: his opera about Gibson – The Summer King – premiered in Pittsburgh in April (“a serious, thought-provoking piece, musically sound and emotionally musing” according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette), and Authentic Kyle Seager Youth Jersey surely had a better chance of capturing the essence of the brilliant black batter who died, drunk and drug-addled, aged 35 in 1947There are other options, some of them very simple. A young Arsenal fan will surely find more inspiration from tapping Thierry Henry’s name into YouTube than from his superficially impressive but emotionally vacant statue of the Frenchman’s celebratory knee-slide outside the Emirates Stadium. Perhaps it’s time for sport to think outside the blocks. There will always be a place for statuary, but its use – like most sportsmen – shouldn’t be set in stone. ? The fact that former 49ers wide <a href="http://www.dusenadup.com/paul-soliai-jersey-c-1_28.html">http://www.dusenadup.com/paul-soliai-jersey-c-1_28.html</a> receiver Dwight Clark played nine seasons in the NFL and has been diagnosed with ALS could raise eyebrows in the medical community.

However, unlike many of the ex-football players who share his diagnosis, Clark’s age does not hint at the possibility his condition is connected to head trauma. Instead, Clark, 60, is among the majority of those with ALS who are diagnosed later in life.

“In terms of (Clark’s) age, around 60 to 70 is a textbook age where you would expect to make a diagnosis,” said Dr. Dr. Ilan Danan, a sports neurologist at Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles. “When you start to see it in patients, particularly athletes, that are in their 30s and 40s, that’s where it becomes much, much <a href="http://www.hl-sapporo.com/daryl-worley-jersey-c-1_15.html">http://www.hl-sapporo.com/daryl-worley-jersey-c-1_15.html</a> more alarming. That is certainly not the norm.”

As noted in this Chronicle story, the link between head trauma and ALS remains controversial in the medical community. However, the number of former NFL players who have been diagnosed at a relatively young age has strengthened the belief there could be a cause-and-effect relationship.

Former Saints safety Steve Gleason, 40, announced he had ALS in 2011. Raiders running back Steve Smith, 52, was diagnosed in 2002; linebacker O.J. Brigance, 47, was diagnosed in 2007 and safety Orlando Thomas, who died at 42 in 2014, announced he had ALS in 2007.

Gleason announced he had ALS less than four years after his final NFL game.

“When you think about someone <a href="http://www.hssmstore.com/daryl-worley-jersey-c-1_39.html">Daryl Worley Authentic Jersey</a> who is diagnosed at such a young age, barely removed from his playing career, there’s no question that’s when it becomes a lot more alarming,” Danan said. “And that’s when I think it causes more of a stir, not just among athletes or the NFL, but certainly the general public and the media. And, I think, rightfully so.”

Clark’s age suggests he has Sporadic ALS, which is by far the more common form of the disease.

“There is a Sporadic and Genetic ALS,” said Dr. Santosh Kesari, the chairman of Neurosciences and Neurotherapeutics at Providence Saint John’s Health Center in Santa Monica. “More than 90 percent are sporadic meaning it’s just bad luck, not a genetic disease. And that usually occurs — the age of onset is around 60.

“The genetic version of ALS usually occurs in the 50s. So (Clark is) at the right age for the traditional, sporadic ALS - the cause of <a href="http://www.ky-oo32.com/graham-gano-jersey-c-1_23.html">Graham Gano Womens Jersey</a> which is really unknown. And brain injury is associated with this, but it’s not a clear, conclusive fact that that’s the cause.”

The controversial owner of Diore Lia, a rank outsider for Saturday’s Derby until her late withdrawal, has now made the extraordinary claim that she was nobbled. Richard Aylward, whose filly was described as having a pulled muscle on Saturday morning, appears convinced that someone deliberately inflicted the injury on his horse.

“In my opinion someone has given the horse a terrible belt with a piece of wood or something,” Aylward said on Monday. “Somebody has done it in the middle of the night, whoever they are. She was very, very stiff and carrying the leg [holding it off the floor]. It’s not just a lameness. The horse has been injured, simple as that, and she didn’t do it to herself. It’s a billion to one that this has happened to such a famous horse on the night before the Derby.” Aylward is prepared to make outlandish suggestions about who he believes to be responsible for doing such a thing but readily admits he has no evidence. He exonerates Diore Lia’s trainer, the Royston-based John Jenkins, who continues to believe the horse has sustained nothing more than a pulled muscle according to Aylward. “I have my own theories but the horse was nobbled; there’s no question about that,” Aylward said. “It’s so frustrating when we were just trying to raise a bit of money for Great Ormond Street Hospital.” Aylward had promised that any prize money won would go to GOSH and arranged for an online collection for the hospital. It had raised around £440 by Saturday morning but he believes much more would have been donated in the hours http://www.officialsstlouisblues.com/Adidas-Brett-Hull-Jerseyleading up to the race, had the filly been able to run. “I don’t think it’s career-ending,” Aylward said of the injury. “But how coincident for it to happen on the morning of the Derby. A spokesman for the British Horseracing Authority, advised of Aylward’s words, said: “Should any individual have any evidence to support such allegations, we would ask that they come forward and present this evidence to the BHA.” Aylward, however, is not on good terms with the BHA after the events of last week, which began with the ruling body saying there was no rule to prevent the inexperienced apprentice Gina Mangan from taking the ride on Diore Lia. By Wednesday the BHA had found just such a rule and forced Aylward to choose another jockey for his horse, rated a 1,000-1 chance by bookmakers. She’s the nicest girl I’ve ever met in my life, an absolute gem.” Aylward added he was outraged to learn that the BHA had also discussed whether it could or should prevent Diore Lia from taking part in the Derby. The BHA said on Monday that it could have used the same discretionary powers which it applied in Mangan’s case to prevent any horse from lining up, if it felt that was necessary. However, it concluded there would have been no justification for stopping Diore Lia from running, for all that her form showed her to be some way short of ordinary Derby quality. Advertisement Aylward spent 15 years on British racing’s forfeit list until March of this year, as the result of a debt dating from 2002. The reason for the debt has been the subject of conflicting reports since Saturday but Aylward says it was owed to racing’s ruling body, which was then the British Horseracing Board, as an entry fee to the Derby for a horse called Cast The Net. That horse missed his Derby chance because he was gelded the month before the race, which Aylward said took place without his consent. In the circumstances he felt he should not have been asked to pay the horse’s entry fee but he did eventually do so over a period of months. The Diore Lia saga prompted a debate about whether there should be a minimum rating or other qualification to prevent no-hopers from taking part in the Derby and perhaps causing trouble in running for legitimate contenders. The BHA said that, even before the controversies of Chad Johnson Womens Jersey last week, the issue was being considered in relation to all major Flat races by the Flat Pattern Committee. “The initial decision was that it is an issue that merits further consideration,” a spokesman said, “and so it will be picked up again in the near future, with the events of last week adding further food for thought for those discussions.” A complicating factor with the Derby is that the initial entries are made more than a year in advance, so that entries have already been made for next year’s race and any change would therefore probably not take effect until the 2019 running. “It is impossible at this stage to speculate as to what will come of those conversations,” the spokesman said, “as they are at a very early stage, and the nature of the Derby and that the entry process begins so early are obviously factors that need to be taken into consideration as those conversations develop
