San Diego, CA (Sports Network) - Homer Bailey got the Cincinnati Reds back on track by firing 8 1/3 outstanding innings in a 4-1 victory over the San Diego Padres at Petco Park. Lance Parrish Jersey . Bailey (6-10) yielded just six hits and one unearned run to halt a four-start losing streak and put an end to five straight Cincinnati losses that included setbacks in each of the first two tests of this three-game set. The hard- throwing righty took a shutout bid into the ninth that was spoiled by Chase Headleys one-out RBI double. The Reds mustered a mere five runs during the slide, but collected 11 hits in the finale and scored three times with the aid of a San Diego error in the seventh inning. Brandon Phillips led the charge by going 3-for-5 with a solo home run, while Joey Votto came through with a two-run double in the triumph. "We battled and battled, and Homer gave us all we needed," said Reds manager Dusty Baker. Eric Stults (8-10) threw 6 2/3 innings in a solid performance for the Padres, but was charged with all four runs -- only one of which was earned -- while permitting 10 hits. "Stults matched [Bailey] all the way through until the seventh, but Bailey was good," said Padres manager Bud Black. Yonder Alonso and Alexi Amarista each had two hits for San Diego, which had a four-game win streak snapped. While Bailey silenced the Padres bats for much of the afternoon, San Diego did make some noise prior to Wednesdays trade deadline by acquiring former 21- game winner Ian Kennedy from Arizona in exchange for lefty reliever Joe Thatcher and minor league pitcher Matt Stites. Bailey faced the minimum through the first three innings and allowed a runner to reach second only once until the ninth. That came in the fourth, when Chris Denorfia and Alonso each singled but were left stranded. He was staked to an early 1-0 edge courtesy of Phillips, who ended a 1-for-17 skid by hammering a Stults slider over the wall in straightaway center to begin the top of the second. The Reds had a chance to extend the lead a frame later after Derrick Robinson and Chris Heisey opened the third with consecutive singles. Robinson was thrown out attempting to steal third, however, two batters before Phillips delivered a base hit that likely would have drove in a run. Cincinnati finally broke out of its scoring slump in the seventh, capitalizing on a costly throwing error by Headley that lengthened the inning. With one on and two out, Headley fielded a grounder off the bat of Robinson near the third-base bag but was off the mark with his throw to first. Heisey followed with a bloop single to left that plated a run, then Votto ended Stults day with a double to right that scored both Robinson and Heisey for a 4-0 advantage. Bailey entered the ninth having set down 10 of the last 11 men he faced, but the Padres put the lead runner on when Votto mishandled Everth Cabreras grounder to first. One out later, Headley drove a pitch into the gap in left center to finally get San Diego on the board and prompt Baker to summon closer Aroldis Chapman to the mound. "I felt fine," said Bailey. "I definitely wish I could have finished that one, but weve got a pretty good closer coming in behind me." Chapman, who served up a game-winning two-run homer to Denorfia in Mondays opener, bounced back by retiring the next two hitters to notch his 25th save. Game Notes Stults lost at home for the first time since April 10 against the Dodgers, with the Padres having prevailed in each of his last eight outings at Petco Park prior to Wednesdays result ... Bailey improved to 5-0 in eight career starts against San Diego, with three of those victories coming at Petco Park ... Phillips hadnt homered in 23 straight games after last connecting on July 2 at San Francisco ... Padres outfielder Carlos Quentin sat out the contest due to a sore right knee ... Outstanding Penrith rookie Nathan Cleary concedes his father Ivan would never have given him his NRL debut this season if he was still coaching the Panthers. Dennis Smith Womens Jersey .However, the young halfback says he is looking forward to going head-to-head with his father when he returns to the first grade coaching ranks.Ivan Cleary was sacked by the Panthers at the end of last season. Anthony Griffin was brought in and handed Nathan Cleary his NRL debut in round 13 against Melbourne.Nathan has been a key player in the Panthers charge to Saturdays semi-final against Canberra. But he believes he would still be waiting to make his NRL debut if Ivan remained at the Panthers.I think that would have been the case but that is the way it goes, Nathan Cleary said.It would have been hard for my dad to make those big choices. To give me a start. But it has worked out well and hopefully dad can get a coaching job in the next few weeks.Ivan Cleary has been strongly linked to an NRL return ever since his departure from Penrith. St George Illawarra has been mentioned more recently as his next possible assignment. It would present an interesting battle if, or rather, when, father and son meet.We actually spoke about it not long ago, I look forward to it if it eventually happens, Nathan Cleary said.Speaking at the Rugby League Players Association Awards, Nathan Cleary said he didnt expect to play more than one game this year, after Griffin told him he would make his debut during the State of Origin period.I sat down with Hook (Griffin) halfway through the season and he said I am going to try and get you a game through the Origin period, Cleary said.I thought it was just going to be the one off game, I am stoked I got a few after that and from there it has just rolled on.Clearys stunning debut year could get even better against Canberra, with the winner at GIO Stadium one victory away from the grand final.I was definitely nervous coming into last weeks game (elimination final win over Canterbury) but getting amongst it put those nerves away, he said.Canberra are a great team. I am looking forward to the challenge, I am sure I will be nervous but I just cant wait. And Cleary Jnr does admit to his likeness to his old man. Over a 186-game first grade career and 249-game coaching career, Ivan was also know for is cool demeanour.I dont know such that he has passed it on it is just a personality trait (we have), Nathan Cleary said. ATLANTA -- The Atlanta Braves will be pleased to see Julio Teheran taking the mound on Saturday night. After the teams No. 1 starter had to leave his most recent start after four innings, it was feared the right-hander might be headed to the disabled list. But the tight muscle in his back that shortened his last appearance turned out to be less serious than believed and Teheran returns to the rotation against the Phillies when the Braves try to win for the fourth time in five games.Saturdays game features Teheran (3-8, 2.71) against Philadelphia right-hander Jeremy Hellickson (7-7 3.65), who has been the subject of trade rumors over the last few weeks.Teherans last start was on July 22 at Colorado when he left after throwing four shutout innings. Teheran tweaked his back muscle and was planning to play through the injury, but shortstop Erick Aybar approached his teammate and encouraged him to call the trainer to the mound. At first the team feared the injury was serious enough to send Teheran to the DL. Instead the team was able to give Teheran a couple of extra days off without losing him for two weeks. He felt a little better (Tuesday), just flat-ground throwing a little bit, more confident in turning everything loose, Atlanta manager Brian Snitker said. I think its a good idea to take advantage of it.The timing may be good, as Teheran has pitched well in his career against the Phillies. He is 3-0 with a 1.23 ERA in four starts against the Phillies this season and is 6-3 with a 2.29 in 12 career appearances against Philadelphia.Hellickson has allowed two or fewer runs in five of his last six starts. But Phillies are reportedly demanding top prospects in return.I guess Im anxious just to get it over with, Hellickson said. My focus is here and on my next start.Hellickson has made one career start against Atlanta and it occurred this season. He received a no-decision on July 7 after allowing two runs in six innings.Hellickson will be pitching after Vince Velasquez allowed two runs and seven hits in six innings. Velasquezs name has been mentioned in trade rumors along with HellicksonsThe Braves havent announced who their starter will be for Sunday afternoon. They recalled right-hander Ryan Weber and could use him or dip into Triple-A Gwinnett for another player, possibly Aaron Blair or Casey Kelly. Another option is Joel De La Cruz, who has made two starts for the Braves, but has worked out of the bullpen since early July. Were not 100 percent sure yet, Snitker said. Well keep grinding away and something will rear its head and be the right thing to do.The Braves did enough things right to snap a five-game losing streak to the Phillies with Fridays 2-1 win. Nick Markakis went 3-for-3 and Tyrell Jenkins allowed an unearned run in six innings for his major league victory. LOUIS -- The New Orleans Saints looked like a team playing out the string. Dwaine Pretorius cricketing career was just beginning when it almost ended. It was 2008, he was 18 years old and had been named in South Africas Under-19 World Cup squad, but he never got to the event. On the first of January that year, Pretorius tore the cartilage in his right knee and decided to study instead of play sport, at least for a while.I realised that sport is unpredictable and it would be a good idea to get my career sorted so that I would have something if cricket didnt work out, Pretorius, who has been named in South Africas squad for the one-off ODI against Ireland, told ESPNcricinfo. But my dad said that after I got my degree, he would financially support for a year or two to see if I could make it as a cricketer.Pretorius enrolled in an Accounting degree course at the University of Pretoria and for three years concentrated on his academics. He played for the student team but never ventured into anything more serious until he graduated. Even then, he contemplated furthering his education to become a chartered accountant (CA) before remembering the deal he had made with his father. We went on a family holiday and I said to my dad that when I am lying on my deathbed, Im not going to think that I should have tried to become a CA but I might think that I should have tried to become a cricketer. To pursue that ambition, Pretorius returned to his home province, North West, even though the teams coach, Monty Jacobs, warned him that there was little chance of breaking into the team. Monty said to me the squad was pretty settled and it would be tough to get a game but that I should come through and we could see, Pretorius said. The seeing, meant exactly that. For months, Pretorius trained and watched his team-mates play but did not take the field himself. It was very frustrating, he said. I felt like I was doing nothing and I started to wonder whether that was the best decision for me. Every time the thought came into my head, I reminded myself that I would regret not trying. Finally, in the last game of the season, in 2011, Pretorius got a look-in. He was selected for a three-day game against Kwa-Zulu Natal Inland and went wicketless in the first innings. Things got better when his turn to bat came. He scored 53 and then took 5 for 38 to set up the teams victory. The following summer, Pretorius was a regular and made a name for himself as an allrounder in the shortest format. In five T20 matches he took six wickets at 21.50 and scored 179 runs including two fifties at 59.66. He was awarded the T20 Amateur Cricketer of the Year award at CSAs 2012 prize-giving and was included in the Lions franchise squad to play in the Champions League T20 but his knee had other ideas. He suffered a second injury and required major ssurgery. Andre Drummond Pistons Jersey. At 23, he again thought his career had ended but after fighting his way back, he found a way to resuscitate it by changing his approach. Instead of trying to get quicker, he decided to get cleverer. In my rookie years I was obsessed with pace and I felt like I would never play for South Africa if I didnt reach 140kph. But after that, I shifted my focus, he said. I thought about what makes Vernon Philander so good as a player and I asked guys at the Lions and the answer they gave me was that he never misses his spot. In business terms, I thought that was part of the market I would carve out for myself.Pretorius put his efforts into accuracy, an awayswinger, and developing his all round game. He spent hours with Lions bowling coach Gordan Parsons and in the 2014-15 season was rewarded with a franchise contract. He became an important member of the Lions side and in the following year was judged the South African Cricketers Associations most valuable player across all formats. He was included in the South African A side to play in a quadrangular series in Australia this winter and is now one of three new names in the ODI squad, alongside Andile Phehlukwayo and Temba Bavuma.Unlike the other two, Pretorius isnt part of the squad for the five-match series against Australia that follows the Ireland game. Theres nothing I can do now, no more performances I can put before those matches, so its just about enjoying the experience, he said. It will give me a toe in the door and hopefully I will be able to show what kind of a player I am.So what kind of player is that? In his own words: A genuine allrounder who can offer something different. I want to be in a position to win games with bat or ball. I dont want people to say if Dwaine gets runs, we will be lucky. I want people to expect me to get runs and take wickets.South Africa are still searching for a two-in-one player they can rely on regularly and Pretorius will be up against Wayne Parnell, Chris Morris and Phehlukwayo in trying to claim the spot. Competition for the allrounder role is stiff but I think if I can get my batting solid, I can put some of those guys under pressure for their places, he said. But at the same time, I am not focused on trying to be better than someone else but on trying to be my best. For Pretorius, that means ensuring he puts himself in a position not just to play ODI cricket but to play Test cricket. That would be the ultimate. Maybe if I can score 500 or 600 first-class runs in a season, I will come into contention for a Test spot, he said. And so, at 27, Pretorius finds his career is beginning again. UFC expert Adam Matues provides his preview for UFC 205 as Conor McGregor taking on Eddie Alvarez. Shaquille ONeal Cavaliers Jersey . Ill wrap one on one shoulder, and Ill wrap another on the other shoulder. Those were the words of Conor McGregor as he prepares for his latest attempt at history. In the early hours of Sunday morning, the Irishman will face off against lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez and should he win, he will become the first fighter in the UFC to ever simultaneously hold two title belts.  Despite being the 145lb world champion, McGregors last two fights have been at 170lbs, but the former Cage Warriors lightweight champion could have found his perfect division at 155lbs and perhaps the conditioning issues surrounding him are due to fighting at the extremities of his weight. The weight cut to get to 145lbs is too severe and the effects of such a gruelling preparation was seen in his fight with Chad Mendes, while he struggled with the high tempo in his fights against Diaz. UFC president Dana White seperates Eddie Alvarez and Conor McGregor during the UFC 205 press conference Alvarezs intensity for five hard rounds is proven and you would expect that he will look to utilise his weight advantage and wrestling skills to neutralise McGregor on the mat, making over 2.5 rounds appeal at 11/10 with Sky Bet.Mendes was able to take McGregor to the ground on multiple occasions and, although, the Irishman did show off much improved takedown defence in his last fight, an argument could be made for Alvarez to win by submission. Is McGregors charm back? The swagger is back and Eddie Alvarez could be about to find that out GROUND GAINSHowever, the Irishman has brought in Dillon Danis, a high-level Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt to be his sparring partner and, from the training footage that has been released, McGregor looks confident and slick on the ground.Alvarez may find he has underestimated McGregors ground game and after the first two rounds, switch his game plan and instead look to engage in a striking match, which will be a big mistake. Not only does Alvarez find himself at a five-inch reach disadvantage, his opponent is one of the most dangerous strikers in MMA, who combines deadly precision with devastating power. Striking coach Owen Roddy put it perfectly when he said Conor has 25 minutes to land just one big punch.WALKING TARGET McGregor is determined to give UFC fans another spectacle Despite his great footwork, Alvarezs run forward high pressure style makes him easy to hit. McGregor was able to knockdown the much heavier Diaz but both he and Alvarez are tough, resilient brawlers that are hard to finish. Its a monumental task for McGregor to step up a weight division and KO the lightweight champion of the world for only the second time in his career.McGregor is a natural lightweight with a welterweight reach and you can anticipate that when the fight is standing, he will be slipping Alvarezs big right hand whilst countering with his brutal step back left hand, picking off Alvarezs advances every time he looks to set up a takedown.Im also expecting him to impress the judges with a couple of knockdowns but fail to get the knockout. On top of this, four of Alvarezs last five fights have gone the distance and therefore my main bet is going to be McGregor to win by decision at 15/2 with Sky Bet. McGregor gained revenge over Nate Diaz earlier this year BEST OF THE RESTUFC 205 is the best fight card ever assembled and below are my best bets from the fights outside of the main event.Nurmagomedov v JohnsonWith a perfect 23-0 record in professional MMA, Khabib Nurmagomedov is the sports hottest rising star right now. The Russian is unlucky not to be fighting Alvarez for the lightweight title himself and should have no problems extending his unbeaten record against Michael Johnson, who has lost two of his last three fights. However, Johnson has never lost via TKO/KO and therefore Nurmagomedov to win by submission at 4/1 looks a good bet.Jedrzejczyk vs  Kowalkiewicz UFCs new Rousey Our exclusive interview with Joanna Jedrzejczyk Its the battle of the unbeaten Polish females for the first title fight of the night as straw weight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk defends her belt against Karolina Kowalkiewicz. The champion is arguably the best female fighter on the planet right now, although Cris Cyborg and Ronda Rousey may have something to say about that, but its not going to be an easy night for her in what could potentially be the fight of the night. The build-up started explosively with Jedrzejczyk seemingly head-butting her opponent at the weigh in. With seven of her 12 MMA wins coming via decision, you can expect the former kick-boxer to use aggressive and precise striking to successfully defend her belt via points. My bet is therefore Jedrzejczyk to win by decision at 10/11.Weidman v RomeroThis is closer fight than the odds would suggest, with both fighters having just one loss on their MMA records. Chris Weidman is the 4/7 favourite, which is too short for someone who hasnt fought for 11 months, having suffered injury setbacks since losing his title. It looks an even worse price when we consider that his opponent Yoel Romero has won seven straight fights with the last six going to a third round. Im going to avoid picking a side for this fight and instead my bet is going to be over 2.5 rounds at evens.Undercard AccaNurmagomedov to win by submission, Jedrzejczyk by decision & Over 2.5 rounds in Weidman v Romero - 18/1 Also See: Is the McGregor swagger back? LOS ANGELES -- For the second consecutive series, a Dodgers opponent ran the balk flag up the pole, and Los Angeles manager?Dave Roberts is growing impatient with it.Chicago Cubs manager Joe Maddon called the move to first base by Dodgers rookie pitcher Julio Urias Balking 101. In the Dodgers opening round series against the Nationals, Washington manager Dusty Baker said that?Clayton Kershaws move to first base is a balk. You know what, for us, and I have said it all along, is for us to all eliminate noise, Roberts said before Game 4 of the National League Championship Series on Wednesday. I think that its telling when an opposing manager has to pull out certain stops to play the mental game. So for us, that doesnt affect us.For those not keeping score, that would be one balk complaint from Baker, one balk complaint from Maddon and one recognition from Roberts that the Dodgers have their opponents reaching deep into their bag of tricks. Here was Bakers take on Kershaws move to first base during the NL Division Series: I know hes tough to hit and hes tough to run on. Quite frankly, Im hoping we get some baserunners and the umpires might call a balk or two on him because he kind of rolls through the set position -- which they dont call -- but I heard that really upsets him if they do call one. So Im hooping they call maybe a couple of them. Channing Frye Cavaliers Jersey. The umpires did not call a balk on Kershaw during the NLDS.Maddons complaint with Urias was in regard to the angle he takes when stepping toward first base. This was Maddons take on Urias pickoff move when meeting the media on Tuesday: When you get to see it on TV, its pretty obvious, its not even close. Its a very basic tenet regarding what is and what is not a balk. Give him credit, man, for going through with it. Thats part of the game. I think from the umpires perspective, there are certain umpires that are in tune to that, some that are not. There are other balks that I always get annoyed with that arent called. So Im certain that the umpiring crew has been made aware of it. Thats not an interpretation. Thats Balking 101 for me. So well see. Well see how it all plays out.Why worry so much about a move to first base from a 20-year-old pitcher? Well, Urias was actually tied for the major league lead with six pickoffs in just 77 innings pitched in the regular season. And Baker should have probably been complaining about Urias move in the NLDS, not Kershaws. The only pitcher to pick off a runner in that series was Urias. Cordes took it out fast, putting him more than a second under the world-record pace at the final turn. But the 22-year-old Prenot was much stronger on the closing lap, bouncing up and down furiously in the water to surge past Cordes. The Californian touched in 2 minute, 7.17 seconds -- the fastest time of the year and just off the world mark of 2:07.01 set by Japans Ahkiro Yamaguchi in 2012.Cordes barely held on for second, giving him a second individual event at the Olympics. LOUIS -- Lance Lynn was one of the more enthusiastic participants as the St. http://www.nflcoltsgearsshop.com/Frank-Gore.html?cat=882 .35 million, one-year contract that avoided salary arbitration. Plouffe batted .254 with 14 home runs and 52 RBIs in 477 at-bats last season, his second as a regular in the lineup. CHICAGO -- Jeff Samardzija finally got to make a playoff start at Wrigley Field, and it worked out really well for his former team.Samardzija lasted just two innings in the shortest start of his career and San Francisco was shut down by Chicagos bullpen in a 5-2 loss to the Cubs on Saturday night, putting the Giants on the brink of elimination two games into their best-of-five NL Division Series.Just cant put your team in that much of a hole early in the game, especially against a good staff like they have over there, Samardzija said. Like to have that one back, for sure, that ones on me.Gregor Blanco hit an RBI double and Brandon Belt added a sacrifice fly in San Franciscos two-run third, but that was it for the Giants in another sluggish performance at the plate. They have scored in just two of their 27 innings in this years postseason, winning 3-0 on Conor Gillaspies ninth-inning homer in the wild-card game against the Mets and losing 1-0 in the NLDS opener Friday night.San Francisco won the World Series in 2010, `12 and `14, and its playoff win against New York on Wednesday was reminiscent of its even-year magic during those title runs. But the Giants lackluster stay in Chicago put them in a big hole against the loaded Cubs, who led the majors with 103 wins this year. You know you never want to get down 0-2 but at this point we just have to win three in a row, second baseman Joe Panik said. Weve done it before and just got to do it again. The biggest positive for the Giants: Madison Bumgarner is lined up for Game 3 on Monday night in San Francisco. The big left-hander tossed a four-hitter in the wild-card win and is 6-1 with a microscopic 0.79 ERA in his last nine playoff appearances.San Francisco also can draw from its 2012 title run, when it dropped the first two games of the division series against Cincinnati and won three in a row to advance. The Giants then fell behind 3-1 in the NLCS against St. Louis and stayed alive again. It gives you a lot of confidence, the fact that youve been in this position before, manager Bruce Bochy said.Bochys club was looking to rebound in Game 2 against the Cubs after it managed just six hits against Jon Lester and Aroldis Chapman in the series opener. But the Giantss trailed from the very beginning in Samardzijas second career start at Wrigley as a visitor. Donte Moncrief Colts Jersey. amardzija was drafted by the Cubs in 2006 and spent his first 6 1/2 seasons with the team before he was traded to Oakland in the 2014 deal that brought shortstop Addison Russell to the Cubs. His only previous playoff appearance was a relief outing for Chicago against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2008 Division Series. The right-hander, a native of nearby Merrillville, Indiana, who played baseball and football at Notre Dame, fell behind in the first when Dexter Fowler hit a leadoff double and scored on Ben Zobrists two-out RBI single. The Cubs added three more in the second. The big blow was pitcher Kyle Hendricks two-run single on a flare to center.Samardzija made some mistakes and the broken-bat hit to the pitcher, that one hurt a little bit, catcher Buster Posey said.Bochy hit for Samardzija in the third. The righty allowed six hits and walked one, throwing 33 of his 47 pitches for strikes.Obviously, theres some pitches you like to have back, he said. I dont think the location was necessarily all that bad. It was just, for me, it was falling behind in the count and then not being able to put guys away.Hendricks departed in the fourth with a bruised right forearm after he was struck by Angel Pagans line drive with two out. But the Giants managed just two hits against five Cubs relievers.Travis Wood, who replaced Hendricks, got four outs and homered against George Kontos in the fourth. Chapman pitched a perfect ninth for his second save of the series. The Giants finished with six hits. Bochy even tried Bumgarner as a pinch hitter in the fifth -- third baseman Kris Bryant bobbled Bumgarners grounder for an error, then threw the ball away to let Bumgarner reach second base with one out. He was stranded there.Playoff baseball, very rarely do you play 10-8 games. Its all low-scoring, Panik said. WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. Reggie Lewis Celtics Jersey . -- When the season began, No. 17 Purdue knew it had two of the nations best big men in 6-foot-8 sophomore power forward Caleb Swanigan and 7-2 junior center Isaac Haas. What the Boilermakers did not kmow was what kind of production they would receive from their perimeter players. After this weeks Cancun Challenge, coach Matt Painter may have found the answer.Swanigan had 22 points and 13 rebounds, and freshman guard Carsen Edwards added 19 points, leading Purdue to a 79-68 victory over NJIT on Saturday.Swanigan was a perfect 6 of 6 from the field and 10 of 10 from the free throw line, and Edwards scored 15 second-half points to help Purdue (5-1) pull away from a 37-34 halftime lead.Swanigan was the MVP of this weeks Cancun Challenge, and Edwards scored a career-high 21 points in Wednesday nights victory over Auburn in the championship game. Were still turnover prone (16 on Saturday), and thats a problem, but we are doing some good things with our zone offense, especially when we are posting our big guys in those sets, which some teams dont do, said Painter, who got 25 points from guard Dakota Mathias in Tuesdays victory against Utah State in Cancun.I also like our focus at the start of second halves. We are able to mix and match lineups, and were still getting some of those nice second-half runs. Carsen was a big part of that today.Edwards helped Purdue maintain a double-digit lead throughout most of the second half.I am just kind of picking my spots, Edwards said. I am just playing off my teammates. I am playing the game and letting it come to me. I try not to lose confidence at all.Damon Lynn had 20 of his 33 points in the second half for NJIT (3-4), which also got 12 points from Chris Jenkins.Highlanders coach Brian Kennedy appreciated his teams effort.Obviously, Purdue is a Top 25 team with two of the best big men in the country, and those two guys arent going anywhere, Kennedy said. So, I told our guys from the beginning that we had to fight, fight and keep fighting, which is what NJIT basketball is all about. We may not get the top recruits in the country, but we are going to compete and fight as hard as we can.The momentum swung completely in Purdues favor with 9:12 remaining when Rob Ukawuba fouled Swanigan and also was whistled for a technical foul. Swanigan made four consecutive free throws for a 61-47 lead.I just grabbed the rebound, walked away and the guy called the foul, Swanigan said. (Ukawuba) started walking after me, and I just kept walking away. I was surprised they called a technical so quickly. Ill take it.BIG PICTURENJIT: With Lynn, the Highlanders have a proven scorer (22.5 points a game) and never backed down from a Purdue team that came in averaging 83 points and shooting 51.9 percent from the field. Beginning with Dec. 30, 2014, NJIT is 39-22.Purdue: The Boilermakers were sloppy with 10 first-half turnovers in their first game since winning the Cancun Challenge, but with Carsen Edwards, Mathias and Vince Edwards beginning to complement big men Swanigan and Haas, Purdue is assembling a really nice blend of interior and perimeter scoring options.POLL IMPLICATIONSHaving beaten Utah State, Auburn and NJIT by a collective 57 points this week in addition to capturing the Cancun Challenge championship by beating Auburn by 25, look for the Boilermakers to climb in the next poll.BIG NUMBERSThrough six games, Swanigan is averaging 18.8 points and 12 rebounds, having made 35 of 57 field goal attempts and 38 of 51 free throws.HIGH PRAISEPainter is impressed by the way NJITs Lynn plays the game, making 10 of 18 field goal attempts Saturday, including 8 of 13 from 3-point range. He is just such a tough cover, Painter said. He is a little different in the way he shoots it, but even if he is out there 25 to 27 feet from the basket, you cant give him a step or two.UP NEXTNJIT: The Highlanders will play host to St. Francis (Pa.) on Wednesday night.Purdue: The Boilermakers will travel to No. 10 Louisville on Wednesday night in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.---More AP college basketball: www.collegebasketball.ap.org and https://twitter.com/AP-Top25. James Young Jersey . -- The Magic have their first victory of the new year. James Young Celtics Jersey . Newcastle dominated in the early stages but City weathered the storm and then raised its game in extra time. Negredo broke the deadlock from close range after a simple move in the 99th minute before Dzeko took the ball round goalkeeper Tim Krul to seal the victory in the 105th. http://www.authenticcelticsproshop.com/Reggie-Lewis-Jersey/ . Reassurance came from Paul Tesori, his caddie and close friend whose newborn son is in intensive care in a Florida hospital. "Paul sent me a text this morning, just told me he loved me and wanted to go out and fight as hard as I would any other day," Simpson said Sunday after doing just that. Its that time in the football season when fans ask, Whatever happened to...?Whether because of injury, getting keyed on or avoided by the opponent, or just plain bad luck, some Big Ten players havent been able to build on or repeat the big seasons they had in 2015.Heres a look at some of them:OFFENSE- Illinois RB KeShawn Vaughn rushed for a team-high 723 yards with six touchdowns and was projected to be the featured back this season. He lost his job in the fourth game. Since then hes had a total of 11 carries while Reggie Corbin and Kendrick Foster have gotten most of the work.- Illinois QB Wes Lunt started all 12 games last season and threw for 250 yards five times, and he looked like a lock to do the same under first-year coach Lovie Smith. He hurt his back against Purdue on Oct. 8 and hasnt played since, though he practiced in full pads this week.- Indiana WR Simmie Cobbs was suspended for the opener and sustained a season-ending ankle injury on the first play of the second game. Last year, he caught just under five balls a game and was the Big Tens third-leading receiver with 80 yards a game.- Nebraska WR Jordan Westerkamps numbers were running well behind last season even before a back injury kept him out of the last two games: 13 catches through five games compared with 27 in 2015.- Rutgers QB Chris Laviano started 18 straight games before getting benched in the second half against Illinois two weeks ago. He completed only 48 percent of his passes in seven games. Giovanni Rescigno got the start in the narrow loss at Minnesota last week, and coach Chris Ash indicated Rescigno will be the guy the rest of the way.DEFENSE- Iowa CB Desmond King won the Jim Thorpe Award last year with eight interceptions. Hes still the Big Tens best cover man. QBs, smartly, are sttaying away from him. Jae Crowder Celtics Jersey. . Hes intercepted just one pass and ran it back for a touchdown.- Michigan State DL Malik McDowell has been banged up, missed half a game for a targeting penalty and has moved from tackle to end. It took until the seventh game for him to record his first sack.- Minnesota LB Cody Poock was second on the team with 99 tackles in 2015. Hes missed two games this because of injuries but still has only 18 tackles, seven coming in one game.- Ohio State MLB Raekwon McMillan was by far his teams top tackler last season, with nine per game. His average has dropped to six, but thats largely because opponents arent running up the middle as much.- Purdue LB Andy James Garcia has just nine tackles in six games after ranking third on the team with 63. Garcias role decreased because the Boilermarkers played a lot of nickel defense the first five games. But even now that the defense is playing more 4-3, Garcia has been the odd man out.SPECIAL TEAMS- Indiana K Griffin Oakes was Big Ten kicker of the year after making 24 of 29 field goals, including 6 of 8 from 40 yards or longer. Match factsNovember 19, 2016 Start time 0930 local (0730 GMT)Big PictureIf off-field distractions have followed West Indies to Zimbabwe, their performance in their first game of the tri-series did not show it. Adreian Payne Jersey . They brought a largely young, inexperienced squad here but their win on Wednesday suggested depth and quality nonetheless, and they will arrive in Bulawayo a confident group.West Indies three debutants in the first match helped to shape their win, with Shai Hope and Rovman Powell both making 40s before offspinner Ashley Nurse chipped in with three wickets. Nurse has insisted that rankings are not foremost in West Indies game plans, but their current position of ninth in the ICC rankings suggests a serious malaise that needs tackling. With a forward-looking squad and the necessity for general improvement in one-day cricket, its hard to dismiss the feeling that West Indies are focussed on their future. They have already missed out on qualification for the Champions Trophy next year, and if they are to avoid the ignominy of having to play in a qualifying tournament for the 2019 World Cup, they will have to continue to build on performances such as those in their tour opener. This game offers their next opportunity to do just that. The increased pace and menace with which West Indies quicks will operate brings with it myriad dangers for Zimbabwes batsmen. Shannon Gabriel and Jason Holder will not only gain extra lift from a traditionally dull surface, but Bulawayos drier pitches and outfields will also likely bring reverse-swing into the equation, as they did last year when Afghanistans Dawlat Zadran picked up nine wickets at 16.66 in five ODIs at Queens.Dawlats pace and swing meant he was able to strike upfront with the new ball, and then again with the old to help Afghanistan win the series 3-2. The bowling stats from that series offer further clues as to which bowlers might prosper in Bulawayo: Wellington Masakadza, Tendai Chisoro and Amir Hamza - all spinners - were the other leading wicket-takers. Genuine pace, accompanied by spin, will form a potent attack. With both Sri Lanka and West Indies gaining bonus points from their opening wins, Zimbabwe have their work cut out if they are to stop this tri-series becoming a two-horse race.Form guide(last five completed matches, most recent first)Zimbabwe: LLLLLWest Indies: WLLLLIn the spotlightZimbabwe coach Heath Streak called for more energy and aggression from his team after their defeat to Sri Lanka, and one player who normally has both in spades is Sean Williams. This is a player who spanked Zimbabwes fastest Test hundred while seriously ill with the flu earlier this year: he has clearly got the sort of fight Streak is looking for. Williams made starts in both Tests against Sri Lanka, so hes in some nick, and he averages 40 at Queens Sports Club - his home ground. Williams also seems to enjoy batting against West Indies - in two World Cup matches against them he averages 146, with a pair of 70s in 2007 and 2015.Given the advantages of his height and long fingers, Sulieman Benns one-day bowling average of 46.38 is surprisingly high. Benn was part of the squad that lost to Pakistan last month, taking 2 for 158 in the series, and West Indies will want him to improve on those returns in Zimbabwe. Benn, 35, is of an age where consistency in performance is vital to continued selection. He should find Bulawayos pitches to his liking, and if he hits rhythm he will help West Indies retain control of the middle overs.Teams newsZimbabwe will probably look to bring in an extra spinner in these conditions. A debut for Tarisai Musakanda would offer an injection of youthful hunger into the batting, though that would also necessitate a re-shuffle in the batting order.Zimbabwe (possible): 1 Chamu Chibhabha, 2 Brian Chari, 3 Craig Ervine, 4 Sikandar Raza, 5 Sean Williams, 6 PJ Moor(wk), 7 Elton Chigumbura, 8 Graeme Cremer (c), 9 Tendai Chisoro, 10 Carl Mumba, 11 Tinashe Panyangara. With two spinners already in their line-up on Wednesday, and momentum with them following their win, West Indies may well go into this match unchanged.West Indies (possible): 1 Johnson Charles, 2 Kraigg Brathwaite, 3 Evin Lewis, 4 Shai Hope(wk), 5 Jonathan Carter, 6 Rovman Powell, 7 Carlos Brathwaite, 8 Jason Holder (c), 9 Ashley Nurse, 10 Sulieman Benn, 11 Shannon Gabriel.Pitch and conditionsSituated in the drier south of the country, Bulawayo tends to produce flatter pitches with less grass than Harare. Spin will be an important factor in the game, while inclement weather is less likely to feature - though when thunderstorms do brew they can be cataclysmic. Fortunately, Saturday should be sunny and dry.Stats and triviaWest Indies last tour of Zimbabwe was nine years ago, and none of West Indies squad have played at Queens Sports Club before.Zimbabwe have played 45 ODIs against West Indies, losing 35 of those. Their last win against West Indies was in Guyana in 2010, when Zimbabwe clung on to defend 254 and win by two runs. The first List A game to be played at Queens Sports Club in the independent Zimbabwe was between West Indies and Zimbabwe in October 1981. Zimbabwe overcame a young West Indies side containing Desmond Haynes, Faoud Bacchus, Gus Logie, Jeff Dujon, Malcolm Marshall and Wayne Daniel by 53 runs, with Dennis Streak - current coach Heath Streaks father - taking 4 for 45 with his medium pace.QuotesI had a chat with Marlon Samuels [who has been to Zimbabwe before], but apart from that were just pulling out all the data we can possibly find from the analysts in terms of the ground stats and the opposition. But cricket is cricket at the end of the day, you just have to play as you see it, and assess the conditions as quickly as possible.West Indies captain Jason Holder leads a squad with very little experience of Zimbabwean conditionsWe know their batsmen are pretty fearless. We know they like to hit boundaries. Well try and stop that, and starve them of the boundary option to put them under pressure.Zimbabwe captain Graeme Cremer thinks his teams best chance of putting West Indies under pressure will come from disciplined bowling Karl-Anthony Towns Timberwolves Jersey . Anthony Calvillo, through 20 CFL seasons, was frequently invincible and largely stoic in the heat of competition. But underneath the professional exterior he was, and is, compellingly human. Zach LaVine Timberwolves Jersey . Wofford linebacker Michael Roach was released from a Tennessee hospital Saturday and is returning to campus two days after going into cardiac arrest during the teams season-opening game at Tennessee Tech. Will Middlebrooks Brewers Jersey .The junior collapsed on his teams sideline during the third quarter. He was later diagnosed at Cookeville Regional Medical Center with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, the leading cause of sudden cardiac death in young athletes in the United States. Typically, only five percent of people survive after going into cardiac arrest.Roach had an implantable cardioverter defibrillator inserted Friday. He returned to?in Spartanburg, South Carolina, on Saturday. This was an undiagnosed heart condition that I have had most likely since I was born as it is caused by a genetic mutation, Roach said. It causes the heart walls to thicken and during exercise it can result in loss of blood flow and the rhythm to get off beat.I was on the field for the 13-play drive by Tennessee Tech and my heart was beating very fast, but it was not pumping blood. I went into cardiac arrest and for approximately 45 seconds had no pulse and was not breathing. The athletic trainers and doctors were in the right place at the right time to do what was needed. In a university release, Roach thanked the athletic training staffs from the two schools, the hospital doctors and staff, and the Tennessee Tech community. Wofford won the game 21-7. Milwaukee Brewers Hoodie . The Masters champion and winner of last weeks Australian PGA has a three-round total of 14-under 199 at Royal Melbourne. LOUIS -- Cardinals cleanup hitter Allen Craig says hes recovered from a foot injury and ready to be put on St. http://www.baseballbrewersproshop.com/tyler-thornburg-brewers-jersey/ . 10 Texas A&Ms offence dominated as usual against SMU. LANDOVER, Md. -- Even though the Washington Redskins rested several key starters, they couldnt avoid injuries in their second preseason game. With quarterback Kirk Cousins, receiver DeSean Jackson and cornerback Josh Norman watching from the sideline, top running back Matt Jones left in the first quarter of the Redskins 22-18 victory over the New York Jets with a sprained left shoulder.Jones couldnt raise his hand above his head even after the game, but coach Jay Gruden was cautiously optimistic about the situation.Well continue to get him checked out, get rehab and hopefully it wont be too long, Gruden said. Its a little upsetting, but I think hes going to be OK. I dont think its going to be a long injury.Jones looked good with 31 yards on seven carries before Calvin Pryor landed on him after pushing him out of bounds. The Redskins (1-1) can ill afford to lose Jones given their lack of experienced depth behind him.Third-down back Chris Thompson, rookies Robert Kelley and Keith Marshall and second-year player Mack Brown split the bulk of the carries after Jones left. Wide receiver Rashad Ross was among the standouts for Washington with seven catches, including two touchdowns, for 58 yards.I thought Ross played outstanding, said quarterback Colt McCoy, who learned he was starting as he came out of the tunnel before the game and was 13 of 16 for 159 yards. Ross brings speed to the table, and thats a big asset. When he uses it that way, its good for the offense.Having all of the options is better for the offense, but Gruden opted to rest Cousins, Jackson and Pierre Garcon -- and Norman, cornerback Bashaud Breeland and linebackers Will Compton and Ryan Kerrigan on defense -- to see other players in important spots. The Jets (1-1) saw good things out of undrafted rookie receiver Robby Anderson, who made six catches for 131 yards. The Temple product hauled in a 50-yard pass from third-stringer Bryce Petty and made a 42-yard touchdown catch.Hes got a very, very sneaky way of making hard catches look easy, Petty said. Hes made a bunch of those catches in practice, so its nice to see that transition to the game.Cornerback Darrelle Revis made an impact in his preseason debut, ppicking off McCoy in the end zone during Washingtons opening drive. Custom Milwaukee Brewers Jersey. Starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick was 4 of 9 for 35 yards, and Bilal Powell ran for 23 yards on three carries.Rookie Nate Sudfeld led Washington on the game-winning drive, completing it with an 18-yard touchdown pass to Kendal Thompson with 29 seconds left.ROOKIE WATCHJets: QB Christian Hackenberg didnt get into the game, which coach Todd Bowles repeatedly called a coachs decision.Redskins: Sudfeld, a sixth-round pick out of Indiana playing against brother Zach for the first time, was 10 of 20 for 77 yards, with most of that coming on the final drive.POSITION BATTLESJets: K Ross Martin, a rookie out of Duke, made a 40-yard field goal and hit the right upright on an extra-point attempt. Nick Folk made his extra-point attempt. Field goal kicking is easy, you make or you miss, Bowles said.Redskins: Along with Ross, WR Ryan Grant had four catches for 43 yards. ... OL Spencer Longs costly hands-to-the-face penalty that led to a safety didnt help him in a competition at left guard against Shawn Lauvao, though it came with him at center.INJURY UPDATEJets: LB Erin Henderson left with a shoulder injury that Bowles termed a stinger. ... WR Quincy Enunwa suffered a concussion while causing a fumbled punt return. ... DL Lawrence Thomas left with a shoulder injury, and Bowles wasnt sure of the severity. ... RB Matt Forte (hamstring) was active but did not play. ... DE Muhammad Wilkerson did not dress as he works back from a broken right leg suffered in the regular-season finale.Redskins: LT Trent Williams (sore right knee) and TE Jordan Reed (sprained thumb) were held out for the second consecutive game.QUOTABLEJets: Petty on pushing Geno Smith for the backup QB job: If youre gunning to be the backup, I think youre wrong. I think were all gunning to be the starter.Redskins: Gruden on penalties: Theres quotation marks on a couple of those. ...
