ST. Simon Despres Ducks Jersey . PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Tampa Bay manager Joe Maddon feels his team reached an important regular-season milestone. Yunel Escobar and Ben Zobrist homered during a three-run seventh inning and the surging Rays improved to a season-high 10 games over .500 by beating the Minnesota Twins 7-4 on Monday night. "The thing I like is that were 10 games over," Maddon said. "Youve got to go to 10, then youve got to go to 15, etc., etc. The major takeaway from tonight is the fact that were 10 games over. Were playing, probably, our best baseball right now." Escobar had a leadoff tiebreaking homer in the seventh off Samuel Deduno (4-4), who departed after Desmond Jennings followed with a triple. Caleb Thielbar entered and got one out before Zobrist gave Tampa Bay a 6-3 lead with a two-run shot. "Were always ready to jump on an opportunity," Tampa Bay right fielder Wil Myers said. "That just shows what kind of team we are, and capable of those kind of things. I think thats big going down the stretch." Alex Torres (3-0) pitched a perfect seventh for the Rays, who have won nine of 10. Escobar also had a sacrifice fly in the eighth. "Weve been playing well," Maddon said. "Pitching well, catching the ball on defence and not expanding our strike zone. I just like the fact that were showing kind of a comeback mentality right now." Fernando Rodney got the final two outs to pick up his 20th save after an RBI single by Pedro Florimon off Jamey Wright. Justin Morneau homered for the Twins, who have lost eight of nine. Deduno gave up five runs and 10 hits over six-plus innings. Thielbar had not allowed a run in his first 17 appearances during his rookie season before Zobrists homer. After Brian Dozier hit a third-inning RBI double, the Twins took a 3-2 lead in the fourth when Morneau had a solo homer and Chris Parmelee added a sacrifice fly off Roberto Hernandez. Minnesota went 4 for 4 with the sac fly during the fourth, but had Oswaldo Arcia thrown out trying to advance to second after hitting a single and Aaron Hicks picked off at first by Rays catcher Jose Molina. "Guys were trying, but to the pickoff at first base with Hicksy, and Arcia trying to go to second base, silly stuff like that will end up shooting you in the end, and it did," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said. Morneau tied Bob Allison for fourth place on the Twins career list with 211 homers. Minnesota loaded the bases with two outs in the fifth, but failed to score when Trevor Plouffe flew out. The Twins went 1 for 10 with runners in scoring position through six innings. Roberto Hernandez allowed three runs and eight hits in six innings. The right-hander struck out three, walked three and hit a batter. Tampa Bay tied it at 3 in the fifth on Evan Longorias run-scoring single. Luke Scott put the Rays up 1-0 on a first-inning homer. Molina made it 2-0 with an RBI single in the second. Deduno got hit in the leg by James Loneys hard-hit infield single during the second, but stayed in the game. One day after having his career-best 16-game hitting streak ended, Loney had two hits. NOTES: Maddon remains hopeful that 12-game winner Matt Moore will be added as a replacement player to the AL All-Star team. ... Hicks had a career-high four hits. ... Rays RHP Alex Cobb, struck in the right ear by a liner on June 15, threw off a mound for the second time and didnt rule out pitching in games in late July or early August. ... Twins RHP PJ Walters accepted an outright assignment to Triple-A Rochester. RHP Cole De Vries (sprained right elbow) has been placed on the DL by Rochester. ... Minnesota RHP Rich Harden (shoulder) could throwing batting practice this week. ... Twins RHP Nick Blackburn (wrist) gave up two runs and six hits over five innings in his third outing with the Gulf Coast League Twins. Cam Fowler Ducks Jersey . That, along with his 32 points -- which tied a career high -- proved too much for Denver to overcome, and the Pelicans held on for their third straight victory, 111-107 on Sunday night. With Zlatan Ibrahimovic suspended for Manchester Uniteds clash with Arsenal, Jose Mourinho faces a selection dilemma up front. The stats suggest its time to unleash Marcus Rashford through the middle. Arsenals visit to Old Trafford on Saturday stirs special memories for Marcus Rashford. The teenager scored twice in three minutes when he made his Premier League debut in the same fixture last season, helping Manchester United to a memorable 3-2 win and catapulting his name into the headlines.Three days earlier he had netted two goals on his senior bow against Midtjylland, but doing it against a Premier League title contender was a different story. Rashford became a superstar-in-waiting, and the previously unknown youngster finished the season as Louis van Gaals first-choice striker with eight goals in 18 appearances. Nine months on from those thrilling beginnings, Rashford finds himself in a rather different situation. Jose Mourinho made a point of defending his youth policy at his Manchester United unveiling in July, but the critics appeared to be vindicated as Zlatan Ibrahimovic took centre stage and Uniteds rising star started the season on the bench. Marcus Rashford scored twice against Arsenal last season Rashford had to be patient, but he has made a habit of taking his chances. He came off the bench to score a stoppage-time winner against Hull in his first competitive appearance under Mourinho in August, and he won his new managers trust with an industrious second-half cameo in the Manchester derby.Rashford was rewarded with a chance to lead the line for Uniteds Europa League trip to Feyenoord a few days later, but he struggled to make an impact in a 1-0 defeat at De Kuip. Ibrahimovic was restored up front, and Rashford has been confined to the flanks ever since. Its an unfamiliar role for the academy product. Rashford revealed he had not played as a winger since the age of 12 or 13 in an interview with Sky Sports in September, and he was clear about his priorities, too. On a personal level, scoring lots of goals is the main objective, he said. Marcus Rashford struck a dramatic winner against Hull in August Four goals in his first six appearances of the campaign augured well, but Rashford has struggled to hit the heights of last season since then. He has not scored in his last seven appearances for United. The barren run stretches to 10 games for club and country. Its the longest of his fledgling career.Rashford hopes the experience of playing out wide will make him a more complete player and Mourinho has been impressed by his defensive work-rate, but his new responsibilities are clearly coming at a cost. A statistical comparison between this season and last reveals his attacking output has dropped in all departments. Marcus Rashford 2015/16 vs 2016/17 Stat 2015/16 2016/17 Games played 18 14 Goals scored 8 4 Assists 2 1 Shots per game 2.0 1.5 Shots on target per game 0. But since moving to the flanks he is shooting less and spending less time in the areas where he is most effective. In Uniteds goalless draw at Anfield last month, he didnt touch the ball once in Liverpools box. Six months half price Upgrade to Sky Sports to watch Man Utd v Arsenal on Saturday and get the first six months half price Its not just his goal threat which has been diminished. Rashford is creating fewer chances than last season, his dribbles have fallen from 4.7 per game to 3.3, and his crossing stats are those of a striker shoehorned into an unnatural position. Of 25 attempted deliveries, only two have found a team-mate. It gives him a success rate of just eight per cent. Marcus Rashfords heatmap in Manchester Uniteds 0-0 draw with Liverpool Despite the obvious drawbacks of moving Rashford from his favoured position, Mourinhos faith in Ibrahimovic has been unwavering. The Swede went six Premier League games without scoring before his double against Swansea prior to the international break, but he is still the only outfield player to have started every minute of Uniteds campaign.Rashford, of course, is not the only player in the frame to deputise against Arsenal. Wayne Rooney has lost his place in the United team this season, but he could get the nod to start up front on Saturday having recovered from the apparent knee injury which forced him out of England duty. Importance of Carrick The details behind why Michael Carricks return can be the catalyst for Manchester United. Mourinho might be tempted to err on the side of experience when he comes to pick his team, but he would be better off casting his mind back to the last time Arsenal visited Old Trafford. Rashford was the hero that day. Moving him back into his natural position could be Uniteds best hope of claiming another three points against the Gunners. NEW YORK -- Lakers?coach Luke Walton challenged his players after the team suffered its eighth straight loss Wednesday night in?Brooklyn, dropping Los Angeles to 10-18. Lucas Vazquez Spain Jersey .He raised his voice. He got his point across today, Lakers guard Nick Young said of Walton, a first-year coach. Just mentally being soft and calling us out. We got to step up to the plate. I know Im not soft. My teammates arent soft, so we got to show him and prove ourselves.Lakers forward Larry Nance Jr.?pointed out that Walton, known for his laid-back demeanor, has raised his voice before.Luke is a players coach, but he can get onto us, Nance said.Walton pointed out after his teams?107-97 defeat how the Lakers squandered little moments in the game that I felt we couldve made a little distance and we casually approached as a group. He added: As a group, as a team, weve got a lot to learn about winning and how hard it is. Its frustrating, but its where were at. Its like I told the guys, were going to find a way out. When that is, time will tell. The young Lakers, who are led by the leagues youngest head coach in the 36-year-old Walton, have struggled with injuries following their surprising 9-7 start after posting a franchise-worst 17-65 record last season. He came in, said what he said, and it was just a challenge, said Lakers guard DAngelo Russell. The best thing about it is we got practice [Thursday]. We get to see who really takes what he says and goes with it and who takes what he says and it goes through one ear and out the other. The Lakers will play the 76ers in Philadelphia on Friday. The game will be televised by ESPN.When asked what the Lakers should focus on heading into Fridays game, Russell said: I dont want to talk about the problems anymore. I dont want to come together as a group and talk. I want to get a great practice in and go down there [to Philadelphia] and dont say nothing. I dont even want us to talk to each other. I just want it to be a straight business approach going into this game.Russell added: Its not what these fans are used to. Its not what Coach is used to. Our main focus is turning around the organization, and theres losses here and there, but eight and 10 and 12 in a row -- thats not us. I dont want to talk about it anymore. I dont want guys to speak their minds -- I just want to come in and get to work. Sergio Ramos Spain Jersey . Hey!" CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- North Carolina coach Larry Fedora knows all about the unpredictable nature of the Atlantic Coast Conferences Coastal Division after his Tar Heels made a surprise climb to the top last season.Staying there? Now that will be tough based on the divisions recent run. While league heavyweights Clemson and Florida State just trade the Atlantic Division crown back and forth, the Coastal keeps making a mess of all the preseason expectations. There hasnt been a repeat division champion since 2011, while the past three champs were all teams picked to finish fifth or worse in the seven-team field. Now its the Tar Heels turn to try to become the first division team to repeat as champion since Virginia Tech did it in 2010-11.Were still working exactly the same, whether people are talking about us or not, Fedora said Thursday during the ACC Kickoff preseason media days. Thats never been the motivating factor anyway, so whether you pick us first, you pick us last, it doesnt really matter. The ACC will release the medias preseason picks next week. And the Tar Heels (11-3) will be a favorite after a season that saw them match the program record for wins, post their first 8-0 ACC mark and even pop into the top 10 of The Associated Press Top 25 poll for the first time since Mack Browns final season before leaving for Texas.UNC went on to lose to top-ranked Clemson 45-37 in the ACC championship game, but returns plenty of talent on offense with tailback Elijah Hood along with receivers Ryan Switzer and Mack Hollins two years removed from a 6-7 season.Offseason workouts have amped up a little bit because were not dwelling on a six-win season or a seven-win season, Switzer said. We had an 11-win season and the opportunity to have even more wins is in front of us, which gets us a lot more pumped up and get us a lot more motivated.Still, things have rarely gone to plan in the Coasstal of late. Alvaro Morata Spain Jersey. .In 2013, Duke went from being picked to finish last to winning the division as the defining moment in David Cutcliffes rebuilding of a long-woeful program. A year later, Georgia Tech won the division after being picked to finish fifth in preseason.Miami was picked to win the Coastal both times but went just 8-8 over those two years. And last season, the Yellow Jackets were picked to repeat as division champ only to finish last at 1-7 as the Tar Heels surprised everyone after being picked fifth.Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson summed it up when asked by a reporter about the Yellow Jackets likely having lower preseason expectations.Well, weve only been picked to win the thing one time and we finished last, Johnson said. So you guys dont have a very good track record. One thing is certain: theres plenty of experience back throughout the division in 2016. Every team has at least six returning starters on offense -- the Yellow Jackets and Hurricanes each boast nine -- with five of the seven returning their starting quarterback. On the defensive side, six of the seven teams have at least six returning defensive starters led by Pittsburgh, which returns eight a year after finishing as division runner-up to UNC.On top of that, theres a new variable this year with roughly half the division teams introducing new coaches: Mark Richt at Miami, Bronco Mendenhall at Virginia and Justin Fuente at Virginia Tech.No one in Charlotte is pretending to know what will happen, either.I think its exciting, Duke all-conference specialist DeVon Edwards said. TORONTO -- Ducks coach Randy Carlyle wasnt exactly sentimental after winning his first game back in Toronto. Authentic Oilers Jersey .Cam Fowler scored a power-play goal in the third period, lifting Anaheim over the Maple Leafs 3-2 on Monday night. Carlyle was at Air Canada Centre for the first time since he was dismissed as Leafs coach almost two years ago.I think a lot of people have made a bigger deal out of it (than I have), Carlyle said. From a personal standpoint, yeah its nice, but the bottom line is our hockey club needed the win more than I needed the win and thats really why were here.Carlyle coached almost 200 regular season games for Toronto, leading the club to its only playoff appearance since 2004. He was fired in January 2015 with the team sliding. After sitting out last season, Carlyle returned to coach the Ducks for a second time this past summer.Despite his assertions otherwise, players in the Ducks dressing room believed the win had extra meaning for him. Were all a family in here so we know what it means to him, captain Ryan Getzlaf said. Theres always a little bit of an edge that you want to win that game.Anaheim had a pair of power-play goals, including Fowlers go-ahead score. Ryan Getzlaf had the other man-up tally, and Nick Ritchie also scored for the Ducks. John Gibson made 33 saves.Former Ducks goaltender Frederik Andersen made 25 stops for the Leafs. Auston Matthews got his ninth goal in 12 games, and Nazem Kadri scored his 11th of the season.Toronto went ahead in the first period when Zach Hyman helped free the puck loose from Getzlaf along the wall. Nikita Zaitsevs point shot was then redirected by Matthews with one hand on his stick. It was Matthewss team-leading 15th goal of the year. He sits second among NHL rookies in goals (15) and points (24), trailing only Winnipegs Patrik Laine.I thought he was our best player, Leafs coach Mike Babcock said. He says Russian athletics officials failed to act on doping in time and hopes that this situation can encourage the management to continue reforms.Litvinov, who has been an outspoken campaigner against drug use in Russian sport, calls on international sports authorities to investigate more cases of doping in other countries, claiming in some throwing events no one knows who really finished in which place at major competitions. He adds: I want all (doping) systems to be shut down. That response comes after a three-member Court of Arbitration for Sport judging panel upheld the IAAFs right to ban the Russian track and field federation and its athletes from international competition, including the Rio de Janeiro Olympics. The International Association of Athletics Federations president adds this is not a day for triumphant statements. I didnt come into this sport to stop athletes from competing. It is our federations instinctive desire to include, not exclude. The CAS panel issued an urgent verdict, two days after Tuesdays appeal hearing, without giving detailed reasons. The court says those reasons should be issued as soon as possible. That is likely before the IOC executive board discusses Sunday whether to impose a blanket ban on all Russian teams from the Olympics next month.CAS secretary general Matthieu Reeb says: our decision is not binding on the IOC.---6:15 a.m.Russia has lost its appeal against the ban on its track and field athletes from competing in the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. The Court of Arbitration for Sport rejected the appeal by 68 Russian track and field athletes seeking to overturn the ban imposed by the IAAF following allegations of state-sponsored doping and cover-ups.The ruling could influence whether the entire Russian Olympic team is banned from the games. (STATS) -- Talk surrounding the FCS playoffs this weekend will center around whos in and whos out of the 24-team field. Rodrigo Palacio Jersey .When the seeded teams with first-round byes begin play in two weeks, the excitement figures to center around the biggest possible change to the field -- fresher matchups rather than the same ol, same ol.While the NCAA Division I FCS selection committee will make the pairings regional when possible, beginning this year, conferences with four or more competing teams will be split over both sides of the bracket. In each of the first three playoffs since they were expanded to 24 in 2013, there has been at least two conferences with four or more qualifiers. This year, the Big Sky, CAA Football, Missouri Valley and Southern conferences are all strong candidates to reach that number.Hopefully what it means, Brian Hutchinson, chair of the selection committee, said Wednesday, is that its more exciting to our fans that theyre not watching the same game theyve already seen before, at least something similar to what theyve seen before, that theyre going to see really good quality opponents, and playing in different places than theyve played. If thats what that means and it generates a little bit more excitement about the championship, then I think thats probably a very, very good thing. The change in policy occurred following conference unrest over last years field, which included all five qualifiers from the Missouri Valley Football Conference being placed in one half of the bracket through regionalization, which can minimize travel and expenses. The playoffs consist of 10 conference champions which receive automatic bids and 14 at-large selections. There are eight first-round games on Nov. 26, with the winners advancing to meet the seeded teams in the second round. The championship game will be held Jan. 7 in Frisco, Texas.Six of last years eight second-round games had been played during the regular season -- three were between teams from the same conference. That is less likely to happen this year.I do think its very possible that we have an opportunity for a little bit less regionalization this year than weve had in previous years, Hutchinson said. One, because of who the teams are that are vying for the championship and, two, because we have a little more flexibility in our bracketing principles to ensure that we avoid some common seasonal matchups. Its not something weve talked about specifically yet, but in sort of reading the tea leaves, I think thats where we are.The other big change for the committee has been the release of Top 10 rankings each of the last three weeks, intended to create interest in the playoffs and basically a preview to what teams could earn seeds.Hutchinson says the margin between the top six ranked teams has been razor-thin and is part of the reason that, as all six have continued to win games, Sam Houston State dropped from No. 2 to No. 5 in the second ranking, Jacksonville State dropped from No. 1 to No. 3 in the third and final ranking, and North Dakota State rose from No. 4 to No. 1 over the final two rankings. Its not that significant if you know how closely ranked they were in terms of just the way our point system works, Hutchinson said.Hutchinson, who is the Morehead State athletic director, said the biggest factors when evaluating a team for the field are overall record, results against Division I opponents, record against other conferences that have automatic qualifiers, head-to-head results against other potential qualifiers, common opponents records and the Simple Rating System, which quantifies the strength of a teams schedule.---=FCS CO-GAME OF THE WEEK=The Matchup: No. 9 North Carolina A&T (9-1, 7-0 MEAC) at No. 24 North Carolina Central (8-2, 7-0)Kickoff: 2 p.m. ET at OKelly-Riddick Stadium (10,000) in Durham, North CarolinaTelevision: ESPN2Series: North Carolina A&T leads 49-33-5 (last meeting: North Carolina Central won 21-16 in Greensboro on Nov. 21, 2015)The Skinny: Its winner-take-all -- the outright MEAC championship and Celebration Bowl bid. The losing team can be considered for an at-large bid to the FCS playoffs. N.C. A&T coach Rod Broadway was N.C. Centrals coach from 2003-06. The visiting Aggies have won all of their MEAC games by an average of nearly 24 points. All-American RB Tarik Cohen (1,769 all-purpose yards, 18 TDs) has gone over 100 rushing yards in each of his three games against the Eagles, gaining 203 yards and two TDs in a 2014 loss. N.C. Central QB Malcolm Bell, who has thrown for the most yards (2,007) and touchdowns (15) in the MEAC, will attack an Aggies defense that ranks last in pass defense. DEs Antiono Brown (7) and Henry-Ajudua (6.5) rank third and fourth, respectively, in the MEAC in sacks.Prediction: Hovering over the Aggies during a glorious three-year run are losses to N.C. Central to end the last two regular seasons. N.C. A&T, 28-21.---=FCS CO-GAME OF THE WEEK=The Matchup: No. 11 Central Arkansas (9-1, 8-0 Southland) at No. 1 Sam Houston State (10-0, 8-0)Kickoff: 3:30 p.m. ET at Bowers Stadium (12,975) in Huntsville, TexasTelevision: ESPN3Series: Tied 5-5 (last meeting: Sam Houston State won 42-13 in Conway, Arkansas, on Nov. 21, 2015)The Skinny: The Southland Conference championship and outright bid to the FCS playoffs are at stake. The loser is at risk of falling from a first-round bye. UCA, the nations best at defending the run, has limited opponents to 26 minutes of ball control and is the only FCS team to rank in the national top 10 in total defense (300.7 ypg) and scoring defense (16.8 ppg). Top WRs Jatavious Wilson and Tremon Smith (52 receptions each) also are threats on kickoff and punt returns, respectively. It took until last Saturdays 10th game of the season for Sam Houston to fall behind an opponent. The Bearkats have the No. 2 passing offense in the FCS and QB Jeremiah Briscoe has thrown for 45 TDs (three shy of the Southland single-season record), but their team runs the ball over 46 percent of the time, led by Remus Bulmer and Corey Avery (combined 1,430 yards and 15 TDs).Prediction: The Bearkats surely wont be playing with the usual early lead, so its time to answer the challenge.
