He was attended to by trainers on the field for a couple minutes before going to the locker room.Hoyer was 4 of 11 for 49 yards. He started for Jay Cutler, who missed his fifth straight game with a right thumb injury. The only other quarterback on the Bears active roster is Matt Barkley, who started Chicagos next series. The Bears also lost right guard Kyle Long in the second quarter to an arm injury.---AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and http://twitter.com/AP-NFL Devon Travis Jersey . -- Vincent Lecavalier got everything but the desired result in his return to Tampa Bay. With their top three point guards and Kobe Bryant all sidelined by injury, the Lakers signed Marshall out of the D-League on Friday before their home game against Minnesota. Throughout the Tour de France, Australian professional cyclist Richie Porte will be checking in. Here is his latest entry, as told to ESPN contributor Rupert Guinness:Rest day: Berne, SwitzerlandIt was a day where riding your bike cannot get better: Tuesdays second rest day of the Tour de France. We know that from Wednesday on, the days will immediately return to being a punish with the next four stages being in the Alps. So Tuesday was one to appreciate. And that I did, from the moment I got up at 7.30am to when I turned the lights out at night. After breakfast, I went on my rest day ride with my French teammate Ama?l Moinard. We just rolled easy for 47km by the shores of Lake Thun -- what a beautiful lake it is too. When you are racing flat out, especially in the Tour, you dont really get to take in the surroundings, even thought they are often some of Europes most picturesque regions.Today, Tuesday, was one of the rare occasions where you can, while also riding our bikes. For Ama?l and I it was also a nice opportunity to catch up with some quiet and relaxed chat away from the bells and whistles -- and the ever present madness -- of the Tour de France. We spoke about the next four days in the Alps: how we see them unfold, who is looking good and all the difference scenarios of which there are many before Sundays finish. We also chatted about our plans for after the Tour. We have vastly different plans too. I will be heading to Rio for the Olympic Games, whereas Ama?l will be returning home to Saint Laurent du Var near Nice and some family time his wife, Morgane, andd children live. Roberto Alomar Blue Jays Jersey. But with four successive days in the Alps of the Tour in mind, we didnt forget the job at hand. We still have to focus on the job that awaits this week, and recovery for that was vital. We got back from our ride at about 11.30, in time to see the osteopath, have lunch, then a massage, a nap and then the rest of the day with my wife Gemma who arrived on Monday. It all sounds like a slow day, but trust me, it goes by too quickly -- as most good things do.And as I said, it will all seem like a distant memory when we resume racing on Wednesday with the first Alpine stage -- all of it in Switzerland -- from Berne to Finhaut-Emosson. Our minds will have already switched back to race mode by breakfast. We all realise the value of every opportunity between now and the end of the last Alpine stage on Saturday. Are there any vulnerabilities in Sky and Chris Froome who still leads the Tour overall? Of course there are. They exist in the however many hundred kilometres there are to go in the Tour. Unforseen thing can happen. The Tour is not over. I certainly dont see it that way.I dont expect any of the other top contenders see it that way either -- from Froome down. We have all seen -- or experienced -- how the tide can turn for or against you in a grand tour.To be complacent, which I am sure Froome wont be despite his strong position, is to commit a massive error; just as to surrender because of the odds are against you. If West Coast fans thought gun recruit Sam Mitchell was good in 2012, they should have seen him the year before. Terry Steinbach Athletics Jersey . Or a few years later. The former Hawthorn onballer this week added the AFLs greatest individual accolade to his decorated resume, named co-Brownlow Medallist alongside Richmond captain Trent Cotchin, after Essendons Jobe Watson was stripped of the award.Cotchin, who also earned his sole All-Australian selection and was named the AFL coaches associations player of the year in 2012, looks back on it as his best season. Not so Mitchell. Its awkward to say probably not but I dont think so, Mitchell said with a grin on Thursday.I had a strong season, obviously Im sitting here (as a Brownlow Medallist) but probably the year before I was slightly better.I was ineligible (through suspension) and Dane Swan polled 34, which was the most ever at that stage. I think Ive been reasonably consistent over those years. And he has. Mitchell was Hawthorns leading Brownlow vote-getter or runner-up in all but one of the past 10 years - the sole exception being 2014, when he missed nine weeks with a hamstring injury. He polled a career-high 30 votes when he fell short to Swan in 2011 and was arguably just as good in 2015, racking up 26 votes as the Hawks capped off their premiership three-peat.At 34, Mitchell will be the third-oldest active player in the AFL next season behind Western Bulldogs stalwarts Bob Murphy and Matthew Boyd.As with all players, father time is bound to catch up eventually. But Mitchells class and tactical nous suggest the Eagles have plenty to look forward to when he links up with his new teammates later this month. He and Cotchin will receive their Brownlow medals in a private ceremony next month and Mitchell says hes keen for the turmoil surrounding the 2012 award to be put to rest.Theres a lot of things that have happened in the past that have got very little to do with us, he said. But when Ive got my son sitting there and I get a phone call saying youre a Brownlow Medallist, Id be lying if I (said) it was not a joyful experience to share that with my family right at that point. The formidable trio of Canadian receivers -- individually known as Chris Getzlaf, Rob Bagg and Andy Fantuz -- will share the field at Mosaic Stadium one more time on Sunday. TORONTO -- Madeline Flynn didnt know I was watching her.She was sitting in the rafters of the Air Canada Centre between two children, both blond, a boy and a girl. They were in their seats well ahead of Thursdays opening faceoff between Canada and Team Europe. Madeline was older, 70, I would find out, wearing a Canada T-shirt under her black jacket. The girl was sporting a Canada T-shirt, too. The boy was wearing a Sidney Crosby sweater, of course. A grandmother and her grandkids, I thought. Or hoped. Maybe theyre the ones. Then Madeline took a big gulp of a beer, and I knew I had found my girl.In my pocket, I had four great tickets to that nights game: Section 110, Row 12, Seats 1, 2, 3 and 4. Golds, toward one end of the ice, close enough to see and hear the action as though you were in it. In Toronto, the fans are in the upper reaches. The lower bowl is for the stiffs and the suits. It is a world devoid of children. One tiny socket of it was about to change. Its a strange responsibility, choosing which strangers are going to be the lucky ones. I walked around the little catwalks and concourses at the top of the arena, hemming and hawing. I saw a father and a son, young, glasses, eager on the edge of his seat. I saw another father and son in matching Canada sweaters. I liked the way they were leaning into each other. But then I saw Madeline, and her grandkids, and her beer. I was worried she would think I was a creep when I walked up to her, because I am kind of a creep. I asked her whether the kids were in fact her grandkids.Yes, she said. The girl was Siobhan, 11. The boy was Jack, 9.Was it just the three of them there?Yes, she said.Did they want to come watch the game with me down by the ice?Madelines face lit up like a firework. Yes, yes, yes! she said. The four of us made our way downstairs. I cant believe it, Madeline said. We came out of the concourse into the blinding white light of the ice. Not many seats were down the stairs in front of us. Thousands of them were up. We walked down.Madeline took out her phone and took a picture. I asked if she was going to send it to anyone. Absolutely, she said. She told me she has four sons, each hockey crazy. Im going to make them drool!By one of those miracles of fate, I had found the perfection that is Madeline Flynn. She was a stay-at-home mom. She had her four boys in a span of five years. They were a handful. There was an outdoor rink across the street from their house. We went there every day, she said. I loved every minute of it.Her boys all grew up to play the game; now they are scattered across North America, but three of them still coach. A son who lives in New Brunswick floods a rink in his yard every winter; its surrounded by old fishing nets strung through with lights. Madeline said its filled with kids from the time they get out of schooll until 10 oclock at night. Catfish Hunter Jersey. he has nine grandkids, and they all play sports too. They call her Grammy. Siobhan is a center on her hockey team. I asked why she liked hockey.I like when they fight, she said. Her favorite player is Steven Stamkos.Jack plays defense. What does he love?Bodychecking, he said. His favorite player was obvious from his sweater.Madeline has spent thousands and thousands of hours watching the game. I love the speed, the excitement and the fan participation, she said. I just feel that Im there. Im never bored watching hockey. Her favorite player is Carey Price, through and through, she said. The game started. Its so loud down here, Madeline said. I dont think Ive ever seen people watch hockey as intently as Madeline and her grandkids. Their eyes never left the puck.Madeline was subtle about it, but she used the play to pass on little lessons to Siobhan and Jack. They werent always about the game. Or they were about the game but also about something larger.Siobhan was worried Canada wasnt taking enough shots. Thats OK, Madeline told her. You have to have quality shots.Brent Burns tried to make a rush but lost the puck. You cant do it alone, Madeline said. Thats why its a team game.John Tavares had a wide-open net in front of him and instead hit the post. They dont know how much time they have, she said.Madeline went to the washroom, and I told Siobhan how lucky she was to have such a great grammy. She nodded. She is awesome, Siobhan said.Team Europe carried a 1-0 lead deep into the third. I told Madeline that if she had to leave, that was OK. Oh God, no, she said. Are you kidding? The kids were staying with her that night. I mentioned school the next morning. Theyre going to be late, Madeline said. There was maybe five minutes left. Im still hopeful, Madeline said. She asked the young woman in front of her to turn her hat inside out, which she did. Now we have our rally cap! Madeline said. If we get one, well get two. With 2:53 left, Patrice Bergeron got one.Siobhan said something that I didnt hear above the roaring crowd, Madeline roaring with it. What did she say? Its her positive energy, Siobhan said.A little more than two minutes later, with less than a minute to go, Brad Marchand got Madelines second, maybe 100 feet in front of her eyes. She was screaming on her feet, her grandkids jumping around beside her. She smothered them in hugs. She smothered me in a hug. It was one of the best hugs of my life. I told her I was so glad to have met her. I might have told her I loved her. Our eyes were maybe a little wet.I will never forget this! Madeline cried over the noise of the crowd. Absolutely wonderful! You dont know how much time you have. Frustrated St Kilda coach Alan Richardson will seek answers from the AFL after several questionable umpiring decisions during the Saints loss to North Melbourne. Tony Phillips Athletics Jersey .St Kildas finals chances all but evaporated with the 23-point loss at Etihad Stadium on Saturday night in Brent Harveys record-breaking 427th AFL game.Richardson agreed his side had been deficient in a number of areas but also noted his discontent with some umpiring decisions.Well look to get a bit of clarity on the below the knees contact - that was costly tonight, Richardson said.I reckon weve shifted a bit as an industry with how thats adjudicated at the minute. That was really designed to stop people getting their legs broken from someone who slid in from a fair way away, not someone who is desperately diving on the ball and happens to hit someone in the knee. And I reckon that probably needs a bit of a look at and a readjustment given the way it was introduced.Well seek some clarity on that. Jarrad Waite goaled from just such a free kick in a pivotal period of the game in the third quarter. The Saints were ninth going into the clash and desperately needed a win against the eighth-placed Roos to keep their slim finals chances alive.Richardson said he had briefed his players on how to approach a contest where so much was at stake on a night where an opposition player would be widely and loudly heralded. If were going to be any good as a footy team, and thats what we plan to be, we want to be in these sorts of games where theres a bit more than four points (on the line) ... theres a chance that you can prolong your season, he said.We want to be in those games. Our guys need to embrace the opportunity and the challenge. Last week (against the Western Bulldogs) was positive but we had too many who didnt get it done tonight against a quality team so we dont get the result, but there was still some positives.Well either be losers or learners and weve got a lot to learn from here. CINCINNATI -- The Cincinnati Bengals defense is on notice, and they know it. Luis Sardinas Mariners Jersey .Bengals defensive coordinator Paul Guenther said Tuesdays practice was one of the best of the year. While part of that might be attributed to a refreshed team coming off a bye, the larger part is likely due to the changes Guenther has vowed to make after a 3-4-1 start.Players who arent performing, even core veteran players, either figure to lose significant playing time or will ride the bench for a while as the Bengals try to correct whats gone wrong. We just have to get back to doing [things] the way we do it, the way Im used to seeing it all the time. Its not just going to show up on Sundays, he said Tuesday. Weve got to do it throughout the week. Weve got to be in good tackling position, weve got to be staying on top of coverage, being good communicators in the coverage and stopping the run and rushing the passer. Those are the things that if we can do it -- and I think we can do it -- with whatever guys we have out there, for the next eight weeks Im going to give them everything Ive got.Guenther has grown tired of the missed tackles, penalties and general lack of production that was evident when the Bengals gave up 546 yards in a tie with the Redskins before the bye. While replacing some of the underperforming players isnt guaranteed to fix things, he said things cant go on as they have.Frustrated with the performance, Guenther went back and watched every defensive snap of the season and noted issues that needed to be corrected. Then he made notes on each individual player and their issues as well. Players were shown film of those issues during position meetings, with some having to meet with Guenther individually.I watched every individual player and I wrote some notes and I met with those guys about some things they need to clean up and hopefully we can get it done, Guenther said.Message received.Changes are going to come, safety George Iloka said Tuesday. I just see it as were not playing as well as a defense as we need to right now. They always say the definition of a crazy man is someone who does the same thing on and on and expects to get different results. So, of course, they have to switch things up, whether its personnel, play calling, plays, packages, whatever it may be. Theyre going to try to tweak it to get different results as they should because we havent as a collective whole gotten it done. One of those changes is re-signing defensive end Wallace Gilberry, whom the Bengals parted ways with in the offseason. Gilberry, who was briefly with the Lions this season, will play against the Giants on Monday night in certain packages. The other changes, which havent been announced yet, are swapping personnel, which could mean more snaps for younger defenders like cornerbacks Josh Shaw and Darqueze Dennard, defensive end Will Clarke and rookie linebacker Nick Vigil. We have a lot of guys that have been here a long time, that have been fixtures in our system for a long time, Guenther said during the bye. But, like I told them, its a production business, so even though youve been kind of a guy thats been here and I think theres going to be a younger player that I think can do it better at this point, whether it be for 15 more snaps, Ive got to look at that because some of the guys that have been here, that have been fixtures here, for some reason or another, whether its age or whatever it is, they are not playing at a high level and Ive got to figure out where I can inject some other guys that can do it better, or at least try to. SOUTH BEND, Ind. Kris Bryant Cubs Jersey . -- Notre Dames extended quarterback battle came to an end on Wednesday, as the No. 18 Fighting Irish named DeShone Kizer their starter, following his six-touchdown performance in part-time duty during the opener.I had a conversation with Coach [Brian] Kelly today, and he decided that this week I was going to get the first snap for sure, and he kind of congratulated me on fighting through the process and encouraged me to maintain the same mindset and just ensured me that I would be the guy on Saturday, Kizer said Wednesday.Asked if the job is fully his, Kizer said: As of now, Im expecting to be the only guy. The conversation was just more to let me know Ill be the guy.Well see how the game goes. Obviously,?Malik [Zaire]?is an amazing athlete, and theres going to come a time where youre definitely?going to see him on the field, I believe. That hasnt really been talked about too much. All I know is that [Kelly] told me to prepare to be the starter on Saturday, and thats what I plan to do.Kizer completed 15 of 24 passes in Sundays season-opening double-overtime loss at Texas, throwing for 215 yards and five touchdowns with no turnovers. Kizer added 77 yards and one more touchdown on 13 carries.Kizer started the opener and led Notre Dame on a touchdown drive at the outset of the game, but Zaire came in on the second series. The two rotated throughout much of the first half, with Zaire starting the third quarter, before Kizer played the rest of the game. Zaire completed 2 of 5 passes for 23 yards during Sundays contest.Kelly had said during camp that both quarterbacks would play in the opener.A redshirt sophomore, Kizer burst onto the national scene last year, replacing an injured Zaire in Week 2, after Zaire suffered a broken right ankle. Kizer went 8-3 as a starter in 2015, completing 63 percent of his passes for 2,884 yards, with 21 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He added 520 rushing yards last season and 10 rushing touchdowns. Joe Maddon Cubs Jersey . - After leading the Saints to a fourth playoff appearance in five seasons, Drew Brees expressed confidence in the direction of his team and, perhaps more importantly, showed a willingness to listen to contract proposals if the team needs his help getting under the NFLs salary cap. http://www.baseballcubsauthentic.com/ernie-banks-cubs-jersey/ . There was no hesitation from the 40th-ranked Pospisil, from Vernon, B.C., who admitted that he cut back on his training sessions over the last few days to conserve energy as the long ATP season finishes next week at the Paris Masters. Moeen Ali really isnt the sort to roar for his inclusion in a team or storm into the coachs room demanding explanations. When asked earlier in the tour whether it was an arm ball that had earned a wicket, he answered, Nah, just one that didnt spin. When he found himself praising the number of maidens he had bowled, he added I dont do that very often. When asked to describe his dismissals in Mohali he uses the word crap and when asked whether he and Adil Rashid can replicate the success of Englands spinners in 2012 (when Graeme Swann and Monty Panesar took 19 wickets between them) he responds by laughing out loud. Indeed, when asked whether Rashids improved performance with the ball could put his own position under pressure, he agreed: Its just a matter of time.He is as modest and unassuming as international sportsmen come. He will never have a nickname like The Big Show (even if he does have more international centuries than Glenn Maxwell). So perhaps it is relevant that, very gently, very politely, even a little bit apologetically, he has suggested he might like to have a settled batting position.Moeen has batted everywhere from No. 1 to No. 9 in the Test team. He has opened the batting and the bowling. He has been pushed down the order to accommodate others and then promoted to cover for their failures. He has been asked to thrash for quick runs, block for draws, see off the new ball and shepherd the tail. His versatility is, no doubt, his greatest asset, but it might also be a bit of a curse. It is hardly a surprise that he has looked confused at times.Close in the future, he said, reiterating the point that he is not demanding anything, just expressing an aspiration, Id like to have a position I can try to nail down.Almost immediately, he corrects himself.Obviously, I dont mind. I just get on with it. Whatever they tell me.But then the elaboration hints at his frustration a little more.I was down to bat five from Bangladesh onwards, he said. But form or balance of the side meant I was pushed up to four and then three in the last innings. I dont have a clue where Im batting here yet. Ill probably find out tomorrow.Perhaps the most revealing aspect of the conversation occurs when he is asked if his modesty, his humility, his niceness counts against him at times. He smiles.Probably, yes, he said. Ive been told sometimes thats not a good thing. Once my dad pulled me out of a club game when I was told I was batting seven. He said No, youre not, youre not batting seven.I was about 13 and I made the first team, and they told me I was batting seven. He said, No, youre not playing ... lets go. But since then Ive just got on with it.While the floating role is a frustration, Moeen enjoys the approach of this England side. He appreciates thee encouragement to attack and the lack of consequences when it backfires. Joe Maddon Jersey. He enjoyed the opportunity for a few days away from the tour, too - something that would have been unthinkable a few years ago - and admits he never thought about cricket once over three days chilling out in Dubai. He certainly hasnt been beating himself up for the way he was dismissed in Mohali (caught at fine leg and mid-on). He doesnt feel he has to be less attacking, he just has to attack better.I naturally play in quite a positive way anyway, he said. I just need to try to go back to how I batted in the first Test and try to replicate that. Sometimes it can go a bit too positive. We want to be positive, but in the right manner.I felt all right in Mohali. I know it was a crap way to get out, but it was just the execution in both innings. Im not too down about it. In the second innings, I was going to go over the top. I just wanted to send one of the guys back on to the boundary, but I didnt execute it well. His praise for Rashid is as warm as it genuine. Recognising both the contribution of Englands spin consultant, Saqlain Mushtaq, and the benefits of playing more regularly, Moeen even started to make a case for Rashids inclusion ahead of his own.Hes a quality spinner, Moeen said. Hes obviously bowling really well, and Im really happy for him. He deserves it and I think his confidence is going to grow, the more he plays.Saqlain has been brilliant for both of us - the confidence he gives us both - and Adils confidence has definitely grown as a bowler. The three back-to-back games were good for him, because hes got into a rhythm, and now he just comes out, doesnt think about it too much and lands it on a spot pretty much straightaway.Theyve played him quite well, but hes picking up wickets. Hes bowling really, really well. Is he snapping at my heels? Yes. Its just a matter of time, really. For most cricketers such a situation might create some unease. But Moeen, speaking after meeting a group of young female athletes from under-privileged families in his role as an ambassador for the British Asian Trust, has a refreshing sense of perspective over such matters.Pressure to me is people who cant afford food or who are struggling to live, he says. This is just a game of cricket. Ill give it my best shot. But if I dont play well, I dont play well. Theres no point not sleeping at night over it.These under-privileged people... it puts everything in perspective, doesnt it? This is just a game of cricket. You give your best, but thats all you can do. Pressure is to survive in certain areas. Theres more to life than bat and ball. Id like to especially thank the crowd out there; theyve really supported me very well. Im very thankful to them. I would like to thank the Indian government. Theyve been really supportive, as have Badminton Association of India. I am really grateful to them because they have prayed for me and made this possible. Thank you.Did you ever feel that you were the second-best player on court during that final? In the first game, I was down but then I came back and won the game. In the second game, I believed that I could do it. I think Carolina Marin played extremely well. After the second game, the third was quite equal. I just gave a few simple errors, and she took the lead of about 3-4 points. I feel that she maintained that throughout the match.First of all, I congratulate her and I feel overall it was a good match for me. It was a good week for me, because I had not thought that I would come to the finals and get a silver medal at the Olympics. Of course, in a match one should lose and one should win, and maybe it was just hers to win today.?You beat three players ranked higher than you coming into this match, but Marin is the World No.1. What aspects of her game did you find toughest to deal with?I think (going into) today, I didnt tell myself that she is No.1. I felt that it was anybodys game today. Whoever really fights hard and gives their best would be the winner. I think both of us did that, and one should win and one should lose. Both of us were really very aggressivve on court, and we wanted this medal. Odubel Herrer Team Venezuela Jersey. Because this is the Olympics, and its big - the gold medal match. Anybody would think that I have to take it. Both of us fought for it, and I feel its her day today.Youve had a few early losses this year. Just what changed in Rio?I think Ive really worked hard before coming here, and Ive been training really hard. There are so many sacrifices also, because Gopi sir [her coach Pullela Gopichand] has made many sacrifices, and all of those days, he was on court with me, making me do my training. There was one more player in (Kidambi) Srikanth, and he was also working really hard. I think he too played a really brilliant game. I think my parents have also really worked hard for me, made many sacrifices for me. And I have got a medal for them now.You are among the top 10 singles players of the world now. Whats the next goal? Top five? Winning a Super Series title?Definitely I would try to win (a Super Series title) and from now, I think it will change a lot. With the same confidence, I would go much further and win some of the Super Series titles.Comparisons with Saina Nehwal are inevitable, because she has achieved so much in the sport. Today, do you feel like more of an equal player than you did before because of what you have achieved?I think everybody until the top 20 or 30 rankings is an equal. You dont know when what might happen and things might change anytime any day. So its a different comparison with everybody else. I think with everybody its a different strategy and a different style of play.I think with Saina, its a different thing, because she has achieved a lot more and shes very much elder to me. Yes, shes achieved a lot more. Today finally, I think I have achieved something in my life, because this is my dream. Its anybodys dream to get a medal at the Olympics and Ive done it. Im really very happy. So, Gold in Tokyo 2020?Hopefully yes (smiling), I will definitely work hard to get a gold.Gopi just told us that he didnt give you your phone for the last two months. Now that youve got the silver, what are the one or two things that you want to do when you get home? Now Im in a mood to celebrate, so I want to go back to India as soon as possible. Yes, of course, Im going to get my phone back ?{laughs}. And then Im going to eat a bit of junk food, so thats ok for today, because Ive got a medal and Ive achieved something. Obviously, hes (Gopichand) is not going to say no. CHICAGO -- Jay Cutler targeted Brandon Marshall and no one else. Jake McGee Jersey . He zipped a pass into double coverage, only to get intercepted. The new and supposedly improved offence stagnated and the defence made up for it. Same old Chicago Bears? On the surface, it sure seemed like it. Cutler looked shaky again and the defence came through, harassing Philip Rivers early on and setting the tone for the Bears in a 33-28 preseason victory over the San Diego Chargers on Thursday night. All eyes remain on the quarterback after the Bears made some big changes on offence in the off-season, hiring coach Marc Trestman to replace Lovie Smith and revising their line. So far, the results are mixed at best. "There are certain plays were running for the first time against a live defence other than the Bears," Cutler said. "There are certain things you just have to experience. Sometimes you make mistakes, and sometimes its going to go off without a hitch. When I was in Denver, we ran that offence for three years. Year 3, I think all of us had a great grasp of it. We dont have that luxury right now." Cutler played a quarter and completed 4 of 5 passes for 38 yards and a touchdown, but the only receiver he targeted was Marshall, who is recovering from off-season hip surgery and sat out last week. Field position played a role in that, as did the Bears not wanting to show too much of their playbook. Still, thats not a good sign for a team that wants to distribute the ball more evenly this year. On a more positive note for the Bears offence, Matt Forte ran for 74 yards and a touchdown on eight attempts after carrying just once in a loss at Carolina in the preseason opener. His 58-yard run around the left end set up the games first touchdown, a 5-yard strike from Cutler to Marshall. Rookies Kyle Long and Jordan Mills held their ground at right guard and tackle. Devin Hester also showed a spark, returning the games opening kickoff 45 yards. And reserve Michael Ford ran one back 100 yards in the third quarter, leading to a 3-yard scoring run by Michael Bush. The first-team defence sacked Rivers three times and forced two turnovers, even though star defensive end Julius Peppers (hamstring), defensive tackle Henry Melton (concussion) and linebacker D.J. Williams (strained right calf) sat out with injuries. The Chargers lost again after getting pounded by Seattle last week. Rivers downplayed the turnovers, even though he got swarmed as soon as he stepped on the field. He was 5 of 9 for 50 yards with an interception, and he lost a fumble on a sack by Shea McClellin, leading to a 3-yard run by Forte that made it 14-0 near the end of the first quarter. "I think that can be overanalyzed," Rivers said. "They are what they are, but I dont see it as a step back. I have seen some bad play and non-rhythmic offences in the preseason, then they have great years, and I have seen some great drives in the preseason and they all go for nothing in the regular season." Backup Charlie Whitehurst came in early in the second quarter and was 6 for 9 for 69 yards and a touchdown. He fumbled away his first snap, leading to a field goal by Robbie Gould, but he also led the Chargers on an 80-yard TD drive late in the half. Cutler got sacked twice on the opening drive, an ominous start after he threw an interception on Chicagos first play from scrimmage the previous week. Jarret Johnson burst through the left side to force a fumble on second down that the Bears recovered, and Cutler held the ball too long on the next play, resulting in a sack for Corey Liuget. Forte set up Chicagos first touchdown on the next possession when he turned a pitch into a 58-yard sprint down the left side to the 5. Marshall, who sat out last week after having off-season hip surgery, then caught a strike from Cutler in tight coverage to give the Bears a 7-0 lead. They had a chance to add to it after Chris Conte picked off Rivers at the 35 on the next possession. But on the first play, Cutler got intercepted by Donald Butler trying to hit Marshall in double coverage. "I didnt misread," Cutler said. "I knew what I was doing. (I) kind of got clipped, I let it go, but those are the ones that you kind of want to check down after you see the picture." Trestman tried to take some blame for the pick, saying the Bears had not run that play much. He also made it clear he wasnt thrilled with Cutlers decision, saying, "Theres a time to force the ball and use your arm and put it up into man-to-man coverage when theres a single man and a single player, and that really wasnt one of those situations." That Peppers sat out his second game was a bit of a surprise, considering Trestman had said he would play. The Chargers held out Danny Woodhead because of his undisclosed injury and receiver Malcolm Floyd after he hurt his right knee in practice on Monday. Rookie linebacker Manti Teo also sat out as expected after spraining his right foot against Seattle last week. Liuget left late in the first quarter with a shoulder injury. And Bears third-string quarterback Matt Blanchard broke a knuckle on his left hand in the second half, forcing Josh McCown back into the game. Trestman wasnt sure how long he would be out but did say the Bears will need to bring in another QB. Trevor Story Rockies Jersey . Its sharpness matched my mind. This was no night to go to sleep. http://www.baseballrockiesonline.com/gerardo-parra-rockies-jersey/ . -- Playing time has been limited for Maxim Tissot this season, so the Montreal Impact defender made the most of his first scoring opportunity on Saturday. NORMAN, Okla. -- Desperate for a strong performance from its defense, Oklahoma found the perfect opponent in Kansas feeble offense.No. 16 Oklahomas offense did its usual thing -- rolling up 538 yards -- in a 56-3 rout of Kansas. Baker Mayfield threw for 236 yards and four touchdowns and receiver Dede Westbrook scored on a 71-yard punt return and a 41-yard reception for Oklahoma (6-2, 5-0).But the Sooners defense -- much maligned after allowing 854 yards a week earlier in a 66-59 win over Texas Tech -- also did its part this time, limiting Kansas (1-7, 0-5) to 170 yards, the fewest by an Oklahoma opponent this season. Its positive to play well, Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops said. Its one week. Next week will be another journey. In our world, you live week to week. Right now, the guys responded and really played well in all parts. It was a defensive outing featuring two particularly memorable plays. After Kansas -- then trailing 7-3 -- recovered a fumble at the Oklahoma 25, cornerback Jordan Thomas ended the threat with an interception at the 2-yard line, getting both feet just inbounds, then tossing the football away forcefully, as if to make a point. In the third quarter, Jordan Evans also picked off a pass by Kansas quarterback Montell Cozart and weaved his way for a 33-yard return for a touchdown, which meant the Sooners defense outscored Kansas offense.Sure, it came against Kansas, a team that now has lost 17 straight Big 12 games and 39 straight road games overall. But after the Texas Tech debacle, it was what the Sooners defenders needed.Weve been through a lot this past week, Oklahoma defensive coordinator Mike Stoops said. The guys played with a lot more energy and focus. Obviously, we got embarrassed a week ago. . The guys practiced well and prepared well and went out and executed. Its not that difficult.Kansas coach David Beaty noted the Sooners shut down the Jayhawks despite the absence of key players such as linebacker Ogbonnia Okoronkwo, who sat out with an injury.I have to take my hat off to them because I know theyve got a bunch of guys injured on their defense and they played a pretty good game, Beaty said.Mayfield, who threw a school-record seven touchdown passes against Texas Tech, threw three in the second quarter against the Jayhawks -- the 41-yarder to Westbrook, a 15-yarder to Mark Andrews and a 9-yarders to Dimitri Flowwers, the latter with 20 seconds left before halftime to put Oklahoma up 28-3. DJ LeMahieu Rockies Jersey. Mayfield finished 16-of-24 passing.Mayfields 15 touchdown passes in the Sooners last three games are a program record.THE TAKEAWAYKansas: The Jayhawks will win another Big 12 game and win on the road again someday, but that W probably wont come against the likes of Oklahoma or West Virginia, Kansas next opponent. But a home game against Iowa State looms on Nov. 12. Maybe that first streak ends then?Oklahoma: The Sooners said after starting the season 1-2, with losses to Houston and Ohio State, that they still had the Big 12 title as motivation. Now Oklahoma is atop the league, but the Sooners must finish the season with the gauntlet of Baylor, West Virginia and Oklahoma State.POLL IMPLICATIONSNo. 10 West Virginias loss at Oklahoma State and No. 13 Boise States loss at Wyoming should open up at least two spots for Oklahoma to move up in the Top 25 .WILD WESTBROOKWestbrook finished with 230 all-purpose yards. His punt return for a touchdown was the first by an Oklahoma player since Jalen Saunders vs. Oklahoma State on Dec. 7, 2013. After Kansas first-quarter field goal, Westbrook returned the ensuing kickoff out of the end zone for what looked like another touchdown, but a holding penalty wiped it out.Early in the second quarter, he made a diving catch on the 41-yard touchdown pass from Mayfield, one of his five receptions for 105 yards. Later in the quarter, on a receiver option on a third-and-16 play, he eschewed passing the ball and instead ran 24 yards for a first down.In five October games, he had 881 receiving yards and scored 12 touchdowns. Nine of those scoring plays (including the punt return) went for 40 or more yards. He has 1,035 receiving yards through eight games, making him only the sixth Oklahoma player to go over the 1,000-yard mark for a season. He is as good as advertised. Hes even better when youre looking at him down there on the sideline, Beaty said I mean, hes a really talented guy.UP NEXT:Kansas: The Jayhawks will travel next Saturday to face an angry West Virginia team coming off its first loss of the season.Oklahoma: It will be a short week for the Sooners, who will visit Iowa State on Thursday. STORRS, Conn. Cheap Ray Ban Outlet . -- Katie Lou Samuelson was expected take on more of the scoring load for UConn this season and is meeting those expectations. The sophomore put up a career-high in points for the second consecutive game Tuesday night. Her 29 led the nations second-ranked team to a 98-65 win over Dayton.Samuelson, who had 28 points on Sunday against LSU, hit 10 of her 17 shots and was 4 of 8 from 3-point range. She also had six assists and pulled down six rebounds.I know I got a lot of 3s against LSU and Im not going to get that every game, she said. So I just tried to do more than just stand on the 3-point line.Gabby Williams tied her single-game high with 19 points, pulled down 11 rebounds and had a career-high five assists for the Huskies (4-0). Napheesa Collier chipped in with 22 points to help extend the nations longest winning streak to 79 games.Jenna Burdette and Lauren Cannatelli each scored 15 for Dayton (2-2), which had won two straight. The Flyers led 10-5 midway through the first quarter. Burdette had five points during that run. But the Huskies scored the next 15 and led 22-13 going into the second quarter.Samuelson had 20 points by intermission and it was 51-31 at halftime.UConn made 48.7 percent of its shots and outscored the Flyers 50-30 in the paint. We got some easy buckets, which we didnt get at LSU or Baylor , UConn coach Geno Auriemma said. We got a couple tonight and that really helped. And once again, if you shoot the ball well, everything looks good.THE BIG PICTUREUConn: The Huskies streak seems almost certain to reach at least 80 games, but after that things could get interesting again. UConn began the season with wins over two top-12 opponents in Florida State and Baylor. They play Chattanooga next, but face No. 18 DePaul, No. 14 Texas, top-ranked Notre Dame, No. 8 Ohio State and No. 6 Maryland, all before January. UConns winning streak is the third longest in college basketball history, behind only its own program record of 90 straight from 2008-10 and the UCLA mens record of 88 consecutive victories from 1971-74.Dayton: The Flyers had bounced back nicely after a season-opening loss at home to Quinnipiac, with road wins over Wisconsin and Princeton. First-year coach Shauna Greens team was picked to finish second in the Atlantic 10 and believed a trip to Storrs could help prepare them for the conference season. She was pleased with the effort.I dont care about the score; I dont look at the scoreboard, said Green, who was an assistant until Jim Jabir resigned for personal reasons in September. Thats all weve been preaching -- you have to fight. It doesnt matter, just continue to play hard and with some energy and some passion.STAT OF THE GAMEThe Huskies had 27 assists on 37 baskets, with four players dishing out four or more. Freshman Crystal Dangerfield led the way with nine assists, followed by Samuelson (6), Williams (5) and Kia Nurse (4).OTHER STREAKSThe 79-game streak isnt the only run UConn is on. The Huskies have won 111 games against unranked opponents, 51 straight home games and 23 straight regular season non-conference games (116 of 120). Theyve also gone 853 games without losing back-to-back contests.POLL IMPLICATIONSUConns ranking likely wont be affected by this game. Barring any upsets, they should stay where they are until the Dec. 7 showdown with top-ranked Notre Dame in South Bend.UP NEXTUConn: After playing four games in nine days, the Huskies are off for the Thanksgiving holiday before hosting their first game off campus in Hartford on Nov. 29 against Chattanooga.Auriemma said the team wont practice again until Saturday . Most of the players will be traveling home. The others, he said, are invited to his house for turkey and lasagna.Weve been traveling a lot and I think the kids are tired, he said.Dayton: The Flyers are off to Bimini in the Bahamas for the Junkanoo Jam, where they will face Georgia Tech on Friday and then either Missouri or Creighton.Thats three great teams from Power Five conferences, Green said. If we can get two wins down there, that just builds your resume for later on in March. I really want to see how we respond to this and see our mental toughness, see how we take this and use it to get better. Ray Ban Sunglasses Outlet .Y. -- Syracuse has turned up the defence at the right time all season, and when High Point threatened to pull off a monumental upset the second-ranked Orange did what they do best with their quick hands and savvy play. Ray Ban Outlet .875,000, avoiding arbitration. Clippards deal Monday means all eight Nationals players who filed for arbitration wound up settling before a hearing. http://www.cheaprbsunglassoutelt.us/ . Andreas Johnson had a goal and two assists while Jacob de la Rose also scored for Sweden (2-0-0). Esa Lindell and Rasmus Ristolainen replied for Finland (1-1-0) Lindell opened the scoring for Finland just 41 seconds into the game, but the hosts quickly regained their composure and tied the score less than four minutes later on Wennbergs first of the game. North Queenslands NRL premiership defence wasnt just ended by Cronulla - it was obliterated.Friday nights score of 32-20 did more than flatter the Cowboys as they ran in three consolation tries in the final 10 minutes to save some face. After surviving an extra-time thriller against Brisbane last week, many questioned if they would have enough in the tank to beat Cronulla if it went to the dying stages. But the Allianz Stadium contest barely lasted that long. The Cowboys looked like a heavyweight boxer trying to hang in for the final bell at the end of the 12th round. The only problem was, there was still the best part of 75 minutes to go.Fullback Lachlan Coote knocked on with his first kick return, and by the end of the first half-hour, North Queensland had completed only four sets.In a two-minute period that summarised the match, Johnathan Thurston was put on his backside by a rampaging Valentine Holmes on a kick return in the 39th minute.A moment later, the Sharks ended the set by rag-dolling the Cowboys co-captain back into his own goal to force a line dropout. The halftime siren went and the Cowboys were saved of defending an extra set, but by then the Cowboys had conceded double the running metres of Cronulla, mmade an extra 49 tackles and had just 35 per cent of the ball.ddddddddddddIts extremely hard when you keep shooting yourself in the foot, Thurston said.It doesnt matter whether youre playing normal games or semi-final games you need to be playing your best footy and we were far from our best tonight. We just kept turning the ball over and we couldnt transition from defending well into attack and our fifth tackle options werent great, we didnt have too many of them.Coote rebounded almost immediately after halftime when he scored off a fumbled kick, but within 15 minutes the Sharks had landed the knockout blows.First through Luke Lewis, and then by James Maloney in the next set to put an end to their premiership defence. Then Maloney scored again, as the tired Cowboys defences missed tackle count reached 37.It just took too much out of us defending in the first half, Thurston said.We just couldnt transition into attack because we were just too zapped. And with it ended their shot at becoming the first team since Brisbane in 1992-93 to win back-to-back premierships in a unified competition. AUSTIN, Texas -- This week, Texas will launch what state officials say is the nations largest effort to track brain injuries among young athletes. Curtis Samuel Ohio State Jersey .The University Interscholastic League, Texas governing body for public high school sports, is partnering with the ODonnell Brain Institute at UT Southwestern Medical Center for the project, from which they hope to gauge whether rules or equipment changes are improving player safety and what more can be done to protect athletes.A state as large as Texas, which has more than 800,000 public high school athletes, would be a key step in developing a national database of brain injuries in youths, officials say. Already, the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is seeking federal funding for such a database.Until we understand what the frequency of concussions is across the state, or a region of the state, we cant determine when rule changes, equipment changes or things like recovery programs are really being effective, said Dr. Munro Cullum, a professor of psychiatry, neurology and neurotherapeutics who will lead the study. All 50 states in recent years have passed rules or laws to address concussions in youth athletics, including research, protocols for identifying concussions, and setting rules for return to play. The CDC has estimated that up to 3.8 million concussions occur in sports and recreational activities each year, but some experts wonder if those numbers underestimate total brain injuries, as some individuals may not seek treatment for mild or moderate symptoms. The Texas program will track about 24 sports, recording what caused an injury, recovery time and other data.Other states have researched head injuries too.In Michigan, which requires schools to report concussions, a recent study showed 755 schools reported 4,452 head injuries in the 2015-16 school year. Football had the most -- 1,907 -- and girls basketball ranked No. 2 with 454.It tracked details such as to whether the injury occurred in practice or a game, whether the athlete had to miss class and how long it took him or her to return to competition. That research is being shared with Michigan States Institute for the Study of Youth Sports. The Texas study will collect more concussion data than it has before, University Interscholastic League deputy director Jamey Harrison said. Currently, only one school from each district is required to report concussions as part of a weekly injury reporting system, though each school in the football playoffs is required to report concussions.Right now its a sample that is just a snapshot. Its not scientific, Harrison said. We need to move beyond that. Santonio Holmes Ohio State Jersey . Still, Brewers manager Ron Roenicke thought taking him out before the fifth inning was an unusual move. The nimble-footed quarterback got his wish, dashing through the snow and a weary defence all the way into the NCAA record book. There are many ways to describe St Kildas chances of playing AFL finals this year.Mathematical, slim and unlikely. Even dubious. But whichever way you cut it, the Saints (10-9) are still a live chance of hauling in North Melbourne (12-7) with three matches remaining and defender Sam Gilbert says thats the main thing. Its out of our control but its good to be spoken about. Hopefully we can continue and give ourselves every opportunity, Gilbert said.North Melbournes difficult draw - they play top four sides Hawthorn, Sydney and Greater Western Sydney in their final three rounds - is giving St Kilda cause for hope.Even if they fall short, its a remarkable turnaround since May when North Melbourne were 9-0 and St Kilda had just earned their third win over easybeats Essendon.Gilbert was clear. The side is hell-bent on reaching the top eight this season if they can, but he could see the merit in a season where they finish just short. As a young group its great for the boys coming through, he said.Tim (Membrey) and Josh (Bruce) played really pivotal roles ... Gresh (Jake Grresham) and (Blake) Acres played really well yesterday. Landry Jones Oklahoma Jersey. Obviously finals is what you play footy for.But we feel like as a club weve developed. Well give ourselves opportunities to make finals next year. The Saints feel like they could do damage if they got to the finals. The 71-point win over Carlton was their third-straight victory at the MCG, on just the third time theyve played there since round three last year.Gilbert said a benefit of jumping up the ladder would be an improved draw in 2017.The Saints didnt feature on Friday nights this season and turned out 10 times on Sundays, and the 29-year-old said he wanted the club to return to the biggest stages next year.To get a Friday night or a Saturday night is the pinnacle of the game so we really look forward to getting those games as a club, he said.Hopefully next years draw we can get a few more Saturdays and Friday nights and we get to thrive on the MCG a few more times.
