The Raptors snapped a two-game losing streak in Wednesdays 107-100 road victory over the New Orleans Pelicans, while the Thunder dispatched the Chicago Bulls on Monday and then bested the Cleveland Cavaliers on Thursday as part of a three-game road swing. Toronto bested the Thunder in Oklahoma City on Dec. 22 to snap a three-game series losing streak. OKC has won two of its last three in Toronto. DeMar DeRozan poured in a game-high 31 points and Kyle Lowry tallied 23 points, eight rebounds and five assists in Wednesdays win over the Pelicans. Amir Johnson added 17 points and nine boards for the Raptors, who have won three of their last five. Tyler Hansbrough chipped in a game-high 13 rebounds and Greivis Vasquez contributed 14 points. "We understand we needed this game, plus we have a long flight back home that we didnt want to sit on this loss with," DeRozan said. The Raptors will get a boost to their lineup this evening, as centre Jonas Valanciunas will return to the lineup as a starter. VANCOUVER -- Kadeisha Buchanan sometimes has to pinch herself. Matt Miazga Jersey UK . The 18-year-old defender with Canadas womens soccer team was always confident in her ability, but she never thought her rise would happen this fast. "I did not expect to come in at such a young age," the Toronto native said this week. "Sometimes when Im in my room I just relax (and think) Im actually here. This is a huge opportunity that Im willing to take and do my best." After scoring her first goal with the national team in a 1-1 draw with the United States last month, Buchanan will get another chance to show off her talents when Canada hosts Germany in another friendly on Wednesday night. And as Canada continues its preparations ahead of hosting next years womens World Cup, Buchanan has fit in seamlessly with the national team after impressing at lower levels. "I dont think its difficult because my teammates just encourage me to bring what I bring to the team," said Buchanan. "Theyre very accepting to what I bring." Canada head coach John Herdman said Buchanan -- who will play at this summers under-20 womens World Cup on home soil -- has impressed him ever since he first saw her at an under-17 camp in 2011. "She was just streets ahead of anything Id seen before," said the Englishman. "We didnt fancy taking her to the (2012) Olympics because she was 15. She probably could have handled it, to be honest. Shes that good." Herdman said Buchanans versatility is what has made her such an effective player in 13 appearances for her country, including 11 starts. "Weve challenged all the senior players to start showing the DNA of a modern centre back, and a modern centre back can play like a midfielder," he said. "They can disguise their passes, they have a range of different types of passes and they can defend. These younger players have been able to do that. Kadeishas never given her shirt back." Canada comes into Wednesdays game at B.C. Place Stadium ranked seventh in the world by FIFA, while the Germans sit No. 2 behind only the Americans. Herdmans team lost 1-0 in Germany last year in game that saw Canada defend well, but fail to get much going offensively. With less than a year until the World Cup, he wants to see more positive play as the team continues to build towards the showcase tournament. "We have to shift forward pretty quickly on how we attack the game. I think thats been a big emphasis over the last couple of days," said Herdman. "Last time we played against Germany we defended well, we hung on for 90 minutes, kept it within one goal. But we definitely didnt threaten them in a way that, if youre going to win a World Cup, you have to. "Im hoping that were a bit more lively. The game might be a bit more open and they might get a few more chances to score because were trying to change a few things in the way we go about how we play. Judge us on the amount of shots, crosses we have in the game and that will give an idea of how weve progressed against Germany." Canadian captain Christine Sinclair said Wednesdays game is crucial as the team looks to see where it stacks up against the worlds best on the field that will host next years final. "This is a huge preparation game for us," said the veteran striker. "Obviously a World Cup venue and were playing the second-ranked team in the world. I dont think many people understand that. They just see the Americans. Germany is a quality side. "Its a completely different test for us." Herdman has tried to implement a more free-flowing system since Canadas bronze-medal performance at the London Olympics two years ago, and despite that 1-1 draw with the U.S. in May, Sinclair said the players still have a ways to go. "I think consistency for us right now is very important. Were coming off a decent result against the Americans," she said. "Its important for us to be able to put together another one against another top side because thats whats going to be expected in the World Cup." While Canada has continued to produce good young talent in defence and midfield, the country still relies heavily on the 31-year-old Sinclair for goal scoring. Herdman said the national team is constantly trying to identify and develop talent in the attacking third, but it has not come easy. "You have to be ready to have a talent system where you have a profile, you know what that profile is and players then develop from the age of 13 on to fit that profile," he said. "I think thats not what weve done in the past. We havent had a very clear profile. "Its going to take time, but with the talent weve got, another (Sinclair) is going to pop up soon." Herdman said he expects Germany to present its usual well-organized defence on Wednesday, adding that his side will have to be clever in attack if its going to defeat the European giants for the first time. "Its got to be a high-tempo, possession game and weve got to have players with the technical capacity to work against that German block," he said. "There isnt a better defensive unit. Theyre physical, they move collectively together on every blade of grass, theyre so hard to break down. Its a huge challenge. "Youre going to see one of the best teams in the world here -- a huge challenge ahead of us." A year out from the World Cup, another huge challenge will be how Canada deals with the pressure that is already starting to mount as tournament hosts. But its something Herdman said both he and the players will relish. "When you come into a job like this, at the end of the day my role is to help these girls fulfil their dreams," said Herdman. "They want to win a World Cup here. I think collectively we all feel a bit of pressure that we dont want to let the country down, but were just going towards it, embracing it. "Its what gets us out of bed in the morning. We look it as our opportunity and not a curse. As soon as it becomes a curse, then you lose sight of why you come to work." Columbus, OH (SportsNetwork. Wilfried Bony Manchester City Jersey .com) - Coming off an upset over a Top-25 foe, the Ohio State Buckeyes set their sights on a second consecutive ranked opponent, as they play host to the 16th-ranked Maryland Terrapins in a Big Ten matchup at Value City Arena on Thursday night. Thad Mattas Buckeyes were in the Top-25 this season, but a couple of league losses dropped the team from the ranks. Ohio State is on an upswing once again however, inching closer to admittance back into the polls, thanks to wins over Northwestern (69-67) and most recently, Indiana (82-70). The win over the Hoosiers this past weekend improved OSU to 16-5 overall and 5-3 in league play, good for a fourth-place tie with Indiana and Purdue. Mark Turgeons Terrapins have certainly acclimated themselves to their new conference, as they are in the midst of a strong campaign that has the team at 18-3 overall and 6-2 in the Big Ten, good for sole possession of second place, behind only Wisconsin (7-1). Maryland has won four of its last five games and comes in off a narrow 68-67 home win over Northwestern last time out. Ohio State owns a 4-2 series advantage against Maryland, with this marking the first-ever meeting as Big Ten rivals. These two teams met last year in Columbus as part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, a game won by Ohio State, 76-60. The Terrapins saved their best for last, as a Dez Wells tip-in with under two seconds left to play propelled Maryland to a one-point win over Northwestern. Maryland, which trailed the entire game until the last 21 seconds, received 27 points from freshman guard Melo Trimble, as the 6-3 youngster was 8-of-18 from the floor and 9-of-10 from the free-throw line in the victory. Wells added 17 points to the cause for Maryland, which won despite shooting a mere .407 from the floor overall. Strong defense has been the fuel that has driven the Maryland bus this season. The Terrapins are averaging a modest 72.5 ppg, but are allowing just 63.0 ppg, while holding foes under 40 percent shooting (.392). Trimble has been superb in his first season in College Park, leading the team in scoring (16.3 ppg), assists (61) and steals (32). Forward Jake Layman (14.3 ppg, 6.9 rpg) represents frontcourt balance, while Wells (13.6 ppg) also has a penchant for scoring. Ohio State has its own dynamic freshman in DAngelo Russell. After erupting for a career-high 33 points against Northwestern, Russell posted 22 points and 10 assists in the upset win over Indiana last time out. For his efforts, he was named the Big Ten Player of the Week. There was plenty of offense to go around in the win over the Hoosiers, as the team shot a sizzling .623 from the floor overall. JaeSean Tate went 9-of-10 from the floor and poured in 20 points, while Marc Loving and Shannon Scott added 12 and 10 points, respectively. Russell is bucking for all-conference honors this season as one of the Big Tens most complete players. The 6-5 youngster ranks second in the conference in scoring (19.4 ppg) thanks in large part to his impressive .444 efficiency from long range. He is also averaging 5.2 rpg and 5.1 apg. Loving is a distant second in the scoring column for Ohio State at 11.3 ppg, followed closely by Sam Thompsons 10.1 ppg. With Russell leading the charge, OSU is averaging a robust 80.0 ppg, on a highly efficient .509 shooting (third nationally). Samir Nasri Manchester City Jersey . The Seattle third baseman had three hits, including a two-run single that sparked a four-run third inning as the Mariners beat the Texas Rangers 6-2 on Tuesday night. A career .256 hitter in four seasons, Seager is hitting .329 against the Rangers. "Ive always seen the ball pretty well here," Seager said. "Its a good park to hit in." Robinson Cano, Dustin Ackley and recent call-up Nick Franklin added two hits each as the Mariners, last in the American League in hitting, had every member of the batting order reach base during the first four innings, That backed the pitching of right-hander Hisashi Iwakuma (3-0), who allowed both runs and six hits through eight innings. Iwakuma had a streak of 17 consecutive scoreless innings end with a home run by Adrian Beltre leading off the second inning that made it 1-0. Seattle has won two consecutive games for the first time since early May. "Hes phenomenal," Seager said of Iwakuma. "Hes got great tempo and seduces ground balls." Iwakuma began the year on the disabled list with a torn tendon in his right middle finger and made his first start on May 3. He threw a season-high 99 pitches on Tuesday night. "Im not obsessed with going nine innings," Iwakuma said through a translator. "I want to go out there and do my part, and I feel like I did my part today." Rangers manager Ron Washingtons take on the Seattle starter was: "Same Iwakuma. Sinking the ball. Cutting the ball. Hitting his spots. Changing speeds. Working fast. Having early contact." Mariners catcher Mike Zunino told manager Lloyd McClendon that he thought Iwakuma was finished after throwing 90 pitches in seven innings. McClendon decided to see what more his starter had, and Iwakuma retired Texas in order in the eighth on nine pitches. &quuot; Were hoping to get him built up," McClendon said. Fabian Delph Jersey. "He ran out of gas again." The loss in the opener of a two-game set means the Rangers have either lost or split six consecutive series. Texas Colby Lewis (3-3) started on seven days rest and allowed five runs on nine hits through six innings, the longest of his seven starts this season. Lewis debuted in the starting rotation in mid-April after missing the previous 21 months following elbow and hip surgeries. Franklin was called up from Triple-A Tacoma to replace Corey Hart, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list after straining his left hamstring on Sunday. Franklin was leading the Pacific Coast League in hitting. A Texas lineup that has yet to feature second baseman Jurickson Profar or catcher Geovany Soto this season because of injury played Tuesday without first baseman Prince Fielder and centerfielder Leonys Martin. The Rangers hoped Fielder would return after sitting out two games because of neck stiffness that was recently attributed to a herniated disk. But after an early batting practice session, Fielder said he wasnt ready to play. Martin was removed from the original lineup because of stiff neck. Cano has reached base in 27 consecutive games, a career high for the five-time All-Star who signed with the Mariners as a free agent following nine seasons with the New York Yankees. NOTES: The Rangers replaced Robbie Ross in the starting rotation with Scott Baker, who will pitch Friday at Detroit. Ross, a first-year starter, was 1-4 with a 4.78 ERA. McClendon said LHP James Paxton (latissimus dorsi) and RHP Taijuan Walker (shoulder) both threw well during game-simulated sessions on Tuesday afternoon. Texas optioned C J.P. Arencibia to Triple-A Round Rock, purchased C Chris Gimenez from Round Rock and moved LHP Martin Perez from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day list. Mario Gotze has insisted he is committed to impressing incoming Bayern Munich manager Carlo Ancelotti, which appears to rule out a move to Liverpool. Manti Teo Notre Dame Jersey . Sky sources revealed in March that Liverpool were interested in a summer move for the Bayern playmaker, with Jurgen Klopp reportedly making him his No 1 summer transfer target. Gotze has plummeted down the Bayern pecking order under Pep Guardiolas reign as manager, with the Spaniard opting to leave the midfielder on the bench for big games, including the Bundesliga clubs crucial Champions League semi-final ties with Atletico Madrid last month.   But, speaking to Bild, the Germany international insisted he was relishing the chance of a fresh start under Ancelotti, who is due to take charge of Bayern in the coming weeks. I look forward to the new season in Munich and will do everything possible to be in top shape for my first training session under Carlo Ancelotti, he said. Jurgen Klopp, pictured hugging Gotze after a Borussia Dortmund match, is a huge admirer of the midfielder The 23-year-old, who has a year left on his contract, had also been linked with a move to Juventus, as well as a return to former club Borussia Dortmund. Meanwhile, it has been revealed that Gotze has parted ways with his agent Volker Struth at SportsTotal after their relationship was made difficult due to Struths criticism of Bayern last year.  Karius at Anfield Mainz goalkeeper Loris Karius in Liverpool ahead of £4.7m move A SportsTotal statement said: After extensive deliberations and discussions in the past few weeks, we have come together to decide that we will terminate the cooperation. Therefore we met for a joint discussion and parted by mutual consent. VANCOUVER -- Daniel Sedin ended his longest pointless skid in a decade with a bang Friday night. He scored a goal and assisted on two by his twin brother Henrik as the Vancouver Canucks thumped the Columbus Blue Jackets 6-2. Daniel Sedins points were his first in seven games and helped the Canucks get their offence going after they suffered from a goal drought during a five-game losing skid. He had not had a similar six-game pointless streak since 2002-03. "Six games feels like forever," said Daniel Sedin. "its about the process, but in the end its about scoring." The Canucks (12-8-4)are fifth in the Pacific Division, while the Blue Jackets (8-12-3) lost for the fifth time in seven outings, good for seventh in the Metropolitan. Vancouvers goal total Friday matched its output during the losing skid. "It does a lot for the confidence for a lot of guys and for the team knowing we can score," said Daniel Sedin. Alex Edler, Zack Kassian, and Jeremy Welsh, with his first career NHL goal, also scored for the Canucks. Matt Calvert -- on the Blue Jackets first shot of the game -- and Artem Anisimov replied for the Blue Jackets. Columbus saw its fortunes change quickly after Daniel Sedin scored with 16 seconds left in the first period. "They scored first. We were pretty upbeat, but the tying goal was key," said Daniel Sedin. "Coming in here (to the dressing room) with a tie instead of being down was huge, especially where we were as a team. From that moment on, I thought we played really well." Kassian, Henrik Sedin and Edler iced the victory in the second by scoring two minutes and 10 seconds apart. Henrik Sedin and Edler scored just 16 seconds apart. "It happened fast," said Columbus coach Todd Richards. "They do a really good job of forcing you and pressuring you, and I think the first period kind of carried over into the second and then they were able to finish, and a couple of quick goals against a good team like that is tough to recover from." During their losing skid, the Canucks were held to one goal in four games and only managed two in the other. "We didnt play a terrible game, but we lost the game in a couple minutes there in the second period," said Columbbus defenceman Jack Johnson. Cheap NFL Jerseys China. In a bid to get more scoring, Canucks coach John Tortorella split up the Sedins at times, and played them together at others. The moves worked as Vancouver outshot Columbus by a wide margin in the first 19 minutes and were finally rewarded with Daniels goal in the closing seconds of the first period. "Its a relief to get a win and to get rewarded with the forechecking that I thought was pretty good tonight," said Tortorella. The Canucks responded well after an embarrassing 3-2 loss to the lowly Florida Panthers three nights earlier. But Tortorella and Henrik Sedin contended that the only difference from recent outings was the fact the puck went in more often. "I dont think we played a whole lot better tonight than we have in the past three games, apart from the Florida game maybe," said Henrik Sedin. "But in the end, we got the goals people are standing and talking about a nice win instead of losing 2-1. Thats a huge difference for us." Canucks goaltender Roberto Luongo only had to make 14 saves as Vancouver outshot Columbus 35-16. "I dont know what to tell you guys," Luongo said about letting in the first shot. "I knew it was going to be that type of game, they are not a team that throws a lot of pucks a the net. Unfortunately they scored right away, so thats even tougher to stay in the game and battle. But we did a good job, We got some goals and it was easier to relax after that." Blue Jackets goalie Sergei Bobrovsky recorded 29 saves in a losing cause, while the Canucks were blanked on five power plays and Columbus was denied on four man-advantage opportunities that generated few chances. "Its nice to win a game where you dont have to go down to the wire and grind one out," said Luongo. Notes: Bobrovsky stopped Jannik Hansen on a penalty shot in the third period after Fedor Tyutin pulled him down on a breakaway. a Both teams entered the game with no players on a scoring streak. a Unproductive Canucks winger David Booth was scratched for the second straight game. a Columbus centre Brandon Dubinsky was sent home due to a foot injury and missed his second consecutive game. The carefully orchestrated build-up to Thursdays official unveiling of Louis van Gaal kicked off in earnest on Monday with the news that Manchester United had signed a 10-year apparel deal with Adidas worth a guaranteed minimum of 750 million pounds (roughly about $1. Mychal Givens USA Jersey .35 billion.) Mind-boggling. More than a mere jersey deal, “a global technical sponsorship and dual-branded licensing deal” was how it was described in a brief statement that was published on the clubs website at 1pm Monday afternoon.  Lunch time in Manchester, but make that 8am in New York City. Since the club began trading on the NYSE in August 2012, it is mandatory practice that, for any announcement which could affect the share price, it is made outside of trading hours. Only 10 per cent of the share capital is listed on the NYSE. The Glazer family privately holds the remaining 90 per cent. Barcelona likes to claim it is more than a club and the same holds true for Manchester United PLC (Public Limited Company.)  As van Gaal set about steering the Netherlands to a third-place finish in Brazil, his new club were announcing they had completely sold out their season ticket allocation for next season- all 55,000 of them. This was the earliest in the summer that Manchester United has sold out of season tickets since Old Trafford was expanded to its current capacity of 76,000 ahead of the 2005-2006 season. In recent seasons, the club has had difficulty selling the entire allocation. Van Gaals appointment would certainly have been an influencing factor and it makes you wonder how many Old Trafford season tickets were purchased in the immediate aftermath of the Netherlands destroying Spain 5-1 back on June 13..   The 62-year old Dutchman began his coaching career back in 1991 with legendary Dutch club Ajax, where he won his only Champions League trophy during the 1994-1995 season, when he also steered Ajax to a domestic league glory during an unbeaten season. Going on to win domestic titles with both Barcelona and Bayern Munich, the closest he came to winning a second European crown was with Bayern ,when they lost in the 2010 final to Jose Mourinhos Inter Milan.  Van Gaal immediately restores a winners mentality and image to a club that was without peer through the Ferguson years - when the Knight of the Realm amassed 38 trophies, including 13 BPL titles, in his quarter of a century at the helm. No one will need reminding of how painful Manchester Uniteds season was under David Moyes last term.  In Moyess defence, it was not ever going to be easy for whomever followed Ferguson. Still, call it the most expensive "gap year" in Uniteds illustrious history. Bereft this season of Champions League football, all the associated pressures and inherent demands that it brings with it will work in Van Gaals favour. If for nothing else, it allows him to focus primarily on returning Manchester United to the BPL summit. Then, you can look to the examples set by two of the Dutchmans previous clubs, Bayern and Barcelona, both of whom sat on the Champions League sidelines for a season. Shortly after their respective returns, both have gone on to dominate the European stage. Where Moyes talked of trying to win the League Cup ahead of a semi-final showdown with Sunderland and where some clubs target Champions League football, at his unveiling, van Gaal was unequivocal in his response to whether he could immediately restore the club to its former glories. "The challenge is always to come first.  Not fourth." The "Iron Tulip," as van Gaal is nicknamed for the so-termed autocratic way he manages, was astute enough yesterday to recognize the commercial demands and the business of Manchester United. As the red and blue halves of Manchester look to continue their three-year duopoly of the BPL title, they are also fierce competitors in the global commercial market. Its not a coincidence that, on the day van Gaal was appointed, Manchester City announced they had signed the Japanese car giant Nissan as their first global partner of the City Football Group. CFG is the holding company which oversees the commercial affairs of the football clubs now under the control of Sheikh Mansour.  Since purchasing City in 2008, Mansour has added New York City FC, Melbourne City and a 20 per cent holding in Japanese club YF Marinos to his expanding portfolio of football clubs. Intriguingly, with Manchester Cit up before the UEFA Financial Fair Play panel where they were fined $90 million and had their Champions League squad for the upcoming season trimmed to 21 players down from 23, Nissan is the new car partner of the UEFA Champions League. In the continual search for overseas revenue, barely 24-hours into the job Van Gaal announced his squad for Uniteds highly lucrative pre-season tour of the US. Having jetted out to Los Angeles earlier on Friday, they will play their first game against the Galaxy at the Rose Bowl next Wednesday, before taking part in the International Champions Cup. Paired in a group with Real Madrid, Inter and Roma, the final takes place in Miami August 4th. Manchester Uniteds potential opponents that day could be their noisy neighbour. Lucic and Smith each had a goal and two assists to help Boston win for the seventh time in its last nine games. Patrice Bergeron, Kevan Miller and Torey Krug also scored for the Bruins. The Islanders got goals from John Tavares and Michael Grabner but had a two- game winning streak snapped. Jaroslav Halak allowed four goals on 32 shots. With just 3.4 seconds to go in the second period, Halak made a crucial mistake handling the puck. Miller knocked down Halaks weak clearing attempt at the blue line, and he wasted no time ripping a shot on goal that beat Halak to break a 2-2 tie. Boston did not even need two minutes in the third period to extend its lead to two. With traffic in front of the net, Krugs wrister from the blue line found its way to the back of the net for his 10th goal of the season. Rask stopped all 14 third-period shots from the Islanders, and Lucics 10th goal of the season on an empty net sealed the win. The Islanders controlled play early, but the Bruins lit the lamp first. Smith drove to the net, and Lucics pass from the boards went bettween a defenders legs to Smiths stick where he redirected the puck past Halak. Adam Jones USA Jersey. . Just two minutes later, Boston got its first power play of the game and cashed in. Bergeron skated down from the blue line with the puck and used nifty puck-handling to create a shooting lane before wristing a shot off the post and into the net. It took a tremendous individual effort from Tavares to finally beat Rask in the second period. From center ice, Tavares chipped the puck in the air toward Rask, and the goalie could not handle it cleanly. Tavares skated through the defense and backhanded the puck in for New Yorks first goal of the game. Grabners fifth goal of the season tied the game later in the period. Johnny Boychuk held a clearing attempt in the zone, and Grabner deflected Boychuks wrist shot past Rask. Game Notes Tavares has scored in four straight games and has four goals and five assists in a five-game point streak ... Boychuks assist was his 100th NHL point ... Islanders defenseman Nick Leddy played in his 300th consecutive game ... New Yorks Frans Nielsen lost his five-game point streak ... Michael Crouse Team Canada Jersey . Dumont, a fifth round draft pick of the Canadiens in 2009, has four assists and 20 penalty minutes in 12 games with the Bulldogs this season. The 23-year-old split last season between Hamilton and Montreal, recording 16 goals and 15 assists in 55 regular season games with the Bulldogs. ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The Minnesota Wild put a lot of work into summer projects the past two years. This time, theyre on track for a little less activity. Some key restricted free agents need new contracts to be retained. Another scorer would be a big help for the forward lines. The goalie situation, of course, remains in flux. Following the franchises deepest advancement in the playoffs in more than a decade, though, there are fewer holes. In 2012, the Wild were the stars of the NHL off-season by signing Zach Parise and Ryan Suter. In 2013, they had to shed several high-salaried veterans to create more space under the cap and on the roster for ready-to-contribute prospects. This time? "I just feel that this year theres not the sense of urgency that we have had in past seasons, that we have to add certain pieces in order to be more competitive," general manager Chuck Fletcher said Monday. He added: "This year I think we can be a little bit more patient." With the draft set for Friday and Saturday in Philadelphia and unrestricted free agency starting three days later, the NHL marketplace is set up for the flurry. "I think youll see a lot of movement this year. Its not a particularly strong free-agent class. I think teams will look to potentially fill their needs via the trade route," Fletcher said. Whether that includes the Wild, well, thats difficult to predict at this point. Fletcher said hes been fielding more calls than hes been making. "We either have players right in their prime that are key contributors on our team, or young players that are just starting their career that were really not that excited about moving. We dont have a lot of players in that 25 to 29-year-old age class that seem to be the prime trade candidates in a lot of cases," Fletcher said. That doesnt mean goalie Niklas Backstrom or centre Kyle Brodziak, for example, wouldnt be dealt if the Wild were to find a partner. Adam Loewen Team Canada Jersey. Backstrom is on track to be ready for training camp Sept. 18 after his latest midsection surgery. He has two more years left on his contract, and Brodziak has one. Dumping some salary would give the Wild more flexibility to pursue a high-priced unrestricted free agent, with Thomas Vanek the primary focus of outside speculation. The former University of Minnesota standout played for three teams in 2013-14, lastly with Montreal. Darcy Kuemper played his way into the starting goalie spot and is one of four restricted free agents the Wild will probably re-sign. Forwards Nino Niederreiter, Justin Fontaine and Jason Zucker are the others. Most of the unrestricted free agents will probably be let go, including goalie Ilya Bryzgalov, forwards Dany Heatley and Matt Moulson. Forward Cody McCormick and defencemen Clayton Stoner and Nate Prosser are also in this category, without any guarantee the Wild would be their highest or favourite bidder. Fletcher declined to speak about any interest or not in any of them specifically. "I think some of those guys will move on at this point. Theyre aware of where were at," Fletcher said. Fletcher traded Cal Clutterbuck for Niederreiter the day of the draft last year. He dealt Brent Burns for Devin Setoguchi and Charlie Coyle on draft day 2011. He acquired Brodziak in that scenario in 2009. This time, the Wild dont have a second-round pick, due to the trade for Moulson, so theyd be less interested in parting with their first-round pick, 18th overall. "Historically we havent been a team thats ever been confused with the Edmonton Oilers circa 83-85," Fletcher said. "If we could add a little bit more offence without sacrificing our defensive structure wed like to do that." WASHINGTON -- The Washington Capitals scored early and late in regulation before turning toward goaltender Braden Holtby, who sealed a satisfying comeback victory. Rafinha Jersey . Holtby had 33 saves, then blanked the Minnesota in a shootout as Washington beat the Wild 3-2 to extend its winning streak to four games. After Holtby helped squelch a Minnesota power play that extended into overtime, Nicklas Backstrom scored the only goal in the shootout to secure the Capitals fourth straight home win. Holtby outplayed Wild goalie Josh Harding, who came in with an NHL-best 1.09 goals-against average and stopped 25 shots. "He made a couple of saves that I was like, Wow, incredible," Backstrom said of Holtby. Alex Ovechkin scored a power-play goal at 8:10 of the first period on Washingtons second shot of the game, and the Capitals didnt beat Harding again until Marcus Johansson forced overtime with a blast from the right circle at 16:52 of the third period. The shot came only minutes after Harding made several outstanding saves with Washington on the power play. "I thought we did a really good job killing that, but it really put us on our heels," Minnesota coach Mike Yeo said. "After that, it seemed like we were hemmed in our end." The Wild had the extra man for the final 57 seconds of regulation and the opening 1:03 of overtime, but could not convert. After two players from each side failed to score in the shootout, Backstrom beat Harding with a wrist shot that went into the upper left corner of the net. Holtby then denied Charlie Coyle to win it. Coyle and Mikael Granlund scored in regulation for the Wild, whose three-game winning streak ended. "The result wasnt there because they got that one (goal) late," Minnesota forward Matt Cooke said. "Its frustrating. You go out and do your part and guys are blocking shots and guys are taking hits to make plays, and the results not there. At the end of the day, its about wins and losses." Granlund put Minnesota up 2-1 at 6:07 of the second period with his second goal of the season. Jason Pominville controlled a rebound on the side of the net and passed to Granlund, who sent a fluttering shot past Holtbys left shoulder. Later in the period, Washington rookie Tom Wilson broke free down the left side. Harding kept his ground and plucked the shot out of the air with his glove. The Capitals came into the game with an NHL-leading 26 goals in the second period, but in this one they went scoreless on nine shots. In the third period, however, Washington got the pivotal goal. "What I liked about the tying goal is it took a lot of hard work," Capitals coach Adam Oates said. "We fought through a lot of frustration because they were giving you nothing. It was hard to get shots to the net." The Wild outshot the Capitals 12-5 in a first period that produced one power-play goal from each team. Less than 20 seconds after Minnesotas Nate Prosser was sent to the penalty box for cross checking, Ovechkin scored from the left circle off a pass from Backstrom at 8:10. It was the third power-play goal in two games for Ovechkin, who needs only four more to break Peter Bondras franchise record of 137. Coyle scored against the leagues most effective penalty-killing unit with just over two minutes left in the period. Zach Parise got an assist on the play to extend his point-scoring streak to four games. Notes: Washington improved to 4-0 in shootouts. ... Minnesota D Keith Ballard was scratched with an upper body injury, and is also expected to miss Saturdays game in Carolina. ... Capitals F Eric Fehr was a healthy scratch for a second straight game. ... This was only the second time in the Wilds seven games in Washington that they scored more than one goal. Neymar Jersey . LINCOLN, Neb. -- New England Patriots cornerback Alfonzo Dennard reported to a Lincoln jail Saturday to begin his 60-day term for a 2012 assault on a police officer. Dennard, 24, reported to the Lancaster County Adult Detention Facility Saturday morning, according to corrections officers with the Lincoln facility who spoke on condition of anonymity because of jail policy. The former Nebraska football standout will have to serve at least 35 days, after credit for good behaviour and the three days hes already spent in jail. In April, a judge sentenced Dennard to two years probation, 30 days in jail and community service for assaulting an officer and resisting arrest outside a Lincoln bar days before he was choseen in the NFL Draft. Oscar Jersey. Dennard had been projected to be a middle-round NFL draft pick, but the Patriots took him in the seventh round. The judge later extended his probation to three years and doubled the jail time after Dennard was again arrested in Lincoln on suspicion of drunken driving in July. That charge was later dismissed in exchange for Dennards no contest plea for refusing to submit to a chemical test. He was fined $500 and placed on probation for that offence. Dennard finished this season, his second in the NFL, with 40 tackles (34 solo, 6 assists) and one interception. The Patriots fell just short of the Super Bowl, losing to the Denver Broncos in the AFC Championship game. LONDON -- Michael Laudrup is taking legal advice after being fired as Swansea manager on Tuesday. Teofilo Gutierrez Jersey . Laudrup revealed Thursday he was notified of his dismissal in "the briefest of letters which gave no reasons why such hasty and final action was deemed necessary." The Dane adds that he is "of course taking legal advice" and the League Managers Association has "already written to the club asking for a proper explanation." Swansea is 12th in the standings but just two points above the relegation zone after picking up only six points from its last 10 matches. Laudrup also said Swansea has banned him from going to the training ground, even to say goodbye to the players. Le Tiss predicts Find out what Le Tiss is predicting for Man City v Arsenal here. Heres a look at which players Le Tiss expects to stay and leave when Guardiola arrives...GOALKEEPERSJoe Hart - Pep will be looking at which players are Champions League standard and Joe Hart certainly meets that criteria. KeepWilly Caballero - I think Pep will want a better back-up that can really push Hart for his starting place. Let goDEFENDERSBacary Sagna - Hes proven this season that hes the best right-back at the club with a really solid campaign. KeepPablo Zabaleta - The Premier Leagues best right-back in his day, but he looks past the peak of his powers, with age and injury problems seeing him lose that yard of pace. Let goVincent Kompany - Theres no doubt Pep will want to keep him but more importantly hell want to find a way to keep him fit. KeepEliaquim Mangala - Once again Pep will be looking at whether his centre-backs are good enough to be in a Champions League winning side and none of their other three meet that criteria. Let go Mangala and Otamendi struggle to contain Jamie Vardy Nicolas Otamendi - The same applies for Otamendi. Hes not proven to be worth the transfer fee they splashed out for him. Let goMartin Demichelis - Hes another one thats on the wrong side of his best years at 35, as we saw with his performance against Manchester United. Let goAleksandar Kolarov - I actually like Citys left-back options, with a good balance of having Kolarov for the games that they can control and where he can get forward. KeepGael Clichy - Clichy has the pace and defensive skill set for him to be trusted in the big games against dangerous wingers. KeepMIDFIELDERSFernando - Hes done alright, nothing spectacular, and I think Pep will keep him as backup and as somebody to bring on to help see games out. KeepFernandinho - Hes similar, not just by name, in that he does a decent job. Carlos Bacca Colombia Jersey. He rarely stands out but doesnt have many bad games either. KeepFabian Delph - I think Pep will probably want to keep two of three three central-midfielders and Delph is perhaps the one hed allow to leave. Let goJesus Navas - Hes not for me. I dont think hes a Pep player either. His end product isnt great as a poor crosser and an absolutely woeful finisher. Let go Jesus Navas scores his only goal since September 2014 Samir Nasri - I think hell get a chance after a long injury. Hes got good quality and has shown glipses of it since returning and is the type of player Guardiola might like. KeepDavid Silva - Hes not been up to his usual standards, struggling to get on the scoresheet this season, but hes still managed double figures in assists. KeepKevin de Bruyne - Hes exactly the sort of player Guardiola will like and will definitely be an important player for him next season. Keep Pick your team Aguero? Ozil? De Bruyne? Pick your Fantasy Six-a-Side team for the chance to win £10,000 FORWARDSRaheem Sterling - I think hell give him a chance but only one season to deliver. If hes as inconsisntent next season then I dont see him being regular, but hes still young enough to improve. KeepSergio Aguero - Hes one of the best in the Premier League so will definitely stay. However, he hasnt managed a single shot on target in his last five Champions League games, which is shocking for a player of his quality, although that is perhaps as much down to his team-mates. Keep Wilfried Bony has four goals in 25 Premier League appearances Wilfied Bony - I think Pep will want a better quality back up striker to push Aguero and Bony hasnt delivered in his chances. Hes not looked the same player as he did at Swansea. Let goKelechi Iheanacho - Ive been impressed with him this season. He hasnt been given loads of chances but when he has hes taken them, with an impressive goals-per-minutes ratio. He scored a couple against Southampton last weekend, although I wasnt sure about his celebrations at 4-2 down! Keep Also See: Wholl make top four? LOUISVILLE, Ky. Eric Dier Jersey UK . -- For Rory McIlroy, the shockingly bad shot came out of nowhere. No worries. By the time he walked off the 18th green, there was little doubt he was still the man to beat at the PGA Championship. McIlroy ripped off four straight birdies on the back side and closed with another at the 18th hole, shooting a 5-under 66 at Valhalla that left him one shot off the lead Thursday. Fridays second round coverage begins with live streaming on TSN.ca at 8:30am et/5:30am pt while TSNs coverage begins at 1pm et/10am pt. Coming off wins at the British Open and Firestone, McIlroy came into the final major of the year as an overwhelming favourite. Even with a major blunder at the 10th, where he knocked his second shot over a fence and took double bogey, he was right on the heels of Lee Westwood, Ryan Palmer and Kevin Chappell. "Im really happy with everything," McIlroy said. "Ive got a good thing going right now. Im trying to ride that momentum as much as I can." Then theres Tiger Woods, who cant seem to get anything going. Playing just four days after his back flared up at Firestone, forcing him to withdraw, Woods proclaimed himself fit but sprayed shots all over the course on the way to a 74 that left him tied for 111th late in the day. "That wasnt very good," said Woods, who made only one birdie -- and had to hole out from the fairway to do that. "A lot of bad shots." One landed in a creek. Another sent the gallery scrambling. Yet another rolled into a fenced-off area where fans can use cellphones, a good 30 yards right of the fairway. Too bad Woods couldnt call for help. "I didnt play as well as I wanted to. I didnt get a putt to the hole," he said. "Thats not a good combo." McIlroy was cruising along when he got to the 10th, having made three birdies on the front side. After putting his tee shot right in the middle of the fairway at the par-5 hole, he yanked the next one out of bounds. A man talking on his cellphone along the fence, not concerned at all with getting in the way, was stunned with he looked up to see a ball sailing over his head. Especially when he learned whose ball it was. "I was really annoyed," McIlroy said. "That second shot at 10 is the worst shot Ive hit in weeks. It came out of the blue." He took a penalty and a drop and missed the fairway with his next attempt as well, resulting in a 7. Still shaken by that miscue, McIlroy made bogey at No. 11 to slip to even on the day. Just like that, he pulled himself together. Four straight birdies pushed McIlroy right back up the leaderboard, and it could have easily been five in a row. A 12-footer slid over the edge of the cup at the 16th. At the final hole, McIlroy reached the green in two for an eagle try to share the lead. If curled off at the end, leaving him with a tap-in -- his eighth birdie of the round. "It could have been better," he said. "But a 66 the first day, thats a solid start." Westwood matched his best round ever at a major, making nine birdies as he carried over the momentum from a closing 63 at Firestone. The 41-year-old Englishman also had a double bogey on his 10th hole of day -- at No. 1, after starting on the back -- but closed with four straight birdies. "The golf course was all there in front of me. I just play it as I see it," said Westwood, who has had numerous close calls but never won a major championship. "Last week, I felt like I turned a corner." Chappell, a 28-year-old Californian in his fourth year on the PGA Tour, turned in a bogey-free round. The final major of the year has produced some unlikely champions -- remember Shaun Micheel? -- and Chappell hopes to be the latest. "I cant complain about being in the lead of any golf tournament," said Chappell, whose only professional win came on the Web.com Tour in 2010. "I just look forward to keeping it rolling." Palmer birdied five of the nine holes on the back side, which is where he started his round. He said the greens were more inviting than he expected. "I was surprised how soft they were," he said. "It was a pretty easy, relaxing nine for me." McIlroy was joined at 65 by Jim Furyk, Henrik Stenson, Edoardo Molinari and Chris Wood. For Furyk, it was another strong start in a tournament he nearly won a year ago. He took a lead to the final day at Oak Hill, only to lose to Jason Dufner by two strokes. Dufners title defence lasted only 10 holes. Plagued by a sore neck, he withdrew after a triple-bogey left his score at 8 over, probably ending his Ryder Cup hopes as well. He came in ranked No. 8 in the standings and hoping to somehow play well enough to stay in one of the nine qualifying spots. "I tried to do what I could to be able to compete some and give it a go," Dufner said, "but it is just pointless."
