DUBAI -- Two years to the day after gaining his European Tour card, Matt
Fitzpatrick won the DP World Tour Championship in dramatic fashion as Open
champion Henrik Stenson clinched the Race to Dubai title.
Cheap Roshe
Run .Tyrrell Hatton looked set to claim his second victory in the
space of seven weeks after holing a bunker shot for par on the 17th to preserve
a one-shot lead at Jumeirah Golf Estates. However, the 25-year-old then drove
into the creek which runs the length of the par-five 18th and carded his only
bogey of a closing 68 to open the door for Fitzpatrick in the group behind. The
22-year-old from Sheffield needed par to force a play-off or a birdie to win and
duly got up and down from a greenside bunker to complete a 67 and claim the
first prize of more than £1 million. It means the world, the Ryder Cup player
said after becoming the youngest Englishman to win three times on the European
Tour, eclipsing the record of six-time major winner Sir Nick Faldo. To win one of
these Final Series events is really special. Words cant describe it. Its not
going to sink in for a while. Its been a special year and then to end it like
this with a win is amazing. Its two years to the day I got my card at the
qualifying school. When you think about it, its crazy. Its all happened so fast.
Now I feel this win gives me the confidence to push further and further and see
what we can do next season.Hatton, who won the Dunhill Links Championship last
month, admitted losing out in such a manner was a bitter pill to swallow but
added: For me its been the best year of my life so I cant get too downbeat. Im
sure hopefully in the future Ill take my next chance. If you told me at the start
of the year I would finish fourth in the Race to Dubai I would have been
surprised. Its been such a great year and Im very happy with that.South Africas
Charl Schwartzel finished alone in third, with overnight leader Victor
Dubuisson, Francesco Molinari, Soren Kjeldsen, Nicolas Colsaerts and Bernd
Wiesberger tied fourth.Stensons share of ninth was more than enough to make
certain of ending the year as European number one, the Swede carding a closing
65 which was matched by playing partner and defending champion Rory
McIlroy.Masters champion Danny Willett, who started the week 299,675 points
behind Stenson, tied for 50th in the 60-man field after a closing 70. Swedens
Alexander Noren, who was the other player capable of ending the season on top of
the money list, was joint 23rd.Im very pleased to get my name on this trophy
once again, said Stenson, who was the first man to win the Race to Dubai and
FedEx Cup in the same season in 2013.Its been a great year, the best year of my
career.Ive always thought it was going to be hard to top 2013, but I think Ive
done that. Maybe not to the level of golf over six months, but certainly with
the highlights of winning the Open, the Olympic [silver medal] and managing to
win the Race to Dubai again.McIlroy was left to rue an opening 75, his only
over-par score in the tournaments history, as he missed out on a fourth win of
the season. If I had just shot something around level par, one under, I would
have been right in the tournament, the world number two said. But these things
happen and I played well for the remaining three days and at least redeemed
myself a little bit.Willett had to settle for second in the money list for the
second year running after struggling to rediscover top form following a winless
Ryder Cup debut at Hazeltine. Its a disappointing four-week stretch that Ive just
had, to end what still will be a pretty memorable year, he said. The golfs just
not been good enough this last two months, maybe playing too much and trying to
force the issue instead of just playing a limited amount and backing yourself to
do well in the ones that you play in.I think the body and mind need a bit of a
rest and hopefully I can come out fresh around a golf course that I quite like
at Hong Kong [in December] and then have a good four or five-week break over
Christmas.

goalie survived those perilous gymnastics with no problem, and he eventually

Halifax beat the Saint John Sea Dogs 7-5 on the strength of two goals apiece
from Nikolaj Ehlers, Matt Murphy and Brent Andrews. Jonathan Drouin also scored
and had three assists while Zachary Fucale made 17 saves for the Mooseheads
(16-8-0), who led 6-1 after two periods. CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- JaQuan Newton
shook off his first half shooting woes and helped lead Miami to another
early-season win.Newton scored 16 of his game-high 18 points in the second half
as the Hurricanes defeated Penn, 74-62, on Saturday afternoon. My approach was
the same way as the first half, Newton said. Unfortunately, I wasnt making any
shots in the first half. I just wanted to take better shots in the second half,
open shots to get me going. After shooting 1 of 8 from the field in the first
half, Newton converted five of his eight attempts and five-of-six free throws in
the second half. The Hurricanes (3-0) were never threatened after a 16-3 run
midway through the second half. Consecutive 3-pointers from D.J. Valsijevic and
Bruce Brown capped the surge and increased Miamis lead to 59-38 with 10:28
remaining in the half. That was definitely the tale of two halves, Miami coach
Jim Larranaga said. In the first half we were challenging the defense rather
than attacking and sharing the ball. I tried to explain to the team at halftime
we werent finding the open man.Brown finished with 15 points and Davon Reed,
Valsijevic and Dewan Huell scored 11 points each for the Hurricanes, who
experienced their first deficit of the season when the Quakers ran off eight
unanswered points for an 8-4 lead early in the game. Miami opened the season
with lopsided victories over Western Carolina and North Florida. It was good for
us, Larranaga said of Penns early lead. It was a good challenge -- a very
different kind of team. You can see how they move on offense. They really share
the ball.Playing a team like that is very different than playing the teams weve
played so far and even some of the teams were going to play a little later on in
the season.A.J. Brodeur scored 16 points to lead the Quakers (1-1). Caleb Wood
shot 4-of-5 from the field and was Pennns second double figure scorer with 11
points.dddddddddddd.I liked how we competed, particularly in the first half,
Penn coach Steve Donahue said. We got very casual during that stretch with the
ball that they made that big run put it up by 20. But besides that I thought we
competed.STARTER SIDELINED: Miami sophomore center Ebuka Izundu sat out
Saturdays game because of a sprain to his lower left extremity he suffered in
Miamis victory over North Florida on Wednesday. Larranaga said he will know
better on Izundus status Monday.ROOKIE CONTRIBUTIONS: Huell and Valsijevic
continue to contribute offensively. The freshmen have scored in double figures
in Miamis first three games.BIG PICTUREMiami: junior guard Rashad Muhammad
served the final game of his three-game suspension because of a violation of
team rules. Muhammad played his first two seasons at San Jose State and sat out
the 2015-16 season in compliance with transfer rules.Penn: the Quakers are 65-95
all-time against ACC schools. Saturdays game was Penns first against a school
from the conference since its 85-55 loss against Duke on January 1, 2012. The
Quakers last victory against an ACC opponent was their 79-74 victory over
Georgia Tech November 19, 2001.UP NEXTMiami: the Hurricanes will face Stanford
in the first round of the AdvoCare Invitational Thanksgiving Day in Orlando.
Tip-off is at 2:30 p.m. Miami and Stanford previously met in the 2015 NIT
Championship, which the Cardinal won, 66-64, in overtime.Penn: the Quakers
continue their heavy early-season road schedule against Central Connecticut
State Tuesday night. Penns first four games are on the road before their home
opener against defending national champion Villanova Nov. 29 at the Palestra.
