HOUSTON -- The Boston Red Sox keep finding ways to come back. Bobby Hebert Authentic Jersey . A night after rallying from a five-run deficit to win, the Red Sox overcame a three-run deficit Wednesday, using Stephen Drews three-run homer in the ninth to beat the Houston Astros 7-5. It was the sixth time in its last seven victories that Boston has come from behind to win. "This team has done it all year," Drew said. "Everybody has fun, but everybody knows their role. I think that makes it easier on guys. Everybody has been clutch in late innings. That is what good teams do." The home run was Drews first go-ahead homer in the ninth inning or later since 2008. Drew, who came off the disabled list on July 20, also hit a game-ending single to beat Seattle on July 31. "He was starting to get in the flow of things once he came back and got some at-bats under his belt after the DL stint after the All-Star break," Boston manager John Farrell said. "To have that kind of bat at shortstop down in the bottom third of the order, it lengthen things out. Hes swinging with a lot of confidence right now against both lefties and righties." David Ortiz had four hits and Jonny Gomes also hit a home run for the Red Sox, who have won seven of their last nine games. Robbie Grossman had two hits, including a homer, and Jason Castro added two hits for the Astros, who have dropped six of seven and are a major league-worst 37-76. Ortiz led off the ninth with a single and pinch-runner Drake Britton moved to second on Gomes one-out walk before Drews home run to right, his ninth of the season, off Josh Fields (1-2). "I got ahead of him," Fields said. "I threw a pretty good changeup and tried to come back with a breaking ball and left it up. Shouldve buried it down a bit more and it sort of just came out of my hand, and he put a good swing on it." Houstons bullpen has 18 blown saves this season. "Its one of those things where you sit there and ask yourself, Could we do something different?" Houston manager Bo Porter said. "You put guys in situations where you feel they have the best opportunity to be successful, and tonight is another example of us just not getting it done." Junichi Tazawa (5-3) threw two scoreless innings for the win. Koji Uehara pitched the ninth for his 11th save. Grossman tied it at 2 in the third with a two-run shot to right. He extended his hitting streak to 10 games with his third home run of the season and second in two games. Jose Altuve gave the Astros their first lead of the night in the sixth at 3-2 with a run-scoring single off a diving Brock Holts glove, scoring Grossman, who had led off the inning with a double and moved to third on a wild pitch. Altuve scored on Castros double down the right-field line, sliding in ahead of Jarrod Saltalamacchias tag at the plate. Castro, who had moved to third on the throw home, scored on Marc Krauss sacrifice fly to make it 5-2. Houston got out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the sixth, as Wesley Wright stuck out Jacoby Ellsbury before Josh Zeid struck out Shane Victorino on a checked swing to end the inning. But Gomes started the comeback with a two-run home run in the seventh off Zeid. Victorino was ejected by third base umpire Brian Knight with one out in the seventh after running out of the dugout to argue a call. Victorino refused comment after the game. Ryan Dempster allowed five runs and seven hits while striking out seven over six innings. Dempster has allowed 12 runs in 12 innings over his last two starts. "Just a few pitches ended up being a two-run home run and a big double," Dempster said. "I threw a lot of really good, quality pitches tonight. Thats probably the best Ive felt in a while. Unfortunately, I did not have much to show for it, but we got a win, so thats the most important thing." Holt gave the Red Sox a 1-0 lead in the second on a groundout, scoring Gomes. L.J. Hoes kept the Red Sox from scoring more, making a diving catch on Ellsburys drive on the warning track to end the inning. Jarred Cosart had his fourth straight no-decision after allowing two runs and seven hits with five walks and three strikeouts in five-plus innings. Porter was ejected in the ninth by home plate umpire Mark Carlson for arguing a foul tip third strike call. NOTES: Houston selected the contract of RHP Jorge De Leon from Triple-A Oklahoma City and optioned RHP Jose Cisnero there on Wednesday. The 25-year-old De Leon has not allowed a run in five relief outings over 7 1-3 innings for Oklahoma City. ... Houston DH Chris Carter had a second straight game off on Wednesday. Porter said he wanted to give Carter some time to work in the cage and try to figure out a way to get back on track after hitting .107 over his last 10 games. Porter said Carter will be back in the lineup on Friday. ... Houston SS Jonathan Villar sat out on Wednesday with a sprained left thumb. Porter said hell have an MRI on Wednesday and he would know more about his availability after that. John Lucas, signed as a mentor for rookie Trey Burke, showed he can score if required, scoring 12 points of his 16 points in the second quarter as Utah built an 18-point lead. A year ago, Portland State became just the third program in FCS history to defeat two FBS opponents in a single season.Following a disastrous performance in its first such matchup of 2016, an 0-2 record against the higher division is looking likely with Saturday nights visit to Washington, the eighth-ranked team in the FBS.The Vikings were the darlings of the FCS in 2015, knocking off Washington State and North Texas and finished second in the Big Sky after being picked to go 12th in the 13-team conference. They earned the schools first playoff appearance since 2000 and interim coach Bruce Barnum was rewarded with a five-year extension on his way to being named the Big Sky and STATS FCS Coach of the Year. While Barnums team may have been overlooked at times last season, it is no longer sneaking up on anyone. It was picked by the Big Sky coaches to finish second in the league and was ranked 17th in the STATS FCS preseason poll. The 2016 season is only two games old, but 19th-ranked Portland State has hardly looked like one of the upper-echelon teams of the FCS.Opening against Division II Central Washington, the Vikings were penalized 10 times and trailed by five points after three quarters before scoring three touchdowns to pull away for a 43-26 win.Last weekend in a matchup with a San Jose State team that opened with a 35-point loss to Tulsa, Portland State turned the ball over six times in a 66-35 setback. Defense was the calling card for Barnums team in 2015, but it was run over for 642 yards -- including 409 on the ground -- in surrendering its most points since a 69-0 loss to Oregon in 2010.The road only gets tougher with its first matchup against a top-10 FBS team since that drubbing by the Ducks six years ago.We go into these games expecting to win, and we did last year, twice, Barnum said of facing FBS teams. The odds are against you in these money games, but we have the attitude of not losing the game before we get there. Well show up, we will fight, I can guarantee you that. There wont be any quit in us.Washington has enjoyed moderate success over the past few years but entered 2016 ranked in the AP preseason poll for the first time since 2003. Two game in and it is living up to preseason hype, leading Rutgers by 45 in a 48-13 win in the opener and scoring the first 42 points in last weeks 59-14 victory over Idaho. The Huskiess have certainly made a believer out of Barnum, who has said they are a national title contender. Michael Thomas Jersey. .If I was in front of the tote board, Id mortgage my house, he said, and put it on the Huskies. The programs first Pac-12 title since 2000 is on the minds of Huskie fans and sophomore quarterback Jake Browning is a big reason why.Browning tied the school record with five touchdown passes last week to give him eight on the season to just one interception. His 74.5 completion percentage is fourth-best in the FBS among those with at least 50 attempts and his average of 10.6 yards per attempt ranks sixth. He now gets to take on defense that is struggling against the pass. The Vikings were 12th in the FCS in opponent passer rating last season, intercepting 18 passes. Theyve yet to pick off a pass this year and have the FCS 12th-worst opponent QB rating. While the defense is off to a slow start, Portland States rushing attack hasnt missed a beat from last season. The Vikings rank in the top 20 in the FCS in run yards (244 per game) and average (5.4), with dual-threat quarterback Alex Kuresa and seniors Paris Penn and Nate Tago all rushing for at least 150 yards. Penn is averaging 8.6 per attempt and Kuresa has already amassed 587 total yards with five touchdowns.Portland States quarterback is the best runner weve seen yet. Hes hard to tackle, said Washington coach Chris Petersen, who played quarterback at Portland State from 1993-94. Portland State does a great job with their offense. Its a really good scheme, theyre playing to their strengths and their quarterback really makes some things happen.Kuresa, however, didnt have one of his better performances last week, throwing a career-high three interceptions. It didnt help that senior Darnell Adams, Portland States leading receiver of 2015, was injured on the first offensive play and is unlikely to play this week.Safety Walter Santiago, a senior captain, was also injured on the defenses first play and is done for the year.In its only other meeting with Washington in 2012, Portland State trailed 45-0 at halftime and went on to lose 52-13.The Huskies, very fast football team, Barnum said. Theyre ranked eighth, were ranked 19th, so, you know, we should be in it.
