MONTREAL -- Geroy Simon is the CFLs all-time receptions king. But the Saskatchewan Roughriders slotback was in no mood to celebrate after his team lost a fourth game in a row on Sunday. Simon made the 1,018th catch of his 15-year career when he hauled in a seven-yard pass from Darian Durant nearly 10 minutes into the first quarter of the Roughriders 17-12 loss to the Montreal Alouettes. "Its tough to put it into words after a fourth loss in a row," a dejected Simon said. "It means a lot, but it will mean a lot more in a while. "Im not about individual accolades. Im about winning and right now were not doing a good job." The 38-year-old had three catches on the day to give him 1,020. Simon set the historic mark in the same place, Percival Molson Stadium, where the man whose record he broke made many of his grabs -- former Alouette Ben Cahoon. Cahoon, who played 13 seasons, all with Montreal, set the record when he passed Terry Vaughns 1,006 receptions on Oct. 11, 2010, and added 11 more in the regular season. He retired after winning the Grey Cup that season. Simon did not celebrate on the field. His catch was short of a first down. He just went to the bench and sat down, to polite applause from the crowd of 24,106. "Congratulations to Geroy Simon: a superb talent, valued teammate, consummate professional and now, one of the all-time greats," said CFL commissioner Mark Cohon in a statement. The veteran receiver will be honoured in a special pre-game ceremony at the next Roughriders home game on Oct. 12. It was Simons preference not to have an in-game ceremony. A scoreboard message was played from Cahoon congratulating Simon. "It represents tens of thousands of frequent flyer miles and hundreds of dollars buying all those quarterbacks dinner so theyll get you ball," said Cahoon. "Congratulations Geroy, you earned every one of those balls." Simon appreciated the gesture from the Alouettes and Cahoon, but wanted to focus on winning the game. "Ive been friends with Ben for a long time, before we ever got to this league," said Simon. "Hes a first class guy. "I didnt want them to stop the game or anything like that. I just wanted to play good football. Ben sent me a message last night and I appreciate that. Hes been a great player in this league." Simon broke in with Winnipeg in 1999, but rose to stardom after joining the B.C. Lions in 2001. The Johnstown, Pa., native moved to Saskatchewan this season. Last season, he became the CFLs all-time leader in reception yards. His 47 yards Sunday gave him 16,188 in his career. Neymar curled home a free kick from just outside the area to put the 2014 World Cup host ahead in the 44th minute. Three minutes after the break, a simple through pass from Paulinho freed Oscar and the Chelsea star rounded goalkeeper Jung Sung-ryong to extend Brazils lead. The Indians are roaring toward October. Giambi belted a two-run, pinch-hit homer with two outs in the ninth inning to give Cleveland a shocking 5-4 win over the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday night, keeping the Indians up with the lead pack in the AL wild-card race. MORITZ, Switzerland -- Fog prevented downhill racers from getting their Olympic dress rehearsal.ROME -- Gervinho scored a late winner as Roma beat league leader Juventus 1-0 in the Italian Cup quarterfinals on Tuesday. The Ivory Coast forward acrobatically finished Kevin Strootmans cross after a well-worked move with substitute Miralem Pjanic to line up a two-legged semifinal with either Napoli or Lazio. It was a match between the top two sides in Serie A. Roma lost 3-0 in the league to Juventus earlier this month to slip eight points behind the two-time reigning league champion. "It was a win we wanted at all costs," Roma captain Francesco Totti said. "Today we showed that we are at the same level as a great Juve side. "For me, theres not all this distance between us and them. But its normal that everyone looks at the current table. Were doing really well, but theyre going beyond the limits." It was also a matchup between the two clubs which have won competition the most times, with both boasting nine Italian Cup victories. Roma, which lost last years final to bitter rival Lazio, started well and had two good opportunities inside the opening 11 minutes but first new signing Radja Nainggolan and then Alessandro Florenzi fired wide. Juventus players and staff called fuuriously for a red card for Mehdi Benatia when he dragged down Sebastian Giovinco as the forward was attempting to race onto Andrea Pirlos long ball.dddddddddddd. However, Benatia escaped with a booking. The home side went close to taking the lead 10 minutes from halftime when Maicon rolled a tantalizing ball across goal and past Juventus goalkeeper Marco Storari -- but there was no Roma player on hand to tap it in. Juventus had the ball in the back of the net in the opening minute of the second half but Federico Pelusos header was ruled out as Mauricio Islas cross had already gone out of play. "Maybe we were a bit too timid in the first half but I dont remember us suffering particularly," Juventus coach Antonio Conte said. "They scored when they had a good chance, while when it happened to us they ruled out the goal." Conte clearly felt the refereeing decisions had not gone Juves way, starting with Islas cross. "The ball seemed in to me," he said. "Also Benatias foul on Giovinco was that of the last man but we accept the referees decision. Its disappointing to be knocked out of a competition, but I dont have anything to reproach the lads for."
