PARIS -- Paris Saint-Germain dug deep to come back from two goals down and draw
2-2 at Saint-Etienne on Sunday, extending its unbeaten record to 30 games and
staying ahead of Monaco on goal difference at the top of the French league.
Michael Irvin Cowboys Jersey . After Edinson
Cavani had pulled a goal back for PSG, midfielder Blaise Matuidi scored a
fortuitous goal deep into injury time as PSG took advantage of playing with an
extra man for most of the second half after Saint-Etienne midfielder Fabien
Lemoine was sent off. "It was a difficult night for us, it was an intense game,"
PSG coach Laurent Blanc said. "Saint-Etienne are really good at home and they
dont let you breathe." Saint-Etienne rocked PSG as it played without fear and
took the game to Blancs side. Last season, Saint-Etienne won away to PSG, drew
at home and knocked PSG out of the League Cup quarterfinals, and it looked in
complete control after goals from wingers Benjamin Corgnet and Romain Hamouma.
"I think we were too average to get the three points and Saint-Etienne deserved
at least a point," Blanc said. But after Lemoines red card in the 58th minute,
Cavani turned in Maxwells cross from the left 10 minutes later for his seventh
goal of the season and then Matuidis lofted pass beat goalkeeper Stephane
Ruffier after bouncing in front of him with Cavani almost getting the final
touch. "I am proud of my players, but I feel disappointed for them because we
gave everything and we caved in with a player less," Saint-Etienne coach
Christophe Galtier said. "Its a shame, but the crowd can be proud of them."
Earlier, Monaco beat Lyon 2-1 thanks to Radamel Falcaos eighth goal of the
season and Mounir Obbadis first. PSG spent most of the first half on the back
foot as Corgnet went close with a shot from 25 metres and then scored in the
18th minute following a bad error from PSG centre half Marquinhos. The Brazilian
was far too casual as he cleared the ball and hit it straight to Hamouma. He
then teed up Corgnet just inside the penalty area and his first-time shot flew
past PSG goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu and into the top right corner. Brazilian
striker Brandao went close to doubling Saint-Etiennes lead but dragged his shot
just wide of the post in the 29th, and midfielder Loic Perrin headed wide from a
corner for a dominant home side. The second goal came in the 51st when Sirigu
came out to claim a cross and fumbled the ball as centre half Alex jumped up at
the same time as him. The loose ball fell to Marquinhos, but his terrible
clearance bounced off Thiago Mottas leg and fell to Hamouma, who clipped it into
the net. "If you dont play well against teams like this youre in trouble and
thats what happened," Blanc said. "We made two huge errors in defence and we
were punished." PSG was thrown a lifeline when Lemoine got a second yellow card
for a foul on Ezequiel Lavezzi. Lemoine, with blood pouring from his face
following the challenge, had to be restrained and then dragged away by
Saint-Etiennes staff as he furiously contested the decision. "We deserved the
win, but we have to keep this attitude if we want to do well this season,"
Hamouma said. "The red card changed everything." It became increasingly hard for
Saint-Etienne to hold out and Cavanis goal set up a frantic finale. "We showed
that we have character and heart and were still unbeaten," Matuidi said. "But we
came up against a great Saint-Etienne side and a great crowd. We lost games like
this last season but this time we came back to 2-2." Earlier, Obbadi gave Monaco
the lead with a powerful half-volley into the top right corner. Falcao added a
another goal in the first half with a clinical finish before striker Bafetimbi
Gomis pulled a goal back for Lyon after the break. Falcao had not scored in his
previous three league games but put an end to his mini-slump in fine style. A
long pass from defence deflected off the back of midfielder Joao Moutinho and
fell to Falcao. He sprinted into the penalty area down the right, beat the left
back for pace and expertly chipped the ball over Lopes as he charged off his
line. "Falcao works hard for the team, he closes down, he holds the ball up,"
Monaco coach Claudio Ranieri said. "Everyone should try and play for him more."
Also, Cheick Dibate and Ludovic Obraniak scored late goals as Bordeaux beat
10-man Montpellier 2-0.

.J. -- Pitcher Carl Pavano is retiring after 14 major league seasons.OAKLAND,
Calif. -- The taxing preseason, which included two games in China, is finally
over. Whether the Golden State Warriors are ready to live up to lofty
expectations remains unclear. Damian Lillard scored 21 points, LaMarcus Aldridge
added 16 points and 12 rebounds, and the Portland Trail Blazers rallied to beat
the Warriors 90-74 Thursday night in the preseason finale for both teams. "There
are certain teams with different mentalities and agendas going into the
preseason. Some teams, we were there once, its important to win ball games,"
Warriors coach Mark Jackson said. "For some teams its important to stay healthy.
Some teams you just want to establish a rhythm. I think the two latter ones were
us. The danger is you cant believe you can turn it on when you want to." The
Warriors will carry that message into the regular-season opener against the Los
Angeles Lakers on Wednesday night. Golden State led by 11 early in the third
quarter before the Blazers scored 22 straight points. The Warriors missed 17
shots in a row and were held scoreless for more than 8 minutes during Portlands
run. Stephen Curry had 17 points and six assists, and Klay Thompson scored 16
points for the Warriors, who blew a double-digit lead for the second straight
game. Golden State lost 91-90 at Sacramento on Wednesday night after leading by
17 points in the third quarter. "Thats going to be our Achilles heel. When were
not making shots, how do we defend? Whats our personality going to be?" said new
addition Andre Iguodala, who had nine points, four rebounds and two assists. The
Warriors ended the preseason 3-4, including wins against the Lakers in Beijing
and Shanghai. Portland won its final five games to finish the preseason 5-2.
"Just as we ignored the predictions last year that we werent going to make the
playoffs," forward David Lee said, "were not going to let the positive outlook
change the way we work." Jackson said he feels satisfied with the way the
preseason ended because the Warriors emerged "relatively healthy." The
third-year coach still never really got the chance to experiment with lineups in
the exhibitions like he had hoped. Small forward Harrison Barnes missed the last
four games with left foot inflammation.
Robert Newhouse Jersey. His status for the
regular-season opener is murky. Lee also sat out Thursday after undergoing
dental work on his two front teeth, which were loosed by an inadvertent elbow
from Jason Thompson in the loss at Sacramento. Lee is not expected to miss any
time. Adding to the concerns, Nemanja Nedovic -- drafted 30th overall out of
Serbia -- landed hard on his left wrist and lower back after Mo Williams fouled
him on a layup attempt in the fourth quarter. Officials called a flagrant foul
but downgraded it to a common foul after a video review. The Warriors have less
than a week to rest up and regroup -- not to mention sort out the rotation. With
the addition of Iguodala, the question remains: Who will come off the bench? All
five starters -- Curry, Thompson, Barnes, Lee and Andrew Bogut -- are back from
a team that won 47 games last season before beating the Denver Nuggets in the
first round of the playoffs and losing to the eventual Western Conference
champion San Antonio Spurs in six games. Either Barnes or Thompson will come off
the bench. Jackson is still trying to find the right combination, especially
after wasting leads in consecutive losses, albeit in the preseason. "It is
somewhat of a concern, but not overly concerned," Jackson said. "I think that
second unit, probably in a normal game, someone will be in there as a calming
effect -- not just a scorer, but a guy that could get us good looks. With that
being said, leaving a starter in the game to take some of the pressure off would
be ideal." Thompson started his third straight game in the preseason finale,
which is usually more of a showcase for unproven players than the regulars,
though neither coach treated it that way. Second-year Blazers coach Terry Stotts
mixed up his backcourt rotation throughout, but leaned on Lillard when it
mattered most. The reigning NBA Rookie of the Year and Oakland native started
the Blazers big run with a 3-pointer. He made another from beyond the arc to put
Portland up 76-59 early in the fourth. Wesley Matthews (irregular heartbeat),
C.J. McCollum (fractured left foot) and former California guard Allen Crabbe
(stomach flu) all sat out for the Blazers.
