Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh expects his team to compete every day. Wilton Speight struggled in Saturday's spring game, but the incumbent still has the lead over Brandon Peters and John O'Korn as the team nears the end of spring practice. "It'll always be (a competition,)" Harbaugh said Wednesday at the Horatio Williams Charley Taylor Womens Jersey Foundation in Detroit, where and his staff ran a clinic for Detroit high school coaches. "Still over the course of the whole spring practice, Wilton on our depth chart, he's No. 1. But it's a meritocracy. By your effort and by your talent you will be known. That's a good thing for our football team." The team is headed to Rome, Italy, at the end of this week, but the practices there will be severely scaled back from the four-hour outings here in Michigan. Harbaugh plans 1 1/2-hour outings during the final three days of the trip. The quarterback competition will spill into the fall. "We get it in camp and we go through camp, somebody that stands out and it's undeniable, that's what we're looking for, there's that one guy," he said. "Probably eight, nine, 10 practices, that's probably the range where you make up your http://www.authenticnikeredskinshop.com/darrell-green-jersey-for-sale-c-7.html mind on something like that. It's always going to be that meritocracy." Harbaugh has spoken highly of Speight, who started 12 of 13 games last year, only missing one due to injury. Harbaugh said he expected Speight to be one of the nation's best quarterbacks at the U-M football bust, the team's annual awards banquet. But he was very impressed with the command of Peters, who completed 9 of 17 passes for 160 yards and a touchdown in the spring game. Peters also rushed for a TD and orchestrated the game-winning drive for the Maize in the exhibition. “I thought he did extremely well,” Harbaugh said. “I think this gives him Authentic Bob Feller Womens Jersey confidence, should anyway, the way he performed, and just really asserted himself as the leader, as the quarterback.” Harbaugh said O’Korn is the most assertive of all the quarterbacks in the spring. “Somebody that just has to win in practice in the spring game, in practice, in drills, that’s what the team wants from their quarterback,” Harbaugh said. “Somebody that leads the team, is assertive, is decisive, so all that is still generating right now. But the quarterback that will do anything for his teammates to help win a ballgame I’m looking for that. That’s an area where Brandon is in the process of growing to. “I think we’ve got three good guys and they’ll be battling for that position.” Harbaugh said the ankle injuries to receiver Eddie McDoom and http://www.officialindianstore.com/Corey_Kluber_Jersey offensive lineman Jon Runyan suffered in the spring game are not serious, “nothing broken, not long-term.”… He updated the Italy plans, noting that a number of players, including McDoom, are choosing not to go. Receiver Drake Harris is among them but his situation is he has a final too late, on April 26, to play catch-up just for a few days. He said 99 players are scheduled to go… None of the players who sat out injured on Saturday have injuries that will affect their status in the fall. When speaking to the coaches, Harbaugh noted that quarterback Alex Malzone had an ankle injury that kept him out all spring and offensive lineman JaRaymond Hall had an elbow problem.
